Hello, Favourdare123! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

Thanks for your contributions to the Ikotun article. However, I have one question from the research I've done about Lagos. Is Ikotun a part of Lagos or is it a separate city? If it is part of Lagos we could make it a city district article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:59, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add my welcome, too. It is exciting to see our Nigeria articles being expanded to provide useful information to travellers. A really useful too for editing are the listings templates we have for adding attractions and monuments, activities, shops, restaurants, bars and lodgings under the See, Do, Buy, Eat, Drink and Sleep sections. These help you format the information in the standard way so it is easier for readers to find the information they are looking for. The templates automatically put the date on the information so that readers know how current it is. Please take a look at Wikivoyage:Listings to see how to use the templates. Thank you for your contributions. Ground Zero (talk) 22:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I put the listings in Ikeja into templates to show you how it improves the appearance of the article. This is the standard way of formatting in Wikivoyage articles. Please use the listings templates. Thank you for your contributions. Ground Zero (talk) 11:34, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Favourdare123: please use the templates. They make the article look better, and presenting the information in the same way in different articles makes it easier for readers to find information. The templates are not difficult to use:
"The easiest way to add a listing is to click on the "add listing" link next to a section or the "edit" link next to a listing (requires Javascript). Doing so will bring up an edit box that can be used to enter listing information. Alternately, you can click the "edit" tab on any article and then select the appropriate listing type from the "Listings" section of the edit toolbar - hover your mouse over each icon, and click on the one that is appropriate. Doing so will add a blank listing template to the edit window that can then be filled out."
Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 11:54, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the case of the article you’re currently writing, I can convert to correct listings, but make sure all future listings are added as Ground Zero has recommended above. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:39, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you need help with Wikidata items, I can help you with that. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 14:26, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, a continuation to the message that I left you on my talk page, w:Wikipedia:How to upload a photo might help you a bit too. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 02:02, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Default address info[edit]

Hi, User:Favourdare123, and thanks for adding listings! Since you're adding a lot off them, please have a look at the Wikivoyage:Listings page, particularly "address" under Wikivoyage:Listings#Template parameters:

the street address for the business or attraction. Do not include the city (if the same as the page title), the state/province or postal code

In other words, please omit Ogbomosho from the address of listings in the Ogbomosho article.

Also please look at edit summaries in articles you are working on, as User:Ground Zero explained this exact thing to you - you can see that on the left side here. If you're having any trouble seeing edit summaries, click the "View history" tab on the upper right of the article in question.

Thanks and all the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:33, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, we use standard formatting for times and days of the week to make it easier for readers to read our articles. For countries like Nigeria that use the 12-hour clock, we use this format: 9AM-noon, 1-5PM (i.e., AM/PM in capital letters, and noon/midnight instead of 12PM/12AM). I have been correcting many of the listings you've been creating to follow this format. Could you try to use this for your future contributions? Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 21:58, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"lastedit" field[edit]

Why are you deleting those? Please use them, instead. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:12, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just for some clarification to why we use those, it's because of how we want the (Updated Month YEAR) to look. Also, as much as I hate this, we have to use the American style of dates such as 2021-06-17 and not 17-06-2021 or 2021-17-06. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:10, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, that's not American-style. American-style is some variation of 6/17/21 or 06/17/2021. The year never goes first in dates in the U.S. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:19, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile phone provider listings[edit]

Hi, Favourdare123. Please read and participate in the Talk:Nigeria#Mobile phone provider listings thread. It doesn't make any sense to have the same listings for mobile phone service providers in every article about Nigeria. "Connect" sections for cities should mention which mobile phone services work and which have better signals but shouldn't have full listings. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:41, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates[edit]

Ilesa is at lat 7.633333, long 4.75, so I don't understand the coordinates:

  • Erinimo Hills lat=1.2, long=-12.7
  • Obokungusi Town Hall lat=1.3, long=12.5
  • Pick and smile Supermarket lat=81.8, long=-9.8
  • Albertville Luxury Hotel lat=81.8, long=-9.1

These coordinates are a long way away from Ilesa. I think there is something wrong with how you are finding coordinates. Ground Zero (talk) 16:04, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good work on creating Gombe. Its a nice article. I have removed all of the coordinates you added because they are not in Nigeria. Gombe sits at about lat=10, long=11, so any coordinates that are not close are incorrect. Ground Zero (talk) 11:52, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding correct coordinates. The map works now! Ground Zero (talk) 12:30, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I saw this issue on many Nigeria articles while finding statistics for the expedition. Gombe seemed to have the issue as well, and it appears to be resolved. This will bring many Nigeria articles closer to usable and guide status. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:54, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yenagoa, however, still doesn't look right. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:42, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SelfieCity: - funnily enough, when I first looked at Yenagoa, I thought it was in Australia (as there's towns here that sound very similar) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 00:15, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Have you uploaded the file "Ede city Banner for wikivoyage.jpg" to the Wikimedia Commons? If I can help, please let me know. It would be nice to have a banner for the Ede article. Ground Zero (talk) 21:50, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. As I wrote in my edit summary, "not seeing which banner works. If you're trying to add a file (which I can't find) first upload it to Commons; then try to get the filename correct in your userspace or on the talk page before trying to add it. Otherwise the banner will be replaced with a TOC." --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:52, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you![edit]

Expedition[edit]

A new expedition has been set up at Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition. Feel free to join. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 14:00, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The opening of the Nigeria café[edit]

Dear Favourdare123, we are exited to open our new Nigeria Café, open to all. It is a place for the users of the Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition users to collaborate, ask for help, make announcements, make initiatives and most importantly celebrate article related celebrations. It is also a place for you to ask general questions, and an experienced user or an admin will be sure to answer the question and possibly teach more on how Wikivoyage works.

This is also meant to be on top of the Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition, which is also meant to help us improve our Nigerian destinations. If you haven't already joined, feel free to join, and it is never too late.

So be sure to check out Wikivoyage:Nigeria café

Thanks! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 14:54, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Typing all in capital letters[edit]

We don't do that in Wikivoyage. Please see wv:capitalisation. If a place is open every day of the week, the simplest way of saying that is to say "Daily". "M-Su" says the same thing in a more complicated way. Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 22:02, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

Would you PLEASE stop adding listings tat are totally unimportant to the traveller? This is not WikiYellowPages, this is not Wikipedia, this is a travel guide. Please, chill out. Ibaman (talk) 12:23, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
