Hello! Welcome to Wikivoyage. If you want to specialize your experience you may want to consider editing your preferences. Please take a second to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you're new to the whole wiki community look at the Wiki markup to get an idea of how to use the wiki markup. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.--(WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 22:35, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Great work on Hamamatsu, keep it up! (WT-en) Jpatokal 00:01, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Images

[edit]

I just wanted to point out our image policy to you and I'd really appreciate it if you would upload your images to Wikivoyage Shared so that your images can be used by all language versions of Wikivoyage. Please keep in mind that you must provide information about the license of the image you are uploading and that you must be the owner and author of the image. Here is a copy of the default license. Thanks. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:29, 30 July 2006 (EDT)

  • Obviously I'm new here. I'll get on that soon! Don't worry though, they are all my own photos.
Great. Are they released under CC-by-SA 1.0? If you say yes that will cover everything I brought up and I'll move your images to the appropriate version. By the way, to sign your signature all you have to do is type ~~~~ and your signature will appear automagically like this: -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 12:43, 30 July 2006 (EDT)
  • Yes, I'll use the default license for all the pictures so far. Thanks so much for your help! (WT-en) Texugo 22:33, 30 July 2006 (EDT)
Is there some special reason for moving some pictures from the left to the right in the segment on Vaasa? I was about to add more and making the layout such that it suits the whole page, when my just added picture got moved by you. (WT-en) Christian B 02:07, 1 August 2007 (EDT)
  • How can someone remove an image they personally have added? I uploaded the wrong image for something.

Brazil - Thanks

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Brazilian destinations! (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 22:17, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

ES IsIn

[edit]

I tinkered with the isIn on es and it should work now. I've tested it on es:Flordia and it worked perfectly fine. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 03:11, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

Great. Thanks so much! (WT-en) Texugo 05:45, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

RO IsIn

[edit]

The isin for the Romanian version is ready to go, but is there a localized name for IsIn in Romanian too? -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:25, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

Des Moines (I assume)

[edit]

Did you erase listings for the High Life Lounge and El Bait Shop? If so, why?

If so, it was an accident-- Please copy and paste them from an earlier edit. (WT-en) Texugo 02:05, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
Actually, if it IS in fact Des Moines you are talking about, those two listing were not present in your last edit of the page, so maybe you did it yourself by accident? (WT-en) Texugo 02:10, 1 September 2006 (EDT)

Why no italics for a newspaper? Also, any tips (aka instructions) for getting photos from Websites for the site? (WT-en) Unizeppelin 00:10, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

The uses for italics sanctioned by the Manual of Style are for 1)the part of telephone numbers that is unnecessary when dialed locally, 2) foreign words, and 3) to give emphasis to a word for someone who is reading the text closely rather than skimming. Newspaper listings on dozens of other pages are already out there with no italics, so there is no reason to start here... As for photos, I don't really know-- the ones I've put up so far have all been my own. (WT-en) Texugo 00:55, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

I don't want to see a Yellow Book listings either but I think anyone who's visiting Iowa from another country would enjoy seeing an ethnic storie available to them if they want to do some cooking. I live overseas and would love it if I saw a listing where I could pick up some American-style groceries. Also, why did you delete Dahls, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Wal-Mart and Target? Two of them (Dahls and Fareway) are unique to Iowa (one in fact just to Des Moines). These are where even most of the locals shop...these places also offer a variety of services (eg, film processing, Ticketmaster) that would be great for an out-of-towner to know about. I would seriously think about re-inserting these places...after all, all I pretty much did was list how many locations were in the area and the Website...(WT-en) Unizeppelin 01:46, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

As for the long list of ethnic grocery stores, maybe try to pick the best one of each ethnicity? I think the section is dis-proportionately large compared to the percentage of travelers likely to be cooking for themselves in the middle of Iowa. As for the ones I deleted, I removed them because they are big chains, normal places just like every other city on the US map has, most of which also have pharmacies, photo processing, etc. If Dahls and Fareway are unique to Iowa, put them in the Iowa article. Wal-mart and Target are pretty ubiquitous in the States, so if anywhere, I'd put them in the United States article. I definitely don't want to see a Wal-Mart listing in every article for every American city over 10,000 people, do you? For the same reason, I remove McDonald's other mega-fast-food chains when I find listings in city articles. (WT-en) Texugo 04:20, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Greetings from USA/Italy

[edit]

Welcome and WOW !! Can see you are a real master of languages. I am an Italian-American citizen and have been working with a kind gentleman, Lucio DeMarcellis, to familiarize people with our hometown of Teramo in the Abruzzo Region. We could use some assistance translating our pages from English or Italian into Japanese and Portuguese. Any assistance you could provide would be most helpful. You might even win a private guided tour of our beautiful (but relatively unknown) city! (WT-en) Ulissi

Thanks!

