Wikivoyage:Banner suggestions

This is where you can list suggestions for page banners, for articles which don't currently have a unique page banner. Please provide a link to the image file either on Wikimedia Commons or Flickr next to the link of the article name for which the banner is suggested. You can also suggest the position of the crop, bearing in mind that the crop must have a width to height ratio of 7:1, and that the resulting cropped image must be at least 1800 pixels wide (and ideally at least 2100 pixels).
This page should only be used to suggest a new banner in one of the following situations:
- The article currently has one of the default monochrome page banners.
- The existing banner doesn't meet the technical requiements for banner dimensions - it is less than 1800 pixels wide, or does not have a 7:1 aspect ratio.
- The existing banner (or the photo it was cropped from) is nominated for deletion on Commons.
- There is agreement to replace the banner (or no response after 7 days) in a discussion on the article's talk page. Please put a note about this discussion on Wikivoyage:Requests for comment.
If you make a banner from one of these suggestions, please leave a link to it after the suggestion, add the Done template and sign. You can write "taken" after the suggestion while you are busy to prevent others from duplicating your work.
Having many more people involved in the process of finding suitable free CC source photos for our page banners (especially people who don't have the skills or facilities to create page banners themselves), that exist on either Flickr or Wikimedia Commons, greatly helps speed up the process of creating all the missing banners.
It is recommended to search for available photos on Wikimedia Commons, the image repository that Wikivoyage uses. You can also look for free CC photos on Flickr or using search.creativecommons.org (make sure that both check marks at the top are marked). For example, in many instances you might increase chances of finding good relevant photos by using the following search queries syntax on both Flickr and Wikimedia Commons - "{Destination name} panorama", or "{Destination name} panoramic", or "{Destination name} skyline", or "{Destination name} downtown".
There is an archive at Wikivoyage:Banner suggestions/Archive.
Suggestions[edit]
- For Gwangyang, I suggest Yi_Sun-sin_Bridge. Currently, only jars are listed on the banner on the Gwangyang page, which is too bad to be set as a banner representing the area called Gwangyang. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels. Hojong9474 (talk) 06:08, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done Gwangyang already has a banner; any change to the banner should be proposed on the talk page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:44, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Please start a discussion at Talk:Gwangyang. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:38, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Minamata, I suggestion banner change to Minamata_City_Central_from_Nakaoyama_2020. This picture gives a better view of Minamata as the overall. --Cookinu (talk) 06:13, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done. Minamata already has a banner; any change to the banner should be proposed on the talk page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Cookinu, do you know how to start a discussion? You can see what one of your classmates did at Talk:Depok#New Banner Suggestion. Click on Talk:Minamata and then find the big blue button that says "Start a discussion". It's similar to sending an e-mail message, with a subject (title) and a message. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:44, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Incheon, I suggest Incheon_Gugsabong_view. Existing banners feel dull, and Incheon is connected to the sea, which is a big advantage. I think it would be better if the photo with the advantage was changed to a banner. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:23, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Yeongdeok, I suggest thumb|영덕 대게. Currently, Yeongdeok's banner is boring. Yeongdeok is famous for snow crabs, so if this picture is longer, I can add it to Yeongdeok's banner Baekjiwoo (talk) 06:22, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done. Yeongdeok is a redlink – did you make a typo or something? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:51, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SHB2000 I think the student meant Yeongdeok County. I'll tell them today to start a talk page discussion in such cases. Are the talk page discussions really monitored (instead of this central location?) Piotrus (talk) 03:10, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Baekjiwoo, could you please start a discussion at Talk:Yeongdeok County about this? Look at Talk:Gayasan National Park#Banner suggestion or Talk:Tiel#Changing the banner. (don't worry about the picture part) to see how your classmates are doing this. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:35, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Stanley banner, I suggest images from User:Kcjsew/UserWikivoyage.Banner suggestions.--Kcjsew (talk) 06:24, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done. Stanley is a disambiguation page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:50, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Stanley banner, I suggest images from User:Kcjsew/UserWikivoyage.Banner suggestions ~~ Kcjsew (talk) 06:01, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SHB2000 I mean this Stanley (North Dakota) Kcjsew (talk) 06:03, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kcjsew: Only File:High Bushblades - geograph.org.uk - 2856089.jpg meets the minimum 2100x300-pixel requirement and take is taken in County Durham, England, not N Dakota. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:32, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Tongyeong, I suggest File:Korea-Tongyeong . Currently, the banner of Tongyeong Page feels difficult to recognize at a glance. I chose this picture as a banner because the scenery of going up by cable car and looking at the skywalk is beautiful, and it is a place I visit a lot when traveling.--Iddd00 (talk) 06:43, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Iddd00, this image is big enough. Could you please start a discussion at Talk:Tongyeong? Look at Talk:Gayasan National Park#Banner suggestion or Talk:Tiel#Changing the banner. (don't worry about the picture part) to see how your classmates are doing this. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:33, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Jeju, I suggest KOCIS_Halla_Mountain_in_Jeju-do_(6387785543). The existing "Jeju" banner feels a little desolate and has a dull color. I think the banner I present is better suited to the banner of "Jeju" because the image quality is clear and the flowers of Hallasan Mountain and Jeju are well harmonized. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:32, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done Please discuss changing the banner on the article's talk page. AlasdairW (talk) 10:24, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Please start a discussion at Talk:Jeju. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:31, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Busan, I suggest Korea-Busan-Busan_Tower-01. Busan is a city with a developed port. Currently, the banner of "Busan" is good, but the picture is a little dark and dull. Therefore, this picture, which is clear and has all the ports, the sea, and the village, is more suitable for the "Busan" banner. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:36, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Hojong9474:
Not done Busan already has a banner; any change to the banner should be proposed on the talk page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:10, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

