Page banner on mobile[edit]

Is there a way to adjust the focus so Zheng He shows instead of the left side of the image? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:41, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, see Template:Pagebanner (the "origin" parameter). Fixing this for a bunch of articles could be a good cotm, actually. —Granger (talk · contribs) 01:21, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely. It's unfortunate when a decent pagebanner is spoiled on mobile. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:23, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Going further?[edit]

W:Gavin Menzies wrote a book 1421 claiming Zheng He's fleets sailed much further, to at least California, Argentina & Australia, and that Columbus used Chinese maps obtained via trade with Egypt. I've read it & found much of it plausible, though most historians dismiss it.

Is that worth a mention? Probably not, but it seems worth asking. Pashley (talk) 02:19, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I assume it's based on the 2006 map. I'd say yes, with a note citing the historians who disagree. SelfieCity 10:46, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
How much does the article need to get into historian controversies? We're not an encyclopedia, but a travel guide. Ground Zero (talk) 11:56, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, let's not promote crackpots. —Granger (talk · contribs) 12:19, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I added text about this, removed from the Quanzhou article where it really did not belong. The addition here was reverted. Let's leave it at that. Pashley (talk) 19:16, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Zheng He's first voyage[edit]

Moved from Wikivoyage:Requested articles, in case it's still relevant:

Did this get put into this article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was working with text that had been added to the Age of Discovery article, then supplemented it from w:Zheng He. Ground Zero (talk) 10:06, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Malacca[edit]

The entry in this article says: "Zheng He's arrival in Malacca resulted in the Malacca Sultanate establishing a tributary relationship with the Ming, and also led to the first wave of Chinese immigration to the region."

However, w:Zheng He says: "When his fleet first arrived at Malacca, there was already a sizable Chinese community."

What should we do about that? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:30, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I guess we should remove the original quote from our article, or replace it with information parallel to what’s at Wikipedia. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 15:00, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about this? "Zheng He's arrival in Malacca resulted in the Malacca Sultanate establishing a tributary relationship with the Ming, and also led to one of the earliest waves of Chinese immigration to the region." Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:33, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, that aligns better with what’s said at WP. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 21:44, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
