[edit]Nice to see it there at last. Cheers, (WT-en) Peter (Southwood) Talk 09:33, 1 January 2010 (EST)
hey just wondering why u keep changing everything in bali. i lived there for a long time and i have a first hand knowledge of local places. i dont think it is right to take charge of a whole place like that. WIKI should be based on popular opinion not on one persons experience. user ip 82.215.29.24

- I have looked at your edits, which I guess you refer to? In which case:
- http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Ubud&diff=prev&oldid=1425069. When a place is closed, it should be deleted. You also wrote in capital letters and spelled two words incorrectly.
- http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Ubud&diff=prev&oldid=1425074. Did not really add anything to what was there already, other than what was kept. The grammar was also poor.
- http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Ubud&diff=prev&oldid=1425071. Everything you said is still there; I just corrected poor grammar and mis-spellings.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 19:48, 3 April 2010 (EDT)

Pemba
[edit]Dear Sir, My most humble applogies should I have offended anybody. I have very little experience in your world and fully appreciate your guidance.
Pemba Dive & Bush Camp was developed on request by travellers and has provided a service that has been which are the following: PEACE & QUIET: No traffic, no loud music, no loud noises till early hours of the morning. SAFETY: (I have received clients robbed with broken bones)We have a clean history. ACTIVITIES: - The last fourteen years travellers complained there is nothing to do. The Dive Lodge is offering 15 activities for free. BUDGET: free coffe/tea, ativities, service. ORIANTATION: Put detailed information on the web. A notice board is up with different Islands, venues and sightseeing locations. SOLLUTIONS: Often we receive tourists with problems who are not our clients that have been in a tight spot or robbed and we have solved all problems, because of the conservation and community service we have given in Pemba. My husband was born in Pemba.
The traveller now has a CHOICE with the two camping locations and we do complement each other very well and neither are the best. Overlander rate the camp site "Excellant". Kingley Holgate quoted "The best Base Camp in the Southern Hemisphere" The two above had a choice where they wanted to stay! The community with pride have rated "El Pirate" kite boarding and "Pemba Dive & Bush Camp" the two best places in Pemba. Pemba has a bad reputation of being very expensive and we have accommodated this.
Does a new lodge that has just been developed according to the popular requests of travellers gets throwen out, without an explination or email. I understand you are over whelmed with so many emails fully appriciate your time. What do you recommend tourism would like to read. Thank you. Happy New Year to you and keep up your great work. Kind regards

Sub-regionalising Cambodia
[edit]You asked me about Sub-regionalising Cambodia. - (WT-en) Huttite 05:58, 3 January 2010 (EST)
- Hi there. I am wondering why you have inserted a sub-regional level into Eastern Cambodia? I am very sure that the country does not require this extra level, and if you think it does, would it not be best to discuss on the country talk page first? If you look at the regionlist table on the country page it is clear that it goes Cambodia -> Region -> City/OD. The provinces are listed in each regional article to avoid any confusion. Also at Eastern Cambodia you have wikilinked the provinces to existing city articles. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:59, 3 January 2010 (EST)
My reply is:
- I noted that you reverted the edit of User:(WT-en) Killersnack who attempted to place Sen Monorom into the Cambodia city listings, without then attempting to relocate the new, and now orphaned, article into a better location. Nor did you personally explain to User:(WT-en) Killersnack what was wrong. Another administrator later reverted a second edit by that user to the Cambodia page. To me it seems the Cambodia page is now closed to new cities and the regions now need to be built out upon.
- With Eastern Cambodia, I merely to linked to the names given to the regions, if the cities have the same names as their provinces then there should be a disambiguation page or something else mentioned there to indicate that there is ambiguousness. In any case, I suspect from your comments that you have no desire to build out those provinces at this time. I built out the province for Sen Monorom so that the breadcrumb listing would display correctly and because I perceived the place might not find a home anywhere else.
- Lastly, Project:Plunge forward means there is no need to ask permission first, only forgivness afterwards. Sorry if I have upset your country scheme but there was nothing mentioned on Talk:Eastern Cambodia about why the regions were not wikilinked and I had thought it would help travelers to wikilink them. I had understood that this was also the implication of the Project:Geographical hierarchy.
- Essentially because Sen Monorom exists as valid article, Mondulkiri and the other provinces also need to exist as articles if you are going to limit the number of cities in Cambodia, and its regions, to 9. Otherwise, where can they be placed? - (WT-en) Huttite 05:49, 3 January 2010 (EST)
- First, I really did not say that permission is needed to do anything! Rather, I inquired as to why you thought another regional level was required. I do think (and this is backed up by normal practice here) that regionalisation of a country should be discussed and fully understood before structural changes are made.
- My fault with Sen Monorom - it should have been added to the city list at Eastern Cambodia when I removed it from the 9 (that is not a limit I impose by the way - it is Wikivoyage policy). Apologies for that. I did leave a comment with the edit as to why it was reverted. It is simply impossible to inform each user why their edit has been reverted but I do often leave a comment in the edit history.
- There may be a time when we have too many cities for the four Cambodia region articles, but we are far from that at the moment. If further regionalised, Eastern Cambodia for example, would have four provincial articles with only four cities between them! Sen Monorom's correct home in the structure is as part of Eastern Cambodia. The other reason not to do this based simpy on Provincies is that the provinces are split in some cases. For example, you will see if you look closely that Kratie province to the east of the Mekong River is in Eastern Cambodia and to the west of the river it is in Mekong Lowlands and Central Plains. Sometimes geography is much much appropriate than political lines when regionalising.
- The other place to put any cities which you fear will be orphaned is into the country regionlist table itself. You will see that there is a slot there for each city in each region. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:11, 3 January 2010 (EST)
Persistent touts
[edit]Regarding your comment about a consistent extlink violation, if it is excessive don't be afraid to put them on the blacklist, but be sure to leave a comment on Project:Local spam blacklist so that there is a pointer as to why the link was added. In the past this has been a very effective way of getting someone's attention, and it's easy enough to remove them once they agree to abide by the site policies. Also, I've yet to notice you taking advantage of your new "rollback" button - if an edit can be reverted with the need for comment (such as obvious vandalism) it's a handy tool and a bit quicker than the "undo" button :) -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 21:35, 4 January 2010 (EST)
- Re: your comments on my talk page, you're all good with how you seem to be using the blacklist - some people never use it, some people use it rarely, some people may use it too much (sadly I may be guilty of this...), and other people just aren't comfortable with it so they choose to let others handle it. As to rollbacks, the two main advantages of "rollback" over "undo" is that "rollback" removes all consecutive contributions from a user (undo is one-at-a-time), and it also saves a screen - changes are reverted immediately, while "undo" takes you to the edit screen first. Otherwise you're right that "undo" is very similar. Cheers! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 21:53, 4 January 2010 (EST)

