An unregistered editor has pointed out correctly that Chiapas is not in the Yucatan Peninsula. I am proposing to rename the region to better reflect its make-up in this discussion on the Mexico talk page. Please comment there. Ground Zero (talk) 12:58, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

My issues with the current wording is that a large part of the introduction now discusses a rather trivial geographic fact that's not even covered on the Yucatan page. The fact that they are physically located in CA doesn't matter to tourist. No travel guide to Mexico describes the Yucatan and Chiapas as being part of Central America. Other transcontinental countries like Indonesia don't cover in the region summaries if they're in another continent.Gati123 (talk) 18:40, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

  • I respectfully disagree; the fact that Mexican travel guides don't mention it makes this factual info much more important to Wikivoyage. I care not for other travel guides' completeness and accuracy, but I care very much about Wikivoyage's completeness and accuracy. As a traveller, I care very much about geology and botany and zoology, and this "closeness" to Guatemala and Belize is one of the reasons I would decide to travel there. • Respectfully, Wikivoyage is not 'Ibaman's voyage'. My edits conveyed that the region has cultural differences with the rest of mexico. But the region summaries should reflect the article contents and neither the the yucatan or the chiapas articles discuss the regions of being part of CA. Again the fact that CA begins at the Isthmus of Tehuantepec isn't a settles fact either, encyclopediaa brittanica says "Geologists and physical geographers sometimes extend the northern boundary to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Mexico." Wikipedia says 'Some physiographists define the Isthmus of Tehuantepec as the northern geographic border of Central America,[7] while others use the northwestern borders of Belize and Guatemala'. If this isn't widely accepted as a fact, I don't see this being so important to the region as warranting an inclusion in a summary. It could be discussed in the region article. Gati123 (talk)
  • I don't claim and have never claimed to "own" Wikivoyage. I have the opinion that this information belongs in the region list; you have a different opinion. You and me alone are unlikely to achieve consensus. I wish other members of Wikivoyage could contribute to the discussion. However, thinking about "Mayan archaeological tourism" and "the (former?) Mayan ecosystem", I'm very sure it's valid to correlate Yucatán, Guatemala and Belize, and that correlation matters to the traveller. And, by the way, I happen to have a daytime job of an environmental protection nature, and know what I'm talking about, a matter of touristic importance, oh yes it is. Ibaman (talk) 20:02, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Should we move this to the article talk page then?
Good idea. Ibaman (talk) 21:44, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
Actually, a lot of the Understand section seems to consist of unimportant trivia that is not very relevant to the traveler. How could this be improved? ---Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:52, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
I disagree that the Understand section consists of unimportant trivia. Could you identify the specific points that you think should be removed? Ground Zero (talk) 03:06, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
I agree that it needs a rewrite and it doesn't really seem like a cohesive text. I can rewrite some but it seems like some geological and cultural facts mixed together.

The lede and "Understand"[edit]

The lede and "Understand" sections would be fine if this article were only about the Yucatán, but it's not. If anyone would like to make a stab at including the other states covered in this article, I'd be happy to look over it and proofread it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:35, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Actually, the more I look through this article, the more apparent it's a Yucatán article with a few other states appended to it and given short shrift. Look at "Talk" and "Go next", for example. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:38, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