[edit]

Thanks for your help there -- I wasn't quite keeping up alone. And my DSL keeps dying. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Colin 00:48, 11 September 2006 (EDT)

I hereby declare you a Wikivoyage Hero! That's the highest honor, I think! Thanks a bunch! -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 00:49, 11 September 2006 (EDT)

Admin nomination

[edit]

I went ahead and beat Evan to the punch by nominating you for admin status on ES. The email I sent you a couple days ago was about that. I hadn't realized you already became an admin on PT. By the way, the email I sent to you was the email address noted on your blog. -- (WT-en) Sapphire 00:19, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

I'm embarrassed that you had to solicit my support. You've done a great job working on Wikivoyage. --(WT-en) Evan 11:50, 26 September 2006 (EDT)
No worries! Thanks for your support! (WT-en) Texugo 02:09, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Nara restaurants

[edit]

You completely reverted the experience I had in this Nara restaurant, just based on an "assumption" that this is not possible, although I explicitly state that this is my experience. I do not know about Hamamatsu, but here in Tokyo love restaurants are a new gadget for couples who seek the thrill of having "sanctioned" sex in public. It is this kind of unreflected editing that made me drop out of Wikipedia long ago.

  • I'm sorry for the revert, but I was just thinking, you know, Nara is NOT Tokyo. Much more rural place. The description of the restaurant that was there before was fairly positive and normal. Did you actually see people having sex in the restaurant? If the place is actually as bad as you made it sound, then our policy is not to list it at all-- we don't list negative reviews-- so it was either revert what you added, or delete the listing altogether, and I opted for the former, given that I only had the word of an un-registered user IP address (you) against what was there before. Perhaps you could just delete the listing and give a more detailed account of why you did so in a note on Nara's talk page? (WT-en) Texugo 01:45, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

Admin nomination Part II

[edit]

I've nominated you to become an admin on en:. Would you stop by Project:Administrator nominations and tell us if you're willing to accept the mission? Thanks. -- (WT-en) Sapphire(Talk) • 11:29, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

New search engine

[edit]

When you get a chance, could you check out the new search engine on review (http://wikivoyage.org/review/Special:Search) and give your feedback on wts:WtTech:Lucene search? It's the search tool that Wikipedia uses, and I think it's going to be a good upgrade for us. I'd especially like to make sure that it will support our other language versions well. --(WT-en) Evan 12:37, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

Hi

Just curious - why did you remove the http://www.destinationair.com link  ? ~ 58.8.1.171 03:38, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

Autor: setenil (Juan Gutierrez) Mensaje para Texugo.

[edit]

MANY THANKS TEXUGO!

[edit]

Many thanks for editing my new input about Pinswang, Austria. It is my first contribution to Wikivoyage and I very much appreciate your making it very attractive for our readers. Best regards and thankyou for this great service! - Naz Ausgraben

I've restored the content on the infamous San Francisco parking meter article for now - the page is up for VFD, and in the past people have asked that VFD content not be removed so that it's clear what is being nominated for deletion. As always, discussion on Project:Votes for deletion is welcome if you feel strongly that the page should be blanked, although hopefully we can allow this famous meter to live out its final days without too much controversy :) -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 00:17, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

That's fine. I don't feel strongly about it-- I had just blanked it when I moved that text to the actual article so it wouldn't exist in two places, as one normally does when moving text. I figured the title alone leaves pretty clear why it should be deleted. (WT-en) Texugo 02:45, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

Ton of HTML

[edit]

If so, then how about that: Warsaw/Srodmiescie#Get_in, Warsaw#Buses? (WT-en) LukeWestwalker 09:14, 21 October 2007 (EDT)

Yep, those had better go too. I'll take care of that.(WT-en) Texugo 21:59, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
Well, I put it forward as those busnumberssigns look nice and harmless to me, also quite smart in print. Do you plan to remove them for estethic reasons only? (WT-en) LukeWestwalker 14:05, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
I thought they looked alright too, but I eliminated them because Wikivoyage has a policy about avoiding HTML. (WT-en) Texugo 22:55, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
Right. That's what I needed to be directed to. (WT-en) LukeWestwalker 11:07, 27 October 2007 (EDT)

Shimane

[edit]

Hello. What were your issues with the official city and prefectural links you deleted? I thought official links were OK.

I am curious why you marked cedar point for VFD. It was up for VFD before and voted to keep. I saw no mention on the VFD page, so I removed tag. Please comment. (WT-en) 2old 09:00, 29 November 2007 (EST)

I didn't realize it had been discussed before. I put a mention of it on the VFD page along with Six Flags Magic Mountain, but someone came along and removed the last few entries in the list for some reason. (WT-en) Texugo 22:16, 29 November 2007 (EST)

I'm new and tried to contribute - the additions were deleted very quickly. Please let me know why

[edit]

Hi Texugo I'm new and I believe that I did something wrong with my additions. It said something about copy violation... not 100% sure. Whatever I posted wouldn't violate any copyrights. Is there a reason why my honest posts got deleted and if so where can I find the reason why. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Thanks. leomax