Arusha
[edit]Hi - Why did you delete Safari Care from the Arusha page ? It doesn't seem any different from the other safari companies listed there. I don't have any connection to them, I'm just wondering/making sure my understanding of WT's guidelines is consistent. Thanks. - (WT-en) Alingelb 13:54, 6 January 2010 (EST)
- Thanks for your response. I took a look at Safari Care's site, and in fact they do have a local address. So, I added them back, and put the other listings in tags, and removed one that did not appear to have a local address. My thinking is: these companies fit the criteria (local address, probably adding value), seem to have it together as they have decent web sites, and most importantly, as a visitor, I would probably want to know about them. If you disagree I certainly defer to your expertise - just undo my edit and I won't bother the page again. - (WT-en) Alingelb 17:57, 7 January 2010 (EST)

Dear Sir, can you please explain why some links are deleted and others not? And if there is a payment link? Because I do not see another reason.Link to charter companies you leave but link to camp site you erase. I'm talking about page http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Croatia#Sleep.
Can you please answer my? I'm very interested for this.
Thank you for all information. I will tray put information about camping like you tell my. I will send to you information about this.

[edit]I got it from a forum site, posted by someone, I don't know if it has rights or not but it was publicly posted in that forum; , scroll down and you'll see it. You can feel free to delete it if you want to :) there are other pics that I have picked from google, that I think don't have rights due to no labels written on it. You can delete those pics if you want to, i don't really mind. The two pics in the DO SECTION other than Bacollywood is taken from the website of Provincial government sites of Bacolod and Neg. Occ. Patrolling
[edit]Hi Burmeseday. First, I hope you had a good start in the new year and had some time to relax! I have seen that you also patrol quite often Recent changes. Could you please always use either undo, rollback or write hard remove with the user ID in the text? Ryan and myself started to systematically block user id's that are frequently used by spammers, vandals etc.? It has an effect as some IP number ranges seem to be more often spammers than others. Thanks and best regards from snowy Zurich (WT-en) jan 10:39, 14 January 2010 (EST)

Lembar
[edit]Hi Burmesedays. I honestly do not understand why you keep moving the information about getting FROM Lembar Harbour. This is all specific information about leaving Lembar for other destinations. As what I understand information about getting FROM Lembar should be under GET OUT; information about getting TO Lembar should be under GET IN. Am I missing the point?
question about Yekaterinburg page

I see, that this page already contains info about other agencies, that's why it's unclear to me. And tell me please if I can add this information using listings. Beijing embassy section formatting
[edit]Hi Burmesedays! The embassy section for Beijing is displayed in a really akward way, at least in my browser. But I saw you’ve undone my changes, so I suppose you want to keep that kind of table markup. Should something like “| style="vertical-align:top;width:50%;" |” be added then? I saw that in other embassy sections (Copenhagen, London,…). Thanks!
Delayed!