- @Hojong9474:
- For Taebaek, I suggest File:Taebaek Banner.jpg to change File:P20170829 135357766 CF79A71D-FBBE-4D67-992A-9044CDEA4E61.jpg. The representative picture of Taebaek is Taebaeksan Mountain and the panoramic view of the snow, but it was not. Therefore, I hope to change it to a picture that represents the Taebaeksan Cheonjedan. Jung Subin (talk) 06:49, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done Taebaek already has a banner that's larger than 2100px by 300px; any change to the banner should be proposed on the talk page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:42, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

- For Ganghwa Island, I suggest 석모대교. The existing 'Ganghwado' banner is a dark and dull image. I think a banner with a brighter and brighter image will suit you better. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:45, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- No. The existing banner is a satisfactory sunset image. Please come back after you have agreement on the talk page that the replacement image is preferred by others. AlasdairW (talk) 21:51, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Hojong9474, you have very good explanations for your suggestions. Could you please start a discussion at Talk:Ganghwa Island about this? WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:28, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- No. The existing banner is a satisfactory sunset image. Please come back after you have agreement on the talk page that the replacement image is preferred by others. AlasdairW (talk) 21:51, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Nonsan, It does not have a banner of images associated with itself. So I recommend this image File:Eungdo Dang of Donam Seowon.jpg as the banner. This photo is a famous spot in Nonsan recognized by the World Heritage Committee.--Meloncookie (talk) 14:23, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- I like this suggestion, @Meloncookie. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:58, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Deokso, I suggest this image 덕소_삼패공원_가는_길_05 because there is no banner image.--Leeyj0401 (talk) 05:54, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- Unfortunately this image can't be cropped using the crop tool at the moment, as the licence hasn't been reviewed. I couldn't find a licence in English on the source page, so I don't want to crop it manually. Please try again in a few months, or suggest an alternative image. I see thst commons has an image of the Restaurant Plane, but the WP article claims that it is no longer there - is the plane still there? AlasdairW (talk) 22:19, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @AlasdairW I checked the name of the uploader and blogger is same. 세아이아빠 . is this enough to confirm the license? Leeyj0401 (talk) 05:53, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't think that is enough. I have now looked at an online translation of the linked page. I didn't see clear statement that the blogger took the photo, or that the photo is available with Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 compatible license. Thanks for looking into this.
- I only found two photos of Deokso, of which only File:Korail Deokso Station Exit1.jpg is big enough to crop but it would be hard to make a banner from it. Do you have any of your own photos of Deokso, which you could upload to Commons? AlasdairW (talk) 23:28, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @AlasdairW I confirmed that the restaurant plane disappeared. I'll edit that section. Leeyj0401 (talk) 06:00, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

- For Sejong, I suggest Government_Complex_Sejong_NAACC. I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:07, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done Sejong City already has a banner. AlasdairW (talk) 16:44, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- We need a discussion at Talk:Sejong City about this. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:27, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Nonsan, I suggest 논산_명재_고택. Currently, there is no image banner for the 'Nonsan' area. Therefore, it would be good to replace the banner with the picture. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:11, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- No, that image is 800 × 533 pixels, which is not wide enough. Please choose another image. Also see alternative suggested above. AlasdairW (talk) 21:10, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- A different image has been suggested for this town above. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:59, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- No, that image is 800 × 533 pixels, which is not wide enough. Please choose another image. Also see alternative suggested above. AlasdairW (talk) 21:10, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Daejeon, I suggest Daejeon_Expo_Bridge_2020_2. Currently, Daejeon's banner uses an image that is out of focus on the dark night background. Therefore, I propose an image of a beautiful natural environment with daytime scenery as a banner of the Daejeon area. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:16, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

