Mainland Oceania[edit]

The article says "The Snowies are possibly the best you could get in terms of alpine weather in mainland Oceania." I'm not completely sure what this means. Does mainland Oceania include anything besides mainland Australia? If not, the second term seems more recognizable to me. —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:54, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Technically PNG has much higher mountains than Australia does (about 4000m in elevation), and the mountains in NZ have much more fjords and an alpine weather than the ones in Australia do. Tasmania also has quite an alpine weather, given it snows nearly everywhere outside its capital during winter despite the low altitude, and then there's also the occasional snow in New Caledonia's "Grande Terre".

The reason why I used "mainland Oceania" is because many think that Oceania only has beaches (which is what's mostly thought of) + some desert in Australia, but the mountains and the alpine weather are often not recognised by many.