Good Work on those maps! However I noticed a small mistake on your map from Lao PDR, the place in the upper right should be Nong Kiau not 'Nong Thiaw'
- Many thanks for that. Sometimes you look at a map so closely you are almost blind to it. I will change. The spelling used at WT is actually Nong Khiaw. Thanks again. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:59, 25 January 2010 (EST)

Roll 'em..
[edit]This edit , which you rolled back seemed to be in good faith (and a bit of work) to me. Maybe a bit harsh? --(WT-en) inas 21:11, 1 February 2010 (EST)
- On reflection, you are probably right. I have reverted and will go through and copy edit instead. Thanks for that. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:24, 1 February 2010 (EST)
- I think the general procedure is for a good faith edit that needs to be undone, is that it is undone and not rolled back, so an informative edit note can be left as to why the edit had to go. Rollbacks are generally just used for vandalism, etc, or repeated spam, etc. See Project:Administrator's handbook#Rollbacks. Personally, I think we should make a special effort to make a new editor making changes in good faith feel welcome, though.
- I also noticed that commented that you blocked an ip for repeated vandalism for 1 momth. Any blocks (except spambots) for a substantial period of time need be discussed at Project:User ban nominations, see Project:How to handle unwanted edits, unless they are a spambot. --(WT-en) inas 06:10, 2 February 2010 (EST)

122.169
[edit]Regarding this guy, I'd advise to just revert everything and otherwise ignore him. We get tons of hotel spam from that ip range, which is associated with some marketing firm. I have successfully in the past made contact with this type of marketer, and got him to "reform" and do a better job with the listings, but ultimately what was the benefit? We got a ton of barely acceptable listings all at the behest of whoever pays marketers to spam our pages, and it wasted a ton of other users' time to monitor and clean up. So, best to just revert on sight when you see a hotel tout doing these sorts of mass spammings across multiple pages. Also, for a laugh, see User:(WT-en) Peterfitzgerald/Touts. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 12:25, 3 February 2010 (EST)
- Yeah I know it is all probably a waste of time. It is an Indian company, either an SEO consultant or marketeer. I will continue to block this IP everytime I see it, as I spent a huge amount of time reverting their edits. There may even be a case here for banning the specific IPs. I know this is generally thought to be a waste of time, but when looking at these 122.169 IPs, they seem to be fixed. A ban would at least mean that this company cannot post to WT using their corporate ISP. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:38, 3 February 2010 (EST)

[edit]I see that you reverted my reversion on the Perth page. I initialy reverted this edit because the info ("Watch out for lesbian mud wrestling after 2am on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning.") is not only wrong, its a somewhat offensive/homophobic. Manchester
[edit]Can I ask why my entry for Roomzzz Manchester was deleted by yourself? I can see nothing wrong with the entry that I wrote, and complied with everything Wiki asks for
- First, can you please open a Wikivoyage account if you wish to communicate with other users. I should be leaving this message on your talk page, but as you do not have an acocunt, nor did you sign your name above, then that is not possible. I assume you are anonymous user 194.116.198.179 who placed the listing for Roomzzz at Manchester.
- The listing was deleted as you wrote an advertisement. This is not a free advertising board, and all listings, hotels and otherwise should be written in an objective, factual manner. Please read about our policies on touting and using flowery language, and you will see what I mean. After reading and understanding those pages, by all means re-write the listing using acceptable language and place it again. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:00, 5 March 2010 (EST)

Recently, I reverted two new listings for apartments as they linked to an agent's homepage but did not mention any adress or phone. The listings were reinserted by the original contributor and you made a small change. I guess this means that you have patrolled the new listings and find them ok. - I have been really fierce on apartment agents and even suggested that they should all be disallowed at Wikivoyage. But this seems like a decent listing from an owner. The address is there which is usually the problem, but there is no phone number. For that reason it could be deleted. Given the amount of apartment agents that we allow to list here though (just because they have an alleged address and telephone contact), I would be a bit lenient on a listing like this. It is well written and from a genuine owner I think. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:58, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
- ok, and you have noticed that the link is to ?, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 08:28, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
- Yup I saw that. It seems like these folks run a tour company and rent a couple of apartments. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:31, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
Well guys, I am the owner of the Blue Monkey in PM. I'm not sure how you decided that I was an "agent" — the property has and always had a real life address (addresses in Latin America are a bit less specific than Europe or North America)— but your assumption was wrong. I wrote a note on the talk/discussion page of PM pointing out that the deletion policy as I read it suggests putting the objection to an "offending" property on the talk page and reaching a consensus with other Wikis before deleting. The arbitrary deletion of my listings was a disappointment as someone who is no longer online had taken them off in January for no good reason — and I didn't find out until last week. You both obviously take your roles seriously but getting it incorrect like you did has real-world consequences. Deleting a valid listing can result in a very real loss of income for the owner and the loss of an opportunity for a Wikitourist to stay in very nice place at a reasonable rate.
- Bruce, first read the above discussion again. Where did I say you were an agent? Quite the opposite; I make a case for keeping your apartment listings as I believed you were an owner, despite the deletion being quite valid and according to policy as you did not provide phone numbers.
- The concensus issue you raise relates to other competing business owners, not patrolling Wikivoyage users.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:45, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
Yes you're right, you did come to my defense. I injudiciously posted my comments on your page because Claus mentioned he deleted it. Just for my information, where are phone numbers required for a post in Wiki policy? I can't find that rule anywhere.
- It is defined here but it probably should be made clearer that this applies to all apartment lettings, not just those handled by agents, as it is on the corresponding talk page. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:05, 28 March 2010 (EDT)
Vienna Apartments - infobox
[edit]The infobox is a very unobjective presentation of the situation and it generally advises to avoid vacation apartments, there are many honest apartments, I urgently ask for an objective presentation! It is not correct that most apartments are not operated 100% legally (where is the proof?!) It IS good to find independent review though. Where is the proof that they are used by sepculators and are of low quality and that they play a role in gentrification? (give sources!) There are hundreds of apartments in Vienna that are operated 100% legally and morally - so this infobox is a vilification of these "good" apartment owners!
- I will re-write it a little and place in the text, not as an infobox. But this should really be discussed at Talk:Vienna. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 06:51, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
Hi! Just saw that you reverted your own deletion for watersports in Phuket. I strongly suggest we delete it or otherwise we will end up as the Phuket yellow pages next week ;-) It will be hard to deny other their entry. (WT-en) jan 11:19, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah I changed my mind. However, there are so many yacht charter companies in Thailand, it might be best if none were shown. So please go ahead and remove :). --(WT-en) Burmesedays 11:26, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
- I removed it. BTW: Dublin has no map and would really need one ;-) (WT-en) jan 11:47, 29 March 2010 (EDT)

