Hi! I'm a bot operator. operating User:The Anomebot2, which is adding article coordinates to Wikivoyage articles sourced from the corresponding English-language Wikipedia articles.

If there are any problems with the bot's edits, please let me know here. -- The Anome (talk) 11:43, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

I have a bot suggestion for you. When a page gets moved it leaves behind a redirect, but frequently the editor that moved the page doesn't do the clean up work on articles that has Internal links pointing to the new redirect page. The links still work, but it hits the redirect and then gets sent to the correct page. It may be anal retentive, but I think it is better to have Internal links point the actual page in lieu of a redirect page. Just a thought, not sure if it even possible or how difficult it would be. On a separate note, thanks for all work with the bots! Tom Holland (Xltel) (talk) 03:34, 11 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

dmoz

[edit]

hi whats the point of al your dmoz tags? Many of them are as good as empty.

Quite a lot are very sparse, yes, but I don't believe any of them are empty. Dmoz is a relevant source of lightly-curated information that is, I believe, license-compatible with this project (see http://www.dmoz.org/license.html ), so it's definitely appropriate to link there. -- The Anome (talk) 21:25, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

isPartOf

[edit]

Note the syntax for {{isPartOf}} once there is a method of automatically creating the categories from the breadcrumbs is at {{isPartOf/sandbox}}.--Traveler100 (talk) 21:20, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and once the categories are created, hopefully within hours, I'm going to re-alter the template to automatically link to the template unconditionally. That way, if a new article is created with a new {{IsPartOf}} tag, it will make it immediately clear that the category does not exist, and hopefully the page creator, or someone else, will then create it manually. -- The Anome (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great news that this is going to be done. I was just cleaning up some that were created today. Will be good to remove the create category icon but I do not want to loose the other functionality of the template. --Traveler100 (talk) 21:28, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, I'll put the category linking back into the templagte, and also auto-assignment of a meta-category when the category's missing, when I've created the categories. -- The Anome (talk) 21:45, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I was about to do some cleanup of ispartof and region pages that do not correspond. Discovered via the categories already there. But maybe I will wait a few hours and see how big the issue really is.--Traveler100 (talk) 21:31, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
This is also something I can work on, if it becomes a big problem. I'll look at creating the categories later today. -- The Anome (talk) 21:43, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Note the naming convention of the categories is the same as the isPartOf parameter and also note the content of the category pages using the two templates to control text and parent category. See the examples created. --Traveler100 (talk) 21:47, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll take a look, and try to copy what you have set up already. I'm now just waiting for admin permission on Wikivoyage:Script nominations. -- The Anome (talk) 21:51, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Special:Mapsources

[edit]

Thanks for your work on "isPartOf".

It looks like there is a solution for the issues you'd encountered with Special:Mapsources and Wikivoyage:Map sources (bugzilla:44047). Don't copy the answers from Wikipedia (as they don't have mw:extension:MapSources installed), instead find a Wikivoyage where the page is working (I took fr:Wikivoyage:Sources de cartes as I speak Canadian, eh?) and steal that wiki's map sources project page. K7L (talk) 14:49, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Great. Thanks. I should have the category constrution done soon, too. -- The Anome (talk) 21:25, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

RFC

[edit]

Could your bot deal with this? Wikivoyage:Travellers'_pub#Import_issue Pashley (talk) 21:05, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Given the discussion there, I'm afraid I'll have to decline. -- The Anome (talk) 22:44, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Geo

[edit]

Is there any chance I could persuade you to start work again on adding geocoordinates to articles from articles about the same location on Wikipedia? I'm particularly excited about some current work being done , but it won't be all that usable until we get closer to our end goal of having all articles properly geotagged! --Peter Talk 03:14, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I'll revisit this task soon. -- The Anome (talk) 12:53, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! --Peter Talk 19:18, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Original Barnstar
Thanks for all of your work in adding Wikipedia links, dmoz links, etc. That's a pretty thankless job, but long term it lays a foundation for better collaboration between projects, improved SEO, etc. Many thanks! -- Ryan (talk) 20:13, 2 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! -- The Anome (talk) 20:19, 2 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

geo bot

[edit]

Hi there. You did a great job with that bot to import geo data from the corresponding wp article. I was wondering if you would be willing to whip up a version that would do the same thing over on pt:. We have a lot fewer articles, only about 3000, but it's still enough for it to be a hell of a tedious job to do it manually. What do you say? Texugo (talk) 11:42, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure. If you give User:The Anomebot2 bot rights on pt:, I can do this in a week or two's time, after I've finished populating entries on en: -- The Anome (talk) 13:15, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I'm in from from the French WV. I was looking to such a bot like your, I wrote on the pub and they sent me to You. We as the Portuguese have about 3000 articles and only a few one incorporate the Geo template so we would be very glad if your bot could help us as well. Thanks for your cooperation, --Adehertogh (talk) 17:09, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Missing geo tags

[edit]

People at Wikivoyage:Dynamic maps Expedition are adding maps that depend on geo tags. Is there anything your bot might do that would be helpful there?

In particular, Wikivoyage:World cities/Large shows several cities that are not getting the automatic maps; you can sort on the last column to get a list. This is probably because they lack tags, or perhaps have empty tags. If these big cities are missing them, probably hundreds of smaller places are too. Could your bot help there? Pashley (talk) 15:19, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

About Wikivoyage:Script_nominations#Using_the_bot_to_help_crowdsource_links_to_Wikipedia_articles: Has this task been run? It seems that it would be extremely helpful, as a first step before adding latitude/longitude to most of the 6361 articles that don't have a Geo template (latitude/longitude). Thanks for all of your awesome work!! Nicolas1981 (talk) 06:24, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Hi there! Could you do us a favor and look here and tell us if you still plan to run this bot? You had support for the idea, but if you're not going to run the bot, we don't need to keep the template and empty category hanging around forever. Thanks! Texugo (talk) 20:13, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
