Talk:United States national parks

[edit]
Per Talk:United States National Park System, this is now intended for only the 60 national parks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:13, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Mx. Granger: Houston, we have a problem: it appears that only 59 parks are listed. There are 60. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:58, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- I noticed that too. It seems to be one of several things that still need tidying up after the split. Right now I'm working on links from Wikipedia and Wikidata. If you can figure out which park is missing and add it, that would be awesome. If not, I'll try to track it down. —Granger (talk · contribs) 03:02, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Aha, I think I figured it out – we have a single listing for two national parks (Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks). —Granger (talk · contribs) 05:43, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, yes, good point — they're two parks but we only include one article for them. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:25, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Too many images
[edit]After the Theodore Roosevelt National Park photo, everything else is below the end of the article (most of the Grand Canyon photo and all of the others below it). There is absolutely no need to have photos of every park in an article that has links to articles about all of them except Kobuk Valley. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:03, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Indian National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries is much more copiously illustrated than normal for Wikivoyage, but note how all the images are contained within the article (at least they are on my laptop - if any are not, they should be removed). That might be a good article to emulate in this respect. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:05, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- I've removed some of the images from the article. How does it look now? —Granger (talk · contribs) 03:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- The 2 bottom images are below the end of the article on my laptop. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:44, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, I've reduced the images to regular thumbnail size. —Granger (talk · contribs) 04:20, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Now they fit (barely, but that's OK). Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:00, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- I'm probably going to expand the article in future, so that should help with getting the pictures to fit. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:09, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- It looks to me like there still are too many images in some sections, because per WV:Image policy#Minimal use of images, there should be no more than 2 images (3 at most) in a row without space between them. However, the California section is empty on my browser. We should add one photo of a park in California. I'll have a look at some candidates if no-one else does. Let's be mindful of the fires in recent years, but I don't know whether those have burned down trees in national as well as state parks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:16, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Terrible effects of the government shutdown on U.S. National Parks
[edit]Read this article. I think this merits a warningbox, because it's a threat to human health. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:55, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- Warningbox added. Edit as appropriate. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:01, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- Probably also, worth mentioning that the shutdown is unlikely to end soon if you haven't added that information already. I don't see why it would end soon, anyway; the only reason it would end is the unexpected, which means that the expected is for the shutdown to continue for some time. Probably most Americans know and have planned vacations accordingly, but I'm sure many foreigners didn't know about the shutdown, have come to the U.S. on a visit, and found some services not currently operating. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 03:21, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- I've added the usual information about when the last edit was made, so updates can be made accordingly. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 03:23, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- If we know anything about the last couple of years, it's that predictions of what the person in the White House will do are quite hazardous. I'm more comfortable not predicting anything about how short or long this nonsense will last. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:48, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Page move
[edit]I just realized I never gave a reason for the page move, but for reference, it was because of the discussion Special:PermaLink/4322020#National parks – capitalised or not? where there was consensus to decapitalize the title. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:29, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