[edit]Hi! I have seen that you combat the SEO's that currently flood our articles. I regularly use http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.aspx to see who is behind an IP adress. It's easy to use and in most cases you find easily to which spammer/SEO the adress belong. The guy you currently combat is from the Indian company Directi Internet Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and have a seperate section for Wikis on their page. (WT-en) jan 07:24, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks jan. That's a useful resource and I have been using something similar. A number of the SEO spamming companies who operate here are Indian. Soon of course they will all be wasting their time as all WT links will be marked no follow. Out of interest by the way, I have had good success by emailing UK-based SEO consultants who offend like this - one of them stopped altogether and two became contributors of good listings. If the company is reasonable they will co-operate. I tried with one Indian company though and not even a reply. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 08:48, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
Amityville
[edit]Hi, Burmesedays. Why did you remove what looked to be pretty decent summaries of how to Get In and Get Around and Buy things in Amityville? (WT-en) LtPowers 16:19, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
- That's clearly a mistake by me. The Get in and Get around sections should have stayed when I cleared out the education stuff and restored section headings, tags etc. I will stick them back right now.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:38, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
Perth Districts map
[edit]Thanks for your offer to help with the districtifying of Perth. I have put an image on the talk page for you to consider. (WT-en) Cardboardbird 08:16, 12 April 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks for your support in my plunging on this. Would you be so kind as to upload the SVG of your existing Perth map so that I may build upon it? - (WT-en) Cardboardbird 04:04, 9 June 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks for uploading your map. - (WT-en) Cardboardbird 20:25, 10 June 2010 (EDT)
Manaslu
[edit]What?? What you also propose merging Everest information into the Alps? Manaslu and Annapurna are DIFFERENT locations mate.80.3.26.54 14:17, 13 April 2010 (EDT)
- As a general point, being constructive when trying to sort out an issue pays more dividends than pointless sarcasm. But that aside, if you look at the Wikivoyage definition of Annapurna (a region, not just the mountain), I think Manaslu is very close, if not inside that region?. I was not sure though, which is why I suggested in the edit note (you can only put one potential merge destination in the merge template) an alternative of Himalayas (Nepal). Given that Wikivoyage does not typically have articles about mountains, if you know the Manaslu trek well, please do go ahead and write about it in the appropriate article. Thanks. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:19, 13 April 2010 (EDT)
thank you for your attention
[edit]we are working on shkoder on openstreetmap, you removed the link. also those poi are being added to the list. I think we should have them, I will update them as we go along. people can also google for them and you find results. thank you mike
- Hi Mike. I have explained that Wikivoyage does not link to map sites, OSM or otherwise, on your talk page. Good luck with your project.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:22, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
- Why not? It has a compatible license, we should be working together, here is what I found so far on these pois. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/AlbanianFloodingCrisisCamp#POI_Key
- I (and others) use OSM data all the time to produce Wikivoyage maps. If you look at (WT-en) my catalogue of Wikivoyage maps, many of them use OSM base data. If you think though that Wikivoyage should link straight to OSM sub-projects or OSM user pages, then I suggest you bring it up for wider discussion in the pub. At the moment, policy is not to link to map sites, as per the link I provided on your talk page.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:13, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
I have read all of this, and everything indicates that links to the openstreetmap wiki and site are ok. please put my links back. thank you mike
- I suggest you read again, as that reply must have been made before my latest edit above.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:14, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
- OK, From my reading, wikipedia articles are allow, and OSM is not allowed because it is a mapping site? I understand now. That is a real shame, but I will have to accept it.
(WT-en) H4ck3rm1k3 17:42, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
- You can link to WP articles, but only in this format—no secondary source links of any kind are permitted in the articles themselves.
- It would be nice, though, to get mapstraction to work with OSM instead, and to do anything else we can to help promote their site. OSM has proved invaluable as a resource for us. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:20, 19 April 2010 (EDT)

