Default address parameters

Hello, and thank you so much for being so active and adding so much content!

Just a small pointer here: With the exception of the United Kingdom, listings do not include the name of the city, province, postal code or other default information. The reason why the UK is an exception is that postal codes there are not for entire cities or more, but actually help a traveller to find a place. That's not the case in countries like Italy. Please see Wikivoyage:Listings#Template parameters for reference, and let me know if you have any questions.

Dynamic maps on country and state articles

Hi there, I noticed you recently added {{mapframe}} to a number of country and state articles. We currently don't use those kinds of maps at the country/state/province level (or any region that has subregions) because we're still developing ways to make colour-coded regions on them. We also tend to avoid using the {{mapframe}} if there's already a static map on the page. There's more information on how we use {{mapframe}} at the Dynamic maps Expedition. Fair enough, I wasn't completely aware of this. I will however continue to add GPS co-ordinates to the cities and other destinations of countries. As well as dynamic maps using {{mapframe}} for areas that lack colour-coded regional breakdowns. I do love dynamic maps a lot and do think that most of Wikivoyage should utilise them. London terminals redirects

Hi. Good idea to create redirects for the main London terminal stations. However, I was thinking that rather than redirect just to the relevant district article, they'd be more useful to redirect to the station's listing within that article. In order to do this, we'd have to use the listing template and make sure the Wikidata field was active. This idea is already in use with IATA redirects for airports without their own article (e.g. LCY). What say you? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 22:13, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

This has been a standard of mine for quite a while and I certainly find it helpful myself as it allows travellers to easily see where they will end up or go from. I have provided a list of most, if not all the stations that have been redirected on my profile. The only anomaly is London Bridge station as London Bridge goes to a disambiguation page. Inadvertently adding Station Pictures to Next level Listings Mouse Overs

Inferno986return I like your advice Add a marker to an airport/train station/bus station on a page as it firstly shows where it is, on the map, and secondly it shows its picture. I like the idea so much that I have done this on at least 4 of the Hertfordshire pages! However I have noticed on the Hertfordshire Page for most of the listings, when you place your mouse over it, a picture of the railway station appears, rather that the essence of the town. I don't believe this second order effect was what you intended? I tried to fix it. I thought that it was the first wikidata entry on the page that is being picked up but that does not happen for Welwyn Garden City but does for Harpenden. Now I have run out of idea's other than removing the Wikidata=Q... which I don't want to do [as it will remove the picture]. Any advice would be appreciated. Hello RobThinks, I don't think I know enough about how Wikivoyage itself prioritises images using Wikidata. I see what you mean when I work my way through the city listings. Perhaps the Wikidata image for the station takes presence when there's no wikidata picture for the article itself? Something to consider. Inferno986return (talk) 16:55, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Overground lines

Hi there :-)

I see you've replaced the Overground RINT with line-specific RINTs on the Hampstead page and possibly other pages, but wonder if TTCF wouldn't be better served the previous way? After all, the line names don't appear on the standard Tube map, on station or in-train signage, nor even on TfL's online timetables. This is partly because the named lines don't all match up with the actual train service (for instance Clapham Junction to Highbury & Islington uses track on the SLL, ELL and NLL). Personally, I hope for the day that TfL finally differentiate all those orange lines from each other in a coherent way, which each route having its own name and colour. But until they do, it would seem to be more traveller-friendly to stick to just generic Overground on Wikivoyage.

I am following the lead on the Hammersmith & Fulham page for Shepherd's Bush station. I originally added the London Overground to RINT and used that. However, another user has added various London Overground lines. Looking them up on Wikipedia, there is a defined name and map for each line which is probably the only justification I can find for using them. There's got to be a way to simplify the London Overground for travellers and I am interested in ways of doing that, particularly when I find it confusing myself despite being a London resident.

Perhaps we should stick with the OGD template I made and explain the line used with the destination endpoints per London article? Maybe this needs a larger discussion with other users?

The Overground is just one of several messes making navigation more difficult that TfL have so far failed to address.

It's likely that I may have added line-specific RINTs too, and it just struck me today following your edit that that may not be the best approach. Which is the OGD template you made, is it the generic one? If so, then the 'Get in' section of each district article served by the Overground could simply state the service patterns that travellers can trace on the map (e.g. Richmond/Clapham Junction via Willesden to Stratford) rather than getting bogged down in the line names.

Typically, I find that discussions about local transport systems don't attract much interest on Wikivoyage, but if you think more voices might help clarify the best approach on Talk:London, I'm all for it.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:39, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Well we finally have dinguishing names and colouration for each line.
