Mr. 202.172.230.50, if you know of some good quality and reasonably prices places to eat on Sentosa, please do tell us about them -- all the ones I've tried were in the overpriced & tasteless category. (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:59, 25 May 2004 (EDT)

Star[edit]

An anon user misplaced the star tag and I came along and reverted the change. Apparently Mr./Mrs. Anon believes this article to be of star quality. Anyone agree with Mr./Mrs. Anon? I don't really care - that's why I'm leaving it up to you. The only reason I would've bothered to bring this up is apparently the user doesn't know where a star tag goes in the first place so I'm a little hesitant in trusting his/her judgement.

Thanks! - (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 13:42, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

See Project:Star nominations - the idea still seems to be kind of in the discussion stage, but this article might be a good test case. -- (WT-en) Ryan 13:48, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Carlsberg Sky Tower[edit]

Copied from article that has been redirected to Singapore/Sentosa. This seems overly detailed for a travelguide (ie facts about management), but I think some of it would be useful/interesting to include. Pasted for data-mining. (WT-en) Majnoona 00:33, 19 July 2006 (EDT)

Carlsberg Sky Tower is in Sentosa/Singapore.

The Carlsberg Sky Tower is Asia’s tallest observation tower and offers the highest view in Singapore at 131 metres above sea level. Is located in Sentosa and with its 360 degree view Sentosa, Singapore, the Southern islands and even the outlines of Malaysia and Indonesia can be seen.

Pagebanner[edit]

Might I recommend removing the pgname from the banner, since the name is already pretty obvious there! I did so for Chicago, and I think that looks better than having the repeated name. --Peter Talk 22:33, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time formats[edit]

May I recommend using the same time formats for all the Singapore articles?

Our main Singapore city state article has Star status and uses the universally understood, unambiguous and usually shorter 24 hour time format (as does Singapore/East Coast). --118.93nzp (talk) 01:59, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Listings outside of Sentosa island?[edit]

Sentosa has a clearly defined boundary according to Wikipedia : w:Sentosa but there are quite a few listing defined around it. Any objection to move to other articles? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:17, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I struggle to understand why someone would object. Please go ahead. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:09, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to agree, Sentosa is certainly separate from the "mainland". But then I noticed the two maps in Singapore#Districts. Apparently people who districtified Singapore decided to include southern "mainland" Singapore in the Sentosa article. ϒpsilon (talk) 09:15, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I certainly object. The article boundaries have pretty much been the same for the last ten years, and while admittedly Sentosa has changed a lot (more things to see and definitely more fees to pay), it makes sense logistically because you do have to pass through HarbourFront. Thematically the other listings also makes sense where Keppel Bay and Mount Faber are pretty much for the water views.
Where would the listings be moved to? Singapore/North and West? Which is just as ridiculous as labelling the whole eastern part of Singapore as Singapore/East Coast. Possibly a South Singapore article, but I'm not inclined until ten years from now after the port at Tanjong Pagar is moved to the west. The article could be called "Sentosa and surrounds", but then it'll still be shortened to Sentosa. Unless administrative boundaries are followed, which makes for very boring reading, I've found boundaries and naming to never be exact. -- torty3 (talk) 03:18, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is perfectly fine to define boundaries that make sense for the traveler and not aligned to a prescribed administrative area. The plain and simple question I have is whether these areas not physically on the island of Sentosa would be known in Singapore to also be Sentosa?
I don't have the answer either way, so would someone with local knowledge please comment? User:The_dog2 perhaps ? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 06:29, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Then why discount my local knowledge? :) The answer to your question is 'No'. But my point was that the areas in the article would and could be visited on the same day, and it is hard to define the area without calling it something else. Harbourfront perhaps, would be the closest term. Or even more generically, plain South. -- torty3 (talk) 06:40, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We definitely do not consider places not physically on Sentosa to be part of Sentosa. Whenever we refer to a place as being in Sentosa, it most certainly means on the island itself, and if you ask a local to direct you to Sentosa, you will almost certainly be directed to the island. And HarbourFront also does not include Sentosa. It only refers to the area on the mainland right next to Sentosa. I guess "southern Singapore" would be a fairly descriptive term for the area, though we locals generally don't use it. The dog2 (talk) 06:55, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for that torty3 , I presumed incorrectly that you were not resident there (I had associated most of your edits with Australia).
It does seem however that the basis of calling the harbour front and Mount Faber as Sentosa is not really right. I would understand if we could identify a better name for this article such as Singapore/South ? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 08:59, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It would make most sense to just rename the article. "South" sounds OK. Or "Sentosa and Harbourfront", maybe? ϒpsilon (talk) 09:17, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh don't mind me, I'm just tetchy about city district articles in general because discrete neighbourhoods are interesting to write about and then the lesser known areas have to be lumped into the same place by basis of geographical nearness since they don't merit an article on their own. It irks me that some listings in Singapore/Orchard are not actually on Orchard Road, or Singapore/Balestier being about Balestier, Newton, Novena and Toa Payoh and not just Balestier, or that only the southeastern part of Singapore is really known as Singapore/East Coast. In the end I just reconcile it with naming the article using the most prominent neighbourhood and avoiding generic cardinal directions. Which means I also prefer "Sentosa and Harbourfront" as a more accurate but clunky term. The Singapore articles as a whole also need updates again, but hey, that's a long list of things to do. -- torty3 (talk) 15:54, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say "Sentosa and Harbourfront" would be a good way to name the district. If you go to a local and ask for "South" we do not intuitively think of the area, and in any case, the CBD is also located in the South. If you ask for Harbourfront, we will know what you're talking about and where to direct you. The dog2 (talk) 18:53, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks The dog2 , torty3 , ϒpsilon , Ikan Kekek . I would move to rename this article (with corresponding redirect to Singapore/Sentosa_and_Harbourfront if no more comments by tomorrow. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:59, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

St James Power Station on static map[edit]

Can anyone update the static map and remove the St James Power Station? Per this edit by Camouflaged Mirage, it has permanently closed. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:35, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sentosa propaganda[edit]

User:Sentosa Development Corporation has added a lot of info to the article but turned into the world's blandest marketing brochure. This is going to require a lot of work to fix up... Jpatokal (talk) 09:35, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as expected, marketing staff's mindset is different than a Wikimedian... Veracious (talk) 07:31, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Phew, finally done. SDC, if you come back here, please read Wikivoyage:Tone and use Wikivoyage:Listings. Jpatokal (talk) 23:45, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