Georgia
[edit]I realize this may be more U.S. parochialism, but I don't agree with moving Georgia (country) to Georgia. At the very least, I would like to see some discussion of it before making that move. (WT-en) LtPowers 09:06, 23 April 2010 (EDT)
- A country surely takes priority over a state? I suggest you discuss at Talk:Georgia.
Hi! I saw that you will take care of the map for Abkhazia. Peter and I "adopted" the article a bit because it attracts significant political attention (especially during the rather continious Georgian-Russian exchange of unfriendly encounters...). The location map in the top right corner was introduced by the Abkhazian foreign ministry and it would be perfect if you could do an unbiased version that reflects the current undecided international position on that. I will follow the discussion closely because i bet my hat that we will get destructive comments once someone starts to touch it... (WT-en) jan 09:13, 23 April 2010 (EDT)
- Actually, would you mind terribly if I did Abkhazia? I'd enjoy because of my background in that region. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 09:41, 23 April 2010 (EDT)
- Not at all! It is in fact nearly done (using the UN map PDF paths...). I will upload right now to image:Abkhazia Regions map.svg. Please use this if you wish.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:38, 23 April 2010 (EDT)
Guatemala
[edit]Guatemala needs serious help mate. It needs re-organizing. I'm not sure about the other destinations list, volcanoes, ruins etc. -SnappyHip 03:12, 25 April 2010 (GST)
- Yep, the article is long overdue for some attention. Most of this is related to regionalisation and I have reopened that discussion. Cheers.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:07, 25 April 2010 (EDT)
Hi - I noticed you have been giving some feedback to User:(WT-en) Lturner about their map at [[Sydney/City East[[. Although the map is nice enough, I'm not sure that we have any precedent for having a region type map in a "lowest level" destination guide. I've started a discussion on the talk page for the article, and as always I would value your opinion. --(WT-en) inas 19:05, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
Bougainville
[edit]Sure, using a single article for small islands is pretty standard. We usually use a small city article template for such cases, but if you think a region article template would fit better, give it a try! I'll take a look at Guatemala once I get a chance. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 08:04, 1 May 2010 (EDT)
- The only real top level articles are the continent articles. If an article has no articles below it in the hierarchy, it is indeed bottom, even as big as Bougainville is.
- I suppose we don't really have a precedent for an island of this size with so few total travel amenities (i.e., listings). I'd be inclined to avoid anything looking like listings in a region article (to avoid confusion about how to write non-bottom-level regions), so perhaps get rid of the cities section and roll that information into an "orientation" subsection of "understand?" Feel free to experiment, though, since you'll be paving new ground. I'll follow along—curious to see how this develops! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:03, 1 May 2010 (EDT)
- I used listings here, but maybe this (as of yet unfinished) guide could provide some inspiration. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 02:45, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks Peter and Stefan,. I will crack on and see how it pans out. I quite like the idea of losing the obvious region template elements (i.e. Cities and OD sections) and using an Orientation section for that information. That will certainly make it look less like an non-standard region article and setting a precedent for that (which was my main concern).--(WT-en) Burmesedays 03:26, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
Bosnia
[edit]Unfortunately I don't have this map yet, been virtually broke these past while, but now that I'm back to a normal secure job in the relatively well paying insurance industry (even travel related too :o) ) I plan on spending my first salary getting my PC repaired next month, no guarantee I can save the old files though. In any case feel free to use it as a base for a new image. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 11:18, 1 May 2010 (EDT)
- The very best of luck with that Stefan. I will try to get around to the B&H map soon. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:04, 1 May 2010 (EDT)
Bohol
[edit]Can you check the Bohol article? I think it's somewhat copied from somewhere, in the Dosection it says (Quoted from "Your Guide to Bohol" by Sanchez-Bronce, Loop and Carpentier) and like can hotels be listed in the sleep section in a region article? -- (WT-en) SnappyHip 21:42, 2 May 2010 (GST)
Guatemala
[edit]From what I can see, it looks like you and Vidimian did a painstaking and rather bang-up job on that clean up/regioning! What were the two outstanding questions? It looked like one was whether to go with the name Izabal or Caribbean Guatemala? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:23, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
coup of tea
[edit]Hi! I remember that we discussed tea and coffee qualities during the CotM for London. I will be in London next week and just recognised that my favourite tea shop has ceased it's business in Covent garden. Do you have a tip for quality tea shop? Thank you very much in advance and have a relaxing weekend, (WT-en) jan 11:47, 7 May 2010 (EDT)