Hi there. The portions of your contribution that I deleted were copied verbatim from www.bepacked.com, which appears to be a violation of copyright. That website's policy states, "Any unauthorized reproduction, publication, or further distribution for public exhibition of any data on the website which is owned by BPACK or any other person, in whole or in part, is strictly prohibited." If you have somehow obtained authorization from them, you must provide an explanation of the details on the discussion page before adding any such content. Bosnia Edit

[edit]

You removed a section from the Bosnia page on "Eat" - saying it was copied from another page. This is incorrect. I was the author of the majority of the Eat section on that page and the forum you pointed out - http://www.alloexpat.com/bosnia_herzegovina_expat_forum/rss.php?f=8 - copied that section from WikiTravel, not the other way around. If you review history, you will see I made the first significant addition to the Eat section on May 12, 2005. The Forum page you provide the link for was created May 14, 2007. It appears to me that you frequently remove things from other pages, judging by the comments other users have left you. The point of Wiki is to CONTRIBUTE and GROW, not to unnecessarily remove! If you have nothing to add, then don't go around cutting pages. Thanks.

It was an honest mistake. We all make those sometimes. And I don't particularly appreciate the reprimand there, because yes I do frequently remove things from pages, and that in itself is a form of contribution. I do far more removing and reorganizing than adding-- it's called editing, and it is an extremely important part of any wiki. The majority of the things I remove are indeed copyright violations, first person narratives, graffiti, spam, or they are links or other things which are out of line with Wikivoyage's policies. Sometimes sections get too long or contain extraneous information that causes the article to lose its focus and makes the pertinent information more difficult to locate, etc. The current version of the Bosnia eat section is a good example. While the tone of the text is right on, the section is a giant block of text, far bigger than the eat section for even China, with no subsections or bulleting, and it meanders a great deal, discussing stews in 3 different places, bread in two different places, etc. The one massive detailed paragraph about smoked meats is also probably more than the average traveller needs to know. The section is in need of a good editing, and I can't promise you that more text will not eventually be removed.(WT-en) Texugo 22:32, 31 January 2008 (EST)

City trimming

[edit]

Alas, I spent much time being sure that all cities and towns were included in regions for Massachusetts at the behest of Evan (remember him?) :) I understand why you are trimming, but maybe we could leave them under "other towns" or something? -(WT-en) OldPine 22:42, 24 February 2008 (EST)

I have only removed cities for which there is still no article. Why is the area any exception to our 9 cities rule? Also, doesn't this area need to be de-countyfied? (WT-en) Texugo 22:45, 24 February 2008 (EST)
I understood it this way: Not that every little town can't have its own article. I think they should, but not every little place needs to be listed on a sub-region page when the get out section of the closest decent size place would be enough. As for subdivision, I was under the impression from discussions like this that we want to use counties only when necessary. In this case, don't the three eloquently described subregions of the Connecticut River Valley, the Hilltowns, and the Eastern Uplands make more sense as a way to subdivide this region? (WT-en) Texugo 23:08, 24 February 2008 (EST)
The general consensus here, as I read it, is that we should not trim cities from regions if it orphans pagesthat is, every town for which we have an article should be navigable via the geographical hierarchy. For example, we leave +9 cities linked from Macedonia, since it currently has no sub-regions. The other feeling in this discussion was to leave +9 cities in region pages for which there is no useful subdivision. Hope that helps. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 02:00, 25 February 2008 (EST)

Panhandle regions

[edit]

Yeah, these look really good to mealthough I only visited the High Plains, so I'm no expert. Using counties wouldn't have made any sense, and your boundary descriptions look nice and precise. On a different note, I just checked out some internet photos of Caprock Canyons, and that looks like a really cool park I overlooked. A good reason to return! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 02:17, 6 March 2008 (EST)

Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

[edit]

Just curious why all the edits on my Montgomery County PA entry .. . you shortened it a lot!

Poland

[edit]

What are your thoughts onPomeranian Voivodship and Pomorskie Voivodship? They're the same. There's not an exact science to naming the voivodships, because it's easy to confuse the English translation of voivodships, so I, use a mixture of the Polish and English names when talking with friends in Warsaw. Thus, I'm not sure which name to use and which one to redirect. -- (WT-en) Sapphire(Talk) • 11:12, 12 March 2008 (EDT)

Mongolia

[edit]

This isn't wikipedia, so I don't want to vandalise. Unlike wikipedia, this could actually help someone or mean something. Therefore, I really want to hear by what reasoning Mongolia could be considered part of East Asia, and why we shouldn't just set about fixing the references. Shit, I'll do it, I have a cold. What else do I have to do?

