Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Someonehere12345! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Gizza (roam) 01:17, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates and maps

[edit]

Hey Someone here,

Please make sure that you only add full listings to an article that are in the city or place the article is about. When you put a listing with coordinates and/or the wikidata number is a different city's article, it screws up the map. In Carrollton (Virginia), the map now shows the whole region instead of Carrollton because you've put in listings with coordinates for places in Newport News, Norfolk, and even as far away as Williamsburg. That means that all of the map points in Carrollton are clustered in a tight knot, and you can't see anything in Carrollton.

If you think it's really important to list the Williamsburg Transportation Center in the Carrollton article, you can do it this way:

"There is also a train station at the Williamsburg Transportation Center."

That way, readers can click through the link to find the details on that place, but it doesn't mess up the map.

I hope this helps you understand how we do things in Wikivoyage. I'd appreciate it if you could remove the out-of-city listing details you've been adding to articles. Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 02:51, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, so I should just be like "There are train stations in Newport News, Norfolk, and Williamsburg."? Someonehere12345 (talk) 02:55, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I removed all the out of city get in listings, I just think it feels a bit off and a little lazy to have it just mention it in a text rather then a listing, isnt there someway I can have it be actual listings, while at the same time not messing up the map? Someonehere12345 (talk) 03:01, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know how to do that, and I don't think it is a good idea. If the details of a listing appear in different articles, and someone updates the listing in one article but not the others, it would be confusing for readers. Ground Zero (talk) 04:05, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Page banner

[edit]

Since you're from the community, can you suggest (or take) a picture for the page banner that represents Carrollton? OhanaUnitedTalk page 16:58, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have a picture in mind (Nike Park sign), But I haven't been to the place where I would take the picture since I started the Carrollton article. The next time im there however I will take a picture and upload it to commons. Someonehere12345 (talk) 18:01, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it's absolutely fine to edit the featured joke article on April 1 and is encouraged, too! Thanks for helping out. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 04:10, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your welcome. Thanks for telling me. I look forward to seeing what everyone else will add and will be sure to keep it in mind in future years. Someonehere12345 (talk) 16:52, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Suffolk

[edit]

The county is likely the primary topic, all the links are for it? I think this should have been discussed first. Crouch, Swale (talk) 07:34, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I did not know. Someonehere12345 (talk) 14:38, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