Bougainville and other islands
[edit]I think your approach makes a lot of sense. Despite some objections that is what we have done for Tongatapu and Vava'u, just having one regional article without listing the main city(ies) separately. (WT-en) Shep 13:46, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
- p.s. I upgraded Bougainville to usable. (WT-en) Shep 13:50, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
Re: A copyright question
[edit]A quick search turns up little information on copyright in Papua New Guinea. I'm under the impression that the U.S. is fairly unique in releasing federal government works into the public domain, so it's not safe to assume that for any other government in the world. Absent a copyright notice, we have to assume copyright. That said, there are a few maps in wikipedia:commons:Category:Maps of Bougainville; are none of them suitable? (WT-en) LtPowers 15:31, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
- I know this is already resolved, but I wanted to point out that that website offered a government email as point of contact—were you still pursuing this angle, I would bet they would be amenable to a request to license it under CC-by-SA. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 20:26, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
- I tried that more than a week ago.... no reply :). I somehow doubt the efficiency of civil servants in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, and indeed the likelihood of an email actually reaching anybody. :). An email to Bougainville Adventure Tours requesting a cc by-SA release of some of their images sent at the same time, received a a same day positive response.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 20:31, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
You know, I didn't even look that closely at the maps on Commons, but the UN map you mentioned appears to be the source of the one used on the the tourism web site you linked. (WT-en) LtPowers 21:48, 7 May 2010 (EDT)
- Yep, absolutely sure it is. I did not even check for a UN map as I thought they had country maps only. This one is a significant exception to that, and I guess due to the civil war.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 23:01, 8 May 2010 (EDT)
Hi Burmesedays. Could you please revert all the edits made by this anon user to Crimea article (i.e. back to this version), they are all perfect examples of vandalism. Intermediate edits doesn't let me undo them one by one and you seem to be only admin online at the moment (as far as I can see from recent changes). – (WT-en) Vidimian 07:45, 14 May 2010 (EDT)

Tanjung-lombok first draft of new article posting on Tanjung discussion page
[edit]Hi and thanks for the encouragement on the Tanjung article. if PLN does not switch the power off on me again I will go ahead and put the Tangung draft up on the talk page in a minute and unless it looks really out of whack I will move it across to the main article page after a bit of a look over. You may like to run your eyes over it. Hope some other may like to help out once it is up and by all means take care of Oberoi, I have only laid in the basics at this point. [edit]Hi! Lately the same jerks market their business in Nusa Lembogan and it is pretty time consuming to revert them. I suggest toblacklist them. Nanuk especially constantly violates our policies. senggigi edits
[edit]Hi Burmesedays, good work on tidying up my recent work on the accom listings. As you may have noticed I came back to them tonight and started going through cleaning them up and then noticed you were doing the same. Could you also look over the Tangung article as I am hoping it is fir for use now. Your fresh eye could possibly be well applied to that as well.(WT-en) felix 12:17, 23 May 2010 (EDT)
- I am off to bed, but quickly on two points:
- Jl for Jalan is quite well established. See the three Bali star articles for example (the only Indonesian stars), and a short discussion here Talk:Indonesia#Jalan, where I think Jani was dead right: Jalan in prose (especially first time in an article) and Jl in listings.
- Qunci is a problem. We have a hard and fast rule here than one business can list only one time. In this case I can see why two listings would be justified, but that is a rule which has served WT so well, I am sure it will not get bent! So they will need to have two different names - I leave that to your creativity... could both start with Qunci. Alternatively, the villas could be included with the main hotel listing. Honestly, I did not realise the Qunci entries were new. If I had, I would have discussed with you first...sorry about that. (ps.. I don't use Speedy - terrible - and yep I will have a squint at Tanjung tomorrow.) Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:36, 23 May 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks for the reply and the tips on Jalan-Jl., I have left a response on my talk page.(WT-en) felix 13