Hey mate, seriously, can you name one similarity between Mongolia and East Asia? (WV-en) dsmccohen

Maoming

[edit]

Hiya. I have noticed that you spend quite a bit of time out here. Thought you might want to take a look at Maoming. It looks more like a Wikipedia article than a Wikivoyage information page. Keep up the good work. (WT-en) Woodstock 14:16, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

Thanks. It was almost all copyright violations. Now it's taken care of. (WT-en) Texugo 02:38, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

{{style}} tag on Albuquerque

[edit]

I was just curious, why did you add a {{style}} tag on the Eat section on Albuquerque? I took it down because as far as I can see, the Manual of Style is excellent. But I wanted to find out why you put it on, in case there is something I'm missing. (WT-en) PerryPlanet 20:08, 30 March 2008 (EDT)

I put that because there is little precedence for dividing the restaurant listings into local cuisine and non-local cuisine. If that were MoS-kosher, I'm sure every city in Japan would have to have Japanese and Non-Japanese sections. The same would be true for many thousands of other locations too. Why should Albuquerque get special treatment? (WT-en) Texugo 20:14, 30 March 2008 (EDT)
Hmmm, I never thought of that before. Santa Fe has the same setup too. I always thought dividing up the listings here was kind of useful, but I can really see your argument. Well, I'm game for merging the two back together, but let's talk to (WT-en) Bill, he's one of the main contributors to the Santa Fe article and he'd probably have something interesting to say about this. (WT-en) PerryPlanet 20:29, 30 March 2008 (EDT)
IMO the division of cuisines in the Albuquerque article is a Good Thing, because there is a specific problem with restaurant listings for "Large" city articles. Cities in that size range usually (unless they're hopelessly unattractive to the traveler) have many more satisfactory restaurants in each price range than are handled in our usual 7-to-9-member lists. However, precisely because they are Large, rather than Huge, cities, reducing the size of the lists by districtifying the city doesn't make sense. The breakout by cuisine strikes me as one of several appropriate ways of addressing the problem. There is also the point that for cities with distinctive regional cuisines (as Albuquerque has), it does the traveler a service to know which restaurants are serving that cuisine, which may be one of the things the traveler is going there specifically to get. TTCF!
I see that some time ago, you advocated cuisine headings on Project:Big city article template, but the conversation failed to "light." I've tried to re-kindle it; please join the discussion there. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 12:23, 31 March 2008 (EDT)

Your Texas articles

[edit]

Thanks for the reminder on my user talk page. I've been crazy busy with work, but am going to spend some weekends on local travel. I'm actually going through Seguin tomorrow (you created that article on 27 mar), and will try to get some photographs and fill out the page. (WT-en) Jordanmills 18:52, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

BTW where did you get these sub-region names and descriptions? Most of them seem inaccurate, and I haven't really heard of any of them. (WT-en) Jordanmills 20:02, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
Okay, you seriously need to stop reverting my region edits, especially if you're not going to discuss it. (WT-en) Jordanmills 12:09, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Excuse me?? I gave everyone a lengthy explanation of my breakdown of sub-regions here. I spent 3 or 4 weeks working on this, and the 5 macro-regions of Texas really need to be broken down because each is like the size of Pennsylvania and there are far too many towns to be covered in one region article. Before you go eliminating my subdivisions and going back to what we had before, it is you that need to discuss and suggest something better. (WT-en) Texugo 12:16, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Well now you finally talk. I tried to discuss it, and you weren't inclined to until I posted in the Travellers' pubThe subdivisions are arbitrary, oddly named, and comletely unknown. It confuses locals, let alone travelers, and shouldn't be here. (WT-en) Jordanmills 12:28, 7 April 2008 (EDT)

202.57.93.170 23:52, 12 April 2008 (EDT) How come would you remove fast foods? Is there any reason why remove Jollibee, McDonald's, etc.? It should also be included but as separate sub-sections inside the "Eat" section.

Imagine your friend is going there for a couple of days and he/she asks you, "Where is a good place to eat?" Are you going to recommend fast food? There are enough restaurants in this list that there is no reason to recommend a Big Mac. In fact, it is now slightly over the ideal number, but it needs to be separated into Budget, Mid-range, and Splurge sections. (WT-en) Texugo 02:33, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I am curious why the link I provided to on-line maps of Puerto Morelos was deleted. The maps are non-commercial and appear on a basically non-profit, informational website. I am the creator of these maps so copywrite is not an issue. The Wikivoyage page is http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Puerto_Morelos&action=history

The edit is the one done on 22 March 2008 and reverted by you on the same day. Thanks

Answer here. (WT-en) Texugo 00:24, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

Guess I'm confused on why referring to the vivapuertomorelos site is any different than all the links located in the sleep section. Most all of which are 3rd party sites.(WT-en) PuertoMorelosFrank 17:57, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

Thanks... San Gil, Colombia Page

[edit]

Thanks for administrating the page on San Gil, unfortunately someone keeps deleting useful information I have no problem with the new hostel being on the site. Ive just been coming back weekly to re-add Macondo hostel which she deletes on a monthly basis. Is there anyway of stopping businesses deleting other hostels?

