Revisiting the Name

@Hobbitschuster, Shaundd, Kevlar67, Ground Zero: I noticed that the page was recently renamed from "Central Corridor" to "Central Corridor of Alberta" as the former was considered too non-descript. If a more descriptive name is desired, would something like the "Calgary–Edmonton Corridor", "QE2 Corridor", "Queen Elizabeth II Corridor" (or QE2 Highway Corridor/Queen Elizabeth II Highway Corridor) work better? It's a name more locally recognized than "Central Corridor of Alberta". The "Calgary–Edmonton Corridor" would not include Calgary or Edmonton, who's respective metropolitan areas are their own top-level regions, so I don't know if that would be a concern from a Wikivoyage naming perspective. As all the Alberta regional boundaries were recently and comprehensively changed, the boundaries can remain the same. Thoughts? -- MuzikMachine (talk) 16:53, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

I don't know Alberta well, so I defer to your expertise. I'm working on Alberta articles as a way of researching a planned trip. Page moves should be discussed before they are made for this very reason. Thanks MM. Ground Zero (talk) 16:58, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Probably reverting it until a consensus is reached would be best. There's enough places that could use generic names such as "North Coast", "North Shore", etc. that Central Corridor isn't horrible. -- MuzikMachine (talk) 17:08, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

In general names that are only "North" or "The Coast" should be avoided. "Central Corridor" is likewise one that is not clear when one only stumbles across it in recent changes. I moved to an obvious clear name but as I am not Albertan and have never been there, I wouldn't know which name would fit better. Hopefully one day it'll be the Alberta High Speed Rail Corridor, but that's probably some ways off. Anyway, I think plunging forward was the right call as it got a discussion going which would otherwise not have happened or never yielded results. No, starting a discussion on the talk page would have been the right way of getting the discussion going. I've already pointed out to you a move that I have proposed, and that is yielding a consensus. Ignoring how things are done in Wikivoyage, especially on an article that has been edited recently by a few editors, is an aggressive way of handling things. I'll return the article to its original name until the discussion has been completed.

Wikipedia uses Calgary–Edmonton Corridor to include Calgary and Edmonton, so that wouldn't be a good choice. What about "Central Alberta Corridor"? Ground Zero (talk) 19:05, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Just wondering about thoughts on the "Queen Elizabeth II Highway Corridor" (or some derivative)? Almost all the communities listed are along the QEII Hwy (Hwy 2) or close by. If you disagree with Wikivoyage:How to rename a page, you can propose changes to it. Why would you not consult those who have been writing this article before moving it, especially when you don't know the region? You got it wrong. Admit you goofed, and move on. Being from Alberta, the "Calgary-Edmonton Corridor" is what the area is called and would be the most descriptive; however it's problematic for reasons already discussed. It just so happens this is the only article that uses that name, otherwise it would be called Central Corridor (Alberta) (is Central Alberta Corridor redundant when it's a child of the Central Alberta region?). In looking at disambiguation pages, there are plenty of North/South/East/West/Central Coasts and Shores (i.e. North Coast). I found only one region that uses a highway as it's name, the I-380 Corridor. My thoughts are either changing it to the "QE2 Highway Corridor"/"Queen Elizabeth II Highway Corridor" (either full name or abbreviated) or simply leaving it as is. -- MuzikMachine (talk) 01:18, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

I think we should leave it as Central Corridor. "Calgary-Edmonton Corridor" is more common, but it's problematic as others noted. In the case of this article the lede explains where the region is located and Central Alberta also provides a decent description so I think that should clear up any ambiguity about "Central Corridor". I find "QE II Highway Corridor" awkward and I didn't find many references to it when I did a Google search so my preference would be to not use it. -Shaundd (talk) 05:34, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