- I went through and cleaned up some more stuff late last night including the Jalan-Jl. USDXX, and did some more tidying up of a few artefacts left over from some of the much older content. Hopefully the villa problem is fixed now. Let me know what you think of the appropriateness of the rework of that listing now.
Gunung Rinjani erupting
[edit]Hi Burmese days. Looks like my gut feeling on Rinjani was correct as it has been erupting with ash and small lava flows since saturday. Hence my earlier editing the page with the official alerts and advisories. I think we should consider putting back some of the info again with content updated to today. My information at the time was that the trekking and guide outfits were completely ignoring the advisories and taking people to the summit, the hot springs and the lake. Well they might be getting into some hot water or something even more exciting soon. I think we should have a think about the warning panel or the Current activity section I was proposing. Your suggestion of the warning panel is good but may be unnecessarily frightening to some at this time, where as a Current activity section may be more appropriate at this time and a panel if things really heat up (sorry could note resist that). I will look into the official reports in the next hour or so PLN permitting (already off 5 times today). FYI ...Also posted this not to the Rinjani talk page(WT-en) felix 00:56, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- Burmesedays help me out on the Rinjani page matter.
I originally did this to set up a re-direction as I kept on inadvertently typing Ringani instead of including Mount as a prefix. I assume there are others out there as vague as I am so I thoiught I would do a redirect. Having no idea how to do this I failed and so did a basic page with a understand section and links to Mount Rinjani Please help me out with this and let me know what is the appropriate way of handling this.
- ah...thats what I was trying to do. Much better.(WT-en) felix 03:02, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
PNG Status
[edit]Oh well, "usable" as presently described doesn't seem too relevant to countries anyway, as it talks about having good listings, and these are not supposed to be part of country articles. What progress with the map? (WT-en) Shep 01:18, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- "Usable" is perfectly relevant to countries; you just have to look in the right place: Project:Country guide status. A "usable" country article: "Has links to the country's major cities and other destinations (usable status or better), a valid regional structure, and a Get in section describing all of the typical ways to get there. Information about the country's currency, language, cuisine, and culture is included. At least the most prominent attraction is identified with directions." (WT-en) LtPowers 09:05, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- Yep. I had explained that to Shep on his talk page.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:56, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks. I'm learning all the time. I had not realised that there were different categories of usable. By the way, if you think 110 is a lot take a look at . Quite where they find 300 countries from is not clear to me; I suspect that their idea of visiting a country is to fly in one day and fly out the next. (WT-en) Shep 01:35, 25 May 2010 (EDT)
- Hey, I have just spent the last two weeks trying to upgrade PNG regions and cities, and then you bump PNG back down to Outline. Very demotivating :-). Anyway, I feel I have gone just about as far as I can go now: I've exhausted my personal knowledge and there is not too much that is reliable out there on the web. Any suggestions? (WT-en) Shep 01:17, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
- I thought you would have put it back to outline after the usablecountry status was explained previously. All the 9 listed cities and OD's must be usable as well before a country reaches that status. I think you have done excellent work on the PNG articles and would not feel at demotivated if I were you :). --(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:25, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
I'm not happy with Huon Gulf as a PNG region. Can I change it to Morobe? Perhaps try merging with Madang (region)? (WT-en) Shep 11:25, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
- Nor am I, hence the long discussion about regions on the talk page. You will see I suggested Madang-Morobe. But that discussion seems to have hit stalemate with radically opposed views. Until that is resolved we should not really be changing any existing regions.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 11:39, 6 June 2010 (EDT)
- I just put some content inHuon Gulf. Seems to me to be totally daft to say " Huon Gulf is Morobe province". Why not just rename it? (WT-en) Shep 16:41, 7 June 2010 (EDT)
Sengiggi seems to have had a relapse
[edit]Hi I think the eruptions at rinjani a couple of nights ago have caused a seismic disturbance and Tangung has found it's way back into the Senggigi article again. I thought this had been clarified as a serious misunderstanding of both geography, regions and distance some time ago. Its back... good heavens I have even done an article on Tanjung in an effort to esure clarity in the matter and we ended up doing a restructure on all of lombok creating the new region structure.
"The Senggigi region can be broadly divided into four areas: far northern Tanjung, north Mangsit Beach, central Senggigi and the southern stretch near Batu Bolong. All four lie along the same two-lane coastal road, and the exact boundaries of each areas are rather ill-defined. One section bleeds into another. Pockets of development can be found...
...Lombok's post-2000 misfortunes hit Senggigi hard, with many developments halted and businesses closed and boarded up. Things are starting to improve again, with a few new villas going up, shops re-opening and attracting more tourist who seek the solitude and unspoiled scenery of Lombok."
You might want to have a look. I am a bit distracted at the minute but it needs to be fixed up.(WT-en) felix 10:51, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- I see that Jani did a blanket restore which was probably not quite right. There is a lot of good information there though that was lost until the restore. I will give it a once over.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:58, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
- I gave it a further work up last night as I managed to have both PLN and speedy working for a few hours so I developed that section a bit more. Hopefully no one will put tanjung back into senggigi again(WT-en) felix 07:43, 25 May 2010 (EDT)