There is no real way to do that short of banning the person, which we tend to avoid. Unexplained deletions tend to be reverted though, so unless there is something fundamentally non-wikivoyage about your listing in the first place, others will support your position. Do keep in mind, however, that you cannot copy and paste material from any other website without providing proof of legal permission on the Talk page. (WT-en) Texugo 19:04, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks mate, the info off the web was actually from my webpage, I apologise, should have read the rules. I guess i just have to check each week and put the info back when its deleted.

onsortir.cat

[edit]

Hi Bryan! We received a proposal of collaboration for a mutual promotion with a start-up: onsortir.cat

It's a place to gather touristic information, have people's opinions, webs for shops, videos, streaming, etc. but it's only focused to areas where the catalan language is spoken. This means all users of OnSortir write in catalan, just like users in the catalan version of Wikivoyage. They are planning for the near future (next winter or so) to introduce individual pages for each account (just like in Wikivoyage each user has its own page). The proposal is to have a banner (something similar to the babel distinction for languages) which would say "I am a OnSortir user". In exchange, they would have a banner for those users to show in their pages in OnSortir one "I am a Wikivoyage user" with a link to the Catalan Wikivoyage.

In the meantime, they also offer a free (no cost) advertising space for us in their web while it's free (still without a contract).

What do you say? Do you like it? (WT-en) Carmepla 14:25, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

Hi Texugo... I've found the content of few Thailand provinces I edited earlier are deleted by you. Why is it so? Need Advice

[edit]

You gave some good advice on my posts on Decatur, Georgia. I have someone who keeps posting a liquor store that does not need to be on this list (along with a small mexican restaurant of no note). There are several 5-6 better mexican restaurants (economy & high end) and closer liquor stores to the city, and the listing is highly suspicious (for someone to list side by side modest establishments outside the city surrounded by a car wash and car dealerships). I am even wondering if the poster has an affiliation with the store? I have done a lot of posts on wikipedia (less on wikivoyage) and recognize there are edits I do not agree with. However, this is really bizarre - these establishments do not belong on this list. Is there anything to do when something like this happens? Thanks.--(WT-en) Baxterguy 09:01, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

Fortaleza

[edit]
  • Hi. I did not understand why you undid the links I had added: One for buses within the state of Ceara, the other for a google map describing a bus line within the city. So I undid it, reverting it. Perhaps I have misunderstood something? I am sure we can come to terms. (WT-en) Mariusm98 13:52, 11 October 2008 (EDT)
  • The first link you deleted was one that points to a list of all bus lines within the state, which I cannot see as violating the policy. When it comes to the google maps I kind of see your point that maps had rather be in the wikivoyage article itself. However, as long as we don't have such maps (I never tried to make one myself. Read the instructions, and it seemed rather a lot of work), it must be better to have these google maps than nothing at all. Or?

And another thing, that is a bit on the side: Why is it that links are included when you print the guide? You sure won't need the links unless you are on a computer with an internet connection, and then you might as well open the guide online.

Why did you destroy my work on Apalachicola National Forest? I read your edit note. The page was NOT from Wikipedia; it was either Public Domain text or my own work. The Wikipedia page is not even closely related. 18,139 bytes on Wikivoyage vs. 2,871 bytes on Wikipedia? (WT-en) gamweb 02:31, 12 October 2008 (EDT)

School Project

[edit]

PLEASE leave the Lansdowne, PA page alone until after Tuesday 10/19 because I am doing this as a school project and I NEED my changes to stay. I understand that you are trying to make it uniform and better for the wikivoyage as a whole but this is for my grade and I would appreciate it if you would leave my changes alone. The page had barely anything on it until I started editing it as a project so anything I add is an improvement. Thank you for your understanding. (WT-en) Ellenlyons 23:35, 19 October 2008 (EDT)

I read the standard formatting rules and I do not see why you are making half of the changes you are making. You are also making changes that make absolutely no sense at all such as changing "Lansdowne is easily accessible" to "Lansdowne in easliy accessable". I understand that you are trying to make wikivoyage a better place but I honestly feel that you are taking away from the page I have added to, and all your repeated changes have done is discourage me from ever contributing to wikivoyage again. Before I was given this project I had never even heard of wikivoyage and when I started I got excited to add to this page but you have just frustrated me. In the article involivng Edmonton, you deleted all the work in the 'work' section. Why is that? I know it says in the 'history', but that reason I don't get, whats the point in even having a work section, really? Also, if you like look at the Calgary one, it is similar. I just don't get it. Please explain. (WT-en) Edmontonenthusiast 14:47, 24 October 2008 (EDT)

Armenia

[edit]

Hi - please let me know what Manual of Style issues you see in the Armenia, Yerevan, and all the regional articles under Armenia if you have the time. I've spent some time looking at the manual and other articles, but I think you're much more familiar with the style and it might be easier for you to spot issues. I'd prefer to make the changes necessary in order to make sure the articles make sense and work. Thanks, (WT-en) Raffikojian 15:16, 24 October 2008 (EDT)

Thanks. I'll take a look at the non-standard heading in Yerevan, they were there before and didn't change them so far as I can recall. We can merge whatever doesn't belong into the Armenia article, or wherever it does belong. I'll see what can be done about addresses as well. For the region articles, I'm glad they're in overall good shape. I am not sure though if it makes sense to put these destinations all as individual bullets. We need a way to kind of group some of them in specific areas/subgroups, for at least some of these collections of sites which I want people to see are all close to each other or in a logical order, but which from the descriptions once in the area, they can pick what they like and skip the others... the key being that they see clearly they're all in one area, or along a route. If there's a way to do this with bullets (like a separate heading for a sub-area like "Ashtarak and Kasagh River Gorge monuments", and then bullets below that, this can work for me as a workable solution. Let me know what you think of that. (WT-en) Raffikojian 14:19, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