- We need a discussion to be started at Talk:Daejeon. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:26, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Sinchon, I suggest Sinchonmuseum. Currently, there is no banner image in the "Shinchon" area, so it would be good to add a banner with the photo. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:20, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Gumi, I suggest DaeWon_reservoir_SunSan_Resting_Place(Highway). Currently, banner photos in the Gumi area contain photos of kimchi, a Korean culture, rather than representing the region. Therefore, the photo containing the natural environment of Gumi is recommended as a banner image of Gumi. And I recommended minimum dimensions are 2100*300 pixels.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:27, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Not done The image you suggest is 2,048 × 1,536 pixels, and the article already has a banner; any change to the banner should be proposed on the talk page. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 02:46, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- The image is big enough, but we need a discussion at Talk:Gumi (the link is red today, because there are no discussions there). WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:25, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Uljin County, I suggest File:Korea Route7 02 (16514656327).jpg. The banner now has nothing to do with Uljin.--Iddd00 (talk) 06:32, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- I am not happy with the licencing of this image. Although it is tagged with the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic licence. The description gives restrictions which don't fit with that licence.
- Surprisingly this image of the nuclear power station looks like it would make a good crop: File:Ulchin (now Hanul) 04790182 (8506930230).jpg. Is this suitable? AlasdairW (talk) 10:53, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Flying to South America, I suggest File:Avión en vuelo.JPG, cropped to show the plane in the sky. I suggest cropping this horizontally as well, to remove some of the blue sky on the right, so that the plane is closer to the center (or even on the right-hand side). That should reduce the risk of the long article title covering up the plane. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:27, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
Done. I've tried to minimise the sky, but our 2100- by 300-pixel requirement means the plane slightly towards the left. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 05:44, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. At default zoom in my web browser, the page title and the airplane align very nicely – almost like "Flying to South America 🛫". WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:02, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Omiyage, I suggest File:Christmas-xmas-gifts-presents (23698727474).jpg. I think a stripe taken near the bottom will look best. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:11, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- For Nonsan, i suggest this image for the banner File:논산 명재 고택.jpg for Nonsan. --2019046062 최혜린 (talk) 05:54, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @2019046062 최혜린, a different image has been suggested for this town above. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:02, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Ulsan, I suggest 태화강,울산. Taehwa River is the representative river of Ulsan. And as Ulsan is undergoing industrialization smoothly, I think it would be good if a banner that shows the appearance of the city center could be used as a banner for Ulsan.Hojong9474 (talk) 05:57, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Hojong9474 has started the discussion at Talk:Ulsan#Banner Suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't think this image is big enough. When you click on the link for the image, and you look under the image, it says (in small text):
- Size of this preview: 800 × 530 pixels. Other resolutions: 320 × 212 pixels | 640 × 424 pixels | 936 × 620 pixels.
- Original file (936 × 620 pixels, file size: 244 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)
- Banners need to be ≥1800 pixels wide. This one is only 936 pixels wide. We will need to find a different picture. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:07, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Namhae, I suggest 남해_가천마을_다랑이_논. Currently, the banner image of Namhae is full of ships, and Namhae is famous for its many rice paddies. Therefore, I think it would be good to change the banner of Namhae to the image I suggest.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:01, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
Done I have put the banner on the talk page, where there is a discussion on banner replacement. AlasdairW (talk) 23:55, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- The discussion is at Talk:Namhae#Banner Suggestions WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:23, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Gayasan National Park, I suggest Gayasan. Gayasan National Park would be nice if Gayasan Mountain became the representative image. Therefore, the banner also recommends the image of Gayasan Mountain.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:06, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- The image is big enough. The discussion is at Talk:Gayasan National Park#Banner suggestion. It would help if someone could make a banner from the suggestion and post it in the discussion. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:09, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Somaemuldo, I suggest Somaemuldo_Island_20190510_03. The banner picture of the current retail map is very blurred and dull. Therefore, it would be good if the banner was replaced with an image that shows the retail price more clearly.Hojong9474 (talk) 06:08, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- This image is big enough. The discussion is at Talk:Somaemuldo#Banner Suggestions. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:10, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Nantong, I suggest File:Nantong 2.jpg. There is no picture on this page, I think we can add this sunset to make the city look gentle.Csiiiyu (talk) 06:18, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Csiiiyu, thank you for this suggestion. I think this is a good suggestion. It is a very nice picture, and it is big enough. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:11, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Paju, The banner on this page is Seoul, not Paju. so I suggest Paju_Soryeongwon. --Leeyj0401 (talk) 06:23, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Leeyj0401, thank you for telling us about this error. Do you know where (in Seoul) the old banner is? (It's okay if you don't know.) The name of the old banner is c:File:Paju Banner.jpg and I would like the old banner to have an accurate name. If you can tell me what's in the picture or where it is (street name? neighborhood? building? monument?), then I can use that information for the new name. Otherwise, I will suggest a plain name like "Seoul Korea 1 banner".
- The suggested new picture is big enough to make a banner. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:16, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- The place of the banner is Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. I recommend 'Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul' as the name of the image. Leeyj0401 (talk) 06:09, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Leeyj0401. I have submitted the request to rename the file. I appreciate your help. WhatamIdoing (talk) 08:06, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- The place of the banner is Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. I recommend 'Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul' as the name of the image. Leeyj0401 (talk) 06:09, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- For Jeongseon, Jeongseon's current banner is a focus-out vegetable picture. I think the picture of the tourist road based on the traditional song in this city would be better. So I recommend this image File:Jeongseon Arirang Train 20150116 03 (16289861551).jpg as the banner. Meloncookie (talk) 06:40, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
