Outline districts - again[edit]

Swept in from the pub

There are still over 100 district articles rated "outline". I think they should not exist. Either the listings to make them "usable" should be added to them or they should be merged in some way. Once this task is done, I think we should officially make a policy that Outline Districts will be deleted after a certain time or some such... list for reference Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:07, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why, for example, Richmond is a huge city while Orlando isn't. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:09, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Because someone decided to subdivide it and went ahead. And nobody did in the other case... Hobbitschuster (talk) 18:09, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That proposal sounds reasonable to me. Districts should not be created unless there is enough content for the articles to be usable. Ground Zero (talk) 18:11, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't support deleting outline districts, however; I would instead merge outline districts to either another district article or the city itself, though the latter would require doing the same to the other districts. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about this as a general policy. If a good districtification produces six solid district articles and one that's alright but doesn't yet have any restaurant listings, I think that's tolerable (though of course it's better to add the missing listings if someone has the knowledge to do it).
For the case of Richmond, I suggested merging the districts at Talk:Richmond, but it hasn't gone anywhere. —Granger (talk · contribs) 00:37, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The problem arises when there's enough content for some districts to be usable but not enough (yet) for others. Powers (talk) 21:27, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if we should review whether the criteria for a usable district should be the same a usable city. If a district has nowhere to eat, it may just be a case of walking into the next district. A district article can be useful if it has enough listings in total. I would suggest that a district with 5 listings is usable, even if they are all see listings. For instance Brussels/European Quarter is full of useful information, has 12 see listings, but nowhere to eat - there are several places listed in Brussels/Woluwe which are a couple of minutes walk from the district boundary. On the face of it, 5 listings total in an article seem like too few to justify the existence of a separate district article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:43, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