No problem. When I started here, I too disagreed about a lot of things, but I have come to respect the consensus on the way things work. Keep an open mind and know that your work is appreciated, even if you don't hear much about it. When I started about 2 and a half years ago, I created a big page from scratch for Hamamatsu in Japan, where I live. (Incidentally, its Eat section still reflects my lack of understanding of our style guide at the time and needs to be reworked into the 3 standard price sections.) But anyway, I did it mostly by myself, since it's not a well known place and there are no other contributors who know it, but since that time, I have actually met a number of travellers using the article I contributed to, and have noticed that on occasion information in the article gets updated by other users in a fairly timely manner (i.e. when a bar closes, someone removes the listing). So keep up the good work. Satisfaction may come when you least expect it. (WT-en) Texugo 02:14, 26 October 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for the advice :)! Keep smiling, (WT-en) Edmontonenthusiast 02:18, 26 October 2008 (EDT)
Thanks again for your wonderful (even tiny) edits to Edmonton section. I am so happy:)! I laughed when you edited "Charlotte" and summarized...I know Wal-Mart is big and all...That was hilarious. Heh. Are you learning anything about Edmonton via the articles, if so, what in particular? Also, how come you got rid of the park listings in South Central? ¿ Keep smiling, (WT-en) Edmontonenthusiast 20:52, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
Ah, I have no idea how I managed to get rid of those. I put the descriptions back in. Don't think they need their own header at this point though, since there are only three things in the See section anyway. But anyway, yeah, I've never given Edmonton much thought before. Calgary is the furthest north I've been in that area, and yes, the only thing I'd heard about there was the mall, so it's good to hear about other attractions there. (WT-en) Texugo 21:12, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
Oh god, do you have any idea how much I hate that mall? That place is a hole! It destroyed the downtown in the '80s (luckily now it's on the rebound) and it just contributes to the "precious" suburban life. Edmonton is probably somewhat similar to Austin, TX, you've been in Texas, so I'd think you'd know. We have a quite large skyline, tomorrow I think, I will take pictures of the "dense" angles and upload them here. This is mostly because we have such a large residential high rise community-Oliver, but downtown itself has a lot of highrises/res highrises. US cities have tiny skyline in comparison (Edmonton probably has a bigger skyline than Houston or Miami, both 5X the size, heh)..Anyways...what stuff have you learned in particular? If it's something big, like a lot of things under the same topic just list/say small thing about them. I really want to know, unless, of course, you don't want to, ehehe. Anyways, thanks, Keep smiling, (WT-en) Edmontonenthusiast 21:18, 27 October 2008 (EDT)

As you would have noticed, I am a beginner in wikivoyage. Trying to edit my first page and I need lots of help and maybe i will ask a few doubts in the process. Saw your response and went to manual of style page and edited it using the "name of attraction" style. Is it ok? Can the tag style be removed? Thanks (WT-en) Kbala1055 08:24, 26 October 2008 (EDT)

Holla Tex, not sure I agree on your removal of the Lonely Planet phrase - it might just have been reflex - but I do think it has a place, obviously i can't quote it because of copyright issues, but it's outright wrong what they write, and a subject of much discussion at the hostels i stayed at while i was doing the trip. Personally I avoided Platzkart because of LP's description, until an Aussie dragged me into one. LP has a scary authority considering how loose their research is, and because if this I personally think it deserves a mention (every bloody traveler i met on that trip had a copy of the LP guide). (WT-en) Sertmann 18:54, 29 October 2008 (EDT)

Sorry I never replied. I was removing a lot of references to LP that day, most of which were using LP to give leverage to a recommendation. In this particular case however, I guess I overlooked the fact that the reference was being used to say LP is wrong, which is OK I suppose. If you want to restore it (if you haven't already), I could live with that. (WT-en) Texugo 23:15, 8 November 2008 (EST)

Learn

[edit]

I obviously don't get why "Learn" can't be listed in Edmonton. Seriously, I don't get it. Isn't the idea of "cope" for people who are going to be living in the city for a while? Keep smiling, (WT-en) ee talk 19:25, 10 November 2008 (EST).