We nearly have 100,000 unique daily visitors, and we had over 2 million contributions last year, from over 45,000 registered users and countless more anonymous ones, there are hundreds of websites and iPhone apps reusing our content. So maybe, just maybe, we might be doing something right.
- So, once again I suggest you read all the previous advice that has been patiently provided for you and you will see why your latest edits to China were reverted - they added very little to the previous version bar bad spelling and grammar. The Wikivoyage status quo bias therefore applies, which has been throughly explained to you previously. However, after your 2nd restore, I did take the trouble to personally re-write your comments which now make some sense.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:17, 1 June 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks so much for your minor but magical edit on the article. By changing one or two conjuctions and a few prepositions, you made the nonsense section become something that makes sense now and saved it from your undo. Next time when undo any contribution and replace updated information with outdated one, better count how many minor changes is needed. --60.48.164.102 09:57, 1 June 2010 (EDT)
- Frankly, that prose added so little, the 8 minutes of my time it took to edit it was unwarranted. The desired effect was to shut you up. That clearly did not work as you continue to make supercilious comments on my talk page. More fool me for trying to help.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:58, 1 June 2010 (EDT)
Listing more than one
[edit]Hi Burmesedays,
I have to disagree with you about you removed my contribution under pattaya section. I'm just trying to highlight other stuff which people can do in Pattaya. Other businesses like Apex or Tony were also being listed more than one, and don't get deleted. Please clarify why is that so? Thank you. —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) Ekachart (talk • contribs)
- Hi there. I see that another administrator has really dealt with this point on your talk page. If other businesses have multiple lisitgns at Pattaya, then those too should be deleted I will have a look at that and thanks for the flag.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 11:36, 1 June 2010 (EDT)
/* Downtown Jacksonville */
[edit]Where would you put safety/crime stats?
- Shootouts and other violent crime can be seen most anywhere in Jacksonville as the city leads Florida in per capita crime . To see the latest happenings in murder and mayhem check the Times-Union website . Indeed Jacksonville has a neighborhood just off I-95 which is in contention for the US's worst neighborhood, currently it's a #4 (your chances of being a victim of a violent crime are just 1 in 5 over the course of a year) Want statistics, have a look at the jail log for the last 31 days
- Hi! We usually don't feature crime statistics because we are not Wikipedia that use references to anything. We have an external links policy and from my lenghty experience from writing stay safe section i suggest you:
Write the facts in regular prose e.g. Jacksonville is known in Florida for it's high crime rate. xyz (name the district or disribe the area) neighborhood at I-95 is ranking in the top10 crime ridden areas of the USA. So better avoid xyz during day and night and use common sense in the rest of the city Keep in mind that Jacksonville needs to be seen in comparison with other cities in the world. I guess that people from Port_Moresby#Stay_safe, Kabul or Haiti would prefer to live in Jacksonville compared to their current hometown ;-) (WT-en) jan 10:42, 1 June 2010 (EDT)
looks like hijacking mischief is occurring on both Rinjani and Senggigi pages by an ip 202.70.58.115
[edit]On 14:29, 31 May 2010 ( 202.70.58.115 ) made some alterations to [Rinjani] (→Guides and trekking agencies) Rinjani trekking club details were changed giving a different URL, address and contact details:
I note your recent edit of contact details for Rinjani trekking Club by ip 202.70.58.115 on the [Rinjani} page. This person has also been active on the [Senggigi] page leading to a very quick -undo- by Jc8136. This iindividual seems to have quite a lot of activity racked up on pages with lombok tourism content. The person appears to represent <http://www.lombokholidaytour.com> and often uses the name <Adietya>
I have provided fuller detail on my talk page, thanks(WT-en) felix 09:35, 2 June 2010 (EDT)
- Well spotted felix. I shall leave that in your capable hands.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:44, 2 June 2010 (EDT)
- OK it's done, hope you are keeping well (WT-en) felix 10:42, 2 June 2010 (EDT)
Dindigul
[edit]Hi Burmesedays,
I would like to know why you removed the restaurant list from this page. This helps people who visit dindigul to have a choice of restaurants to eat.. Can I add them back in the page?
Thanks (WT-en) Kbala1055 04:00, 4 June 2010 (EDT)
- Sure, you can but please note the following:
- Please do not write in capital letters. This is seen as SHOUTING.
- Please try to give more information than just a name and address if you can.
- A good restaurant listing would look something like this example:
- <eat name="Sardine" alt="" address="Jl Petitenget 21" directions="northern end of Jl Petitenget, almost opposite Metis" phone="+62 361 738202" email="" fax="" url="http://www.sardinebali.com" hours="closed Mondays" price="Mains Rp 100,000 to 150,0000">A recent and successful addition to Seminyak's chic dining scene. Specialise in fish and other seafood prepared with a Mediterranean ethic. Intimate restaurant with an innovative all bamboo design and clear views over the rice paddies.</eat>
- Also, and very importantly, should these not be at Dindigul_(city), rather than Dindigul? The Dindigul article is a region article, and at Wikivoyage, individual listings should not go into a region article, but rather into the component city/town.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:12, 4 June 2010 (EDT)
Hangin' out in Sydney
[edit]Thanks for hanging around in Sydney recently. It is more interesting editing with your robust contributions to the discussions. --(WT-en) inas 19:20, 6 June 2010 (EDT)

Mount Rinjani
[edit]Hi Burmesedays, you have been very quiet lately. Perhaps you might like to have a look at Mount Rinjani as it is getting a bit messy. They are clearly well intentioned edits but are getting a bit crusty around the edges.(WT-en) felix 09:38, 13 October 2010 (EDT)
