Strathdon has nowhere to sleep or eat or drink, and nothing to see or do particularly nearby. I propose creating a page for Ballater, which is on the main route into the Cairngorms and altogether has much more about it, and migrating content. Views? Grahamsands (talk) 17:00, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
- Ballater should have an article. It might be merged with Strathdon (in which case just add Ballater stuff to Strathdon article, then move the page to Ballater), but as they are 18 miles apart, they are near the limit of what I think is sensible to merge. Braemar also needs an article, but that will have to wait. AlasdairW (talk) 21:20, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
- Relevant Strathdon content all migrated to Ballater, and I've taken that page out of the hierarchy - typing "Strathdon" will still find it. Also formatted Traveler100's list above for readability of this section. I agree Braemar merits its own page. Grahamsands (talk) 18:18, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- If you have moved all the content from Strathdon to Ballater or elsewhere, then make Strathdon into a redirect (replace the content of the page with #REDIRECT Ballater). If not, then keep Strathdon in the list here. AlasdairW (talk) 23:06, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Stoneywood: I propose that this entire page should be deleted. There's simply nothing here. Grahamsands (talk) 22:31, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- I agree that there is "nothing to see there", but we don't delete real places. Either the page should be moved to Dyce (or Bridge of Don) or it should be merged into Aberdeen. AlasdairW (talk)
- Proposal A is indeed to migrate content to Aberdeen. My only hesitation is, if it was already there, would it be of use to the traveller and retain its place.
- Proposal B would be to create a Dyce page, the Prestwick of the East. But as current text explains, Dyce is wrong side of the airport and not a useful place to be. It's more like Kirkliston than Prestwick. Grahamsands (talk) 23:11, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- The exhibition centre is about to move to Dyce. Dyce also looks to have more places to sleep than Prestwick, and is a destination in itself for business travellers - more Edinburgh Park than Kirkliston. However it is still lacking in see and do (except the new AECC). AlasdairW (talk) 00:04, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Accordingly, I've migrated all Stoneywood content into Aberdeen - two Do, one Eat, one Sleep. If in the future Dyce gets its own page, a view would be taken on what Aberdeen content to incorporate. Could go either way with the new road pattern, Dyce might wax into a distinct centre or just merge with the city burbs. I'll leave Stoneywood till, let's say Mon 4 March for last thoughts, then re-direct.
- And be assured that tho I used the blunt word "delete" above, it was never my intention to zap any real community into a smouldering crater. Migrate, re-direct, take off county map yes . . . but to anyone who put work into that page, it might feel like deletion, so we have to be mindful of that. 14:18, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. Sorry if I read your words too literally, but I have seen such pages being discussed on VFD. I have made Stoneywood redirect to Aberdeen. AlasdairW (talk) 23:10, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Braemar was created as discussed, just to show I'm not gripped by a search-and-destroy mission. Next up:
Westhill - Thanks for the link above, I hadn't grasped the technical (and radical) implication of the word "Delete". So, what to do about Westhill? Clearly it has more to it, but it's basically a commuter district of Aberdeen not a stand-alone destination, its amenities would readily fold into the city page. (Not using the "D" word, not using the "D" word") Grahamsands (talk) 22:17, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- (LATER) Westhill was built as a page, since on further thought it is separate from the city, and there are several POIs in its countryside that don't find a home on other pages. Grahamsands (talk) 09:37, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
Banner
[edit]Offers please for a replacement banner: what's shown now is Blair Atholl in Perthshire, t'other side of the mountains. It could replace the Blair banner of Scout tents at the "Jamborette" - distinctive, but just a biennial event that won't correspond to most visitors' experience. Grahamsands (talk) 09:37, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Grahamsands Thanks for pointing this out - the error is nor clear at a clance as Aberdeenshire does have similar castles. Here are some banners which were prevously used or considered for Aberdeen. Are these good replacements, or do you have suggestings for alternatives? AlasdairW (talk) 10:26, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- I like banner 3, then I'm neutral between one and two, but I've never been here, so not sure which is the most representative. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:29, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- 3 is best photographically, but same caveat at SHB2000. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:33, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Banner 1 says Aberdeenshire, as distinct from the city. Rugged coast, castles or forested mountains do this. Grahamsands (talk) 10:46, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- My initial first choice of subject would be a castle. However most of the castles in Aberdeenshire are the wrong shape to make a good banner. Of the article banners which have castles, I think that only Stonehaven looks really good in 7:1. Coastal views dominate the remainder of article banners, except for the granite building for Aberdeen. Gardens are a feature of Aberdeen, and the grounds of some rural castles. 3 is the most appealing photo, so I think we should use it. AlasdairW (talk) 22:56, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
- I have changed the banner to 3. However I have changed the banner on WD to the banner used on Stonehaven for the benefit of other languages (Polish & Italian) which have an Aberdeenshire article without the city articles. AlasdairW (talk) 23:07, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