Nothing on Wikivoyage is for long-term residents. This is why we don't allow real estate listings, retirement information, relocation assistance info, job search information, long-term employment statistics, public school information, or full-time higher education programs. The description of the Cope section from the article template is as follows:
This section is for all those little items that people need to know when they're in a city. Where can you do laundry? Go to a gym? Get computers repaired? Anything that has to do with the practicalities of daily life should go here.
Don't put something here when it could fit in one of the other sections. If there's nothing to put in this section, leave it out.
Hope you understand. (WT-en) Texugo 19:32, 10 November 2008 (EST)
P.S. - By the way, if a major university or whatever has historical or architectural significance, or is simply a nice place for strolling or hanging out, you might put it in the See section. Also, as it currently stands, the Learn and Work sections, when they do exist, are their own separate sections, not a subheading of Cope. (WT-en) Texugo 19:36, 10 November 2008 (EST)
KAY, it makes sense now, thanks a lot . I put work and learn under cope because there was discussion to do that. Anyways the UofA has Rutherford House which is a historical building and Robbins Health Centere apart of Grant MaCewan is a architectural beauty. What if you did something about learn in the Understand section? Keep smiling, (WT-en) ee talk 19:43, 10 November 2008 (EST).
The Learn section, as I said before, is a stand alone section. It is for courses (cooking, crafts, local history, language, scuba, etc.) that a tourist might be interested in doing while in the destination. (WT-en) Texugo 19:45, 10 November 2008 (EST)
Well this would be talking about the education centres in the city-again, this would be different. Keep smiling, (WT-en) ee talk 19:48, 10 November 2008 (EST).

skyline

[edit]

Hey Texugo! How has it been? Anyways, I won't revert it, I'd rather have discussion as to the skyline view from Forest Heights Park. For Edmonton. I am sorry if it is offensive, but when you look at most American cities <1.7mill, you get this, , , , , etc. Which-no offense-reinforces that there are few that are different form this. Small, blobs of a financial district- though the towers are tall, the skyscraper area is small and mostly is of brutalist office towers. Maybe I searched bad examples, show me some more. Don't come out with New York or Minneapolis, I know those are different. I am sorry. But, I'd like to hear your opinion. It is also a known fact as to why Canadian cities have exceedingly higher density to their American similar sised-in the 60s, 70s and 80s, there was a lotta urban decay and big racial issues in the US which made the development put off. In Canada, there was some decay, but not much so they kept building, but I am saying there is an angle of Edmonton where you can get that kind of American feel, as there is for Montreal (Boston, Rochester) and Calgary (Denver)and Winnipeg(Salt Lake City). (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 12:40, 29 November 2008 (EST).

I don't really understand what it is that you are saying is so qualitatively different about the skyline itself. I mean, every city has a different skyline so it's a little hard to generalize, and I don't ever get "an American feel" or "a Canadian feel" just by seeing a skyline anyway. I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. (WT-en) Texugo 23:56, 29 November 2008 (EST)
It's not a tuff concept. You are saying you don't feel a style in a skyline comparing Canadian, Australian, America, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese cities? Tell me exactly what you don't get. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 00:17, 30 November 2008 (EST).
Also what do ya think "typical power centre" means? It's just not that hard to understand. You should be able to grasp it. I really don't get it. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 00:19, 30 November 2008 (EST).
Of course Japanese skylines are different. Very, very, very different. But the difference if any between Canadian and American skylines is really not that remarkable at all. As for the Depot place, the phrase I removed was "This place is just that regular power centre," which makes it sound like the reader already knows what to expect there, rather than actually giving the information. The term "power center" itself is a Canadianism. I don't know if the term has caught on in the states or not, but you are the first person I've ever heard use it, and personally I had to look it up to see what you are talking about. That's not the kind of writing we want to use, I believe. (WT-en) Texugo 00:50, 30 November 2008 (EST)
Also, it is fairly rude to justify your opinion by questioning the other person's cognitive skills with phrases like "it's not a tuff concept" and "it's not that hard to understand", etc. Don't talk to me that way anymore. (WT-en) Texugo 00:54, 30 November 2008 (EST)
Funny I heard that term first on AmericanTV. Canadian/American skylines are more different than you think. Over all, similar, but still. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 01:45, 30 November 2008 (EST).

Accommodation listing, Holmes County

[edit]

Hi there. Any particular reason you deleted this information from the Holmes County Article I edited? It is clear that you have the Inn At Honey Run listed there and The Barn Inn is located less than 350' away from that location, which is also in Holmes County. Accommodation listing, Millersburg

[edit]

Hi there again. I just had user (WT-en) Peterfitzgerald revert the addition you approved for Millersburg. Are you guys on the same page or do you just randomly undo edits and additions? It's amazing anything gets added to this place with all the inconsistencies. (WT-en) Silenyjizda

You changed the name of the map on this page from [[Image:Dalton Highway Map.gif... to [[Image:Dalton_Highway_Map.gif... then, two edits later deleted the imagebox because you said there was no image. Also, you said that .gif should not be used. According to the image use page on Wikivoyage Shared, "The GIF format should not be used, since it is technically inferior to PNG, which has about the same purpose." Well, the map was the only such map I could find online and it was created in .gif format. The only way I can think of changing it from .gif to .png would be to take a screenshot on my computer, but since the screen is only 15" the map would be shrunk in size and much of the text would be too small to read. If the file format is inferior, I would assume that you would want a better format, but would it be acceptable to keep .gif format in lieu of a better format. I think the article is greatly benefitted by having a map. (WT-en) AHeneen 16:24, 30 November 2008 (EST)

PNG, you say? Most graphic-editing software is able to convert between those formats without difficulty, like so: (WT-en) Dguillaime 17:09, 30 November 2008 (EST)

Good question. Licensing is not my strongpoint. I suggest you ask (WT-en) Peter or (WT-en) Jani. (WT-en) Texugo 00:21, 5 December 2008 (EST)

You have reverted my edit. It's sad that you are supporting to leave a controversial section in the article as it is, in place of putting it in to the article only after proper consensus. Please stop ganging up. I don't know know if there is no rule on wikivoyage. (WT-en) Manoj nav 01:41, 5 December 2008 (EST)

The best articles are San Francisco (and it's districts), Chicago (and it's districts), Paris (and it's districts), Albuquerque, Sante Fe, Sheki, and Pittsburgh. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 14:07, 5 December 2008 (EST).

Um.. I answered that question long ago, ee, on his talk page. (WT-en) Texugo 01:10, 6 December 2008 (EST)

Your question.

[edit]

While I appreciate you asking for my input, upon readinng the text of your proposal, I find it to be waaaay over my head. I was born in a much simpler time and barely grasp the whole wiki concept, so I just play along and try not to make a mess. Keep up the good work, but I think you need a sharper mind than mine for these technical issues. I just like lobster and the beach. Wikivoyage is there for me to find a safe beach and cheap lobster. It is a great project which will only get better, I am amazed at the amount of data added every day. All of you impress me every day. Well, most of you. :-) 14:00, 5 December 2008 (EST)

The text above was from me. Apparently, I was not signed in. I have been following you Route Box addition to the detinations. After seeing what you are doing, I think that is a great idea and addittion to wikivoyage. Good job!! (WT-en) 2old 11:58, 20 December 2008 (EST)

I created the List of US Interstates as a complement to the expedition to provide a list of the interstates for users to create articles. I figured that once the list is complete it could be a subsection of List of itineraries. I'm still learning all the rules and customs around here, I'm not perfect yet. Great!

[edit]

Great work implenting the highway thing in cities. It is very good, and you are doing an amazing work. I hope to get doing some aswell once we sort out the Canadian highway thing and I learn more about it (haven't seen too much on it). Good job and it was a wonderful idea. Route Boxes

[edit]

I have not been around here much lately, but I had to stop by your talk page and let you know how much I like the Route Boxes that you have been working on. Excellent work. These should be very useful. Kudos to you for the work. I am not sure how much I will be around, but I will help where I can. (WT-en) Tom Holland (xltel) 08:33, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Hey Brian, I think the routeboxes look very cool, and I'm interested to see how they develop. I still don't, however, feel like I have a very good idea of how they will work sitewide. So for the time being I'll just add a "ditto" to what Ryan already said on the Routes Expedition talk page. I'll try and give more detailed feedback when you get a policy page up and running. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:18, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Route Box Discussion

[edit]

I rearranged some of your comments in response to my notes on the route box discussion, so the points were kept separate. I hope I just kept things clear, and didn't move any of your comments out of their context. --(WT-en) Inas 20:46, 15 December 2008 (EST)

Looks fine to me. (WT-en) Texugo 21:00, 15 December 2008 (EST)

edmonton cotm

[edit]

Would you be willing to help in Edmontons cotm next month? You are a real help and you know the rules and how to format, so I don't see why not. It would be a great help, if you cant, that's fine to. I just want to recruit some people so I know it will get worked on, as opposed to others. Anyways, thanks for all the help so far TEXUGO! Anyways , (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 14:09, 18 December 2008 (EST).

The italic

[edit]

Hey, since you are so keen on deleting the headers that remind people to check the districts, check Vancouver cause it has a bunch. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 12:28, 20 December 2008 (EST).

OK, I'll check it out. Chicago and Paris don't have them, and they are a lot bigger-- some of the best city articles we have.(WT-en) Texugo 12:36, 20 December 2008 (EST)
Yes I know. One day Edmonton hopfully will be one of those. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 12:41, 20 December 2008 (EST).

Revision Districts

[edit]

Hey Tex I was wondering if you could help with your view on Talk:Edmonton at the bottom because you do have great opinion. (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 14:27, 21 December 2008 (EST).

Merry Christmas

[edit]

Hi Tex! I hope you have a Merry Christmas. I want to thank you for your wonderful help in articles I've been editing as they have been greatly appreciated, also I appreciate you helping me out find the rules and norms. I also want to thank you for implenting the route box. Have a wonderful Christmas, along with your family. Have a great New Year. Happy holidays, (WT-en) edmontonenthusiast [ee] .T.A.L.K. 12:54, 25 December 2008 (EST).

Jasper NP

[edit]

Hi Texago, thanks for the comments on the Jasper routebox. I think I did that the first day before I had figured out it wouldn't work. I'd still like to mention the national parks (because they're a big draw themselves), so I've set up the routes so it reads: Jasper (in Jasper NP). I've also updated the Jasper NP routebox so it reads the same as the Jasper routebox. Let me know if you think this works or not. Cheers (WT-en) Shaund 22:21, 1 January 2009 (EST)
