Hello, Mbrickn! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

Thanks for your contribs to the Bowling Green (Ohio) article. :) --ϒpsilon (talk) 05:31, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

"Learn" section of Findlay article

[edit]

"Learn" is an optional section for city articles and it's used only for institutions of learning that offer courses lasting 2 weeks or less for non-matriculated students. Obviously, the high school shouldn't be on this list, but should there be a list at all? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:38, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi! That's a good point, I wasn't totally clear on the learn section. I think that Millstream should remain, because they do offer one week crash courses in subjects like painting and computer literacy. http://www.millstreamadulted.org/crafts.html#paint

I think Owens Community College and the University of Findlay have similar programs as well. Do you mean I should specifically point them out?

Thanks!

Mbrickn (talk) 08:51, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's what needs to be emphasized in the "description" tabs. By the way, I just read your user page. Very interesting. You studied in Malaysia? At what level? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:16, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Just Form 4. Saint Johns Institution near Bukit Nanas in KL. I'm from Ohio originally though. ^_^

Mbrickn (talk) 09:18, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I did Standard 5-6 in Sekolah Kebangsaan in a village in Terengganu in the 70s. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:22, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Nice! I never got to go to Terengganu. :-( Farthest away I went from KL was to Melaka. Wish I could have traveled more though! Mbrickn (talk) 09:26, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
There's always next time. I got to visit Ipoh 26 years after my previous stay in Malaysia ended! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:31, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Banners

[edit]

Thanks for all of your great edits! One note on banners - per Wikivoyage:Banners all banners should have an aspect ratio of 7:1 (example: 2100x300) in order to maintain consistency across the site. If there is any chance of cropping some of the banners you've recently added that would be awesome, otherwise I've tagged them with the {{crop}} template so that another editor can do so. This isn't a big issue, I just wanted to call it out so that you were aware. Thanks again for all of your edits! -- Ryan (talk) 15:40, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'm not at a computer where I can do that right now, but that would explain why some were coming out strange! So do I just download a picture from Wikimedia commons, crop it, and reupload it then? How does attribution work? Sorry about my inexperience! ^_^ Mbrickn (talk) 15:44, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yep, crop and re-upload with a filename that has "banner" in it. You can check out an existing banner like c:File:Sony Pictures Entertainment banner.jpg for an example of how to attribute properly by referencing the source file. -- Ryan (talk) 15:50, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Anime conventions

[edit]

Thanks for listing them! As a point of style, though, do you really think "anime convention" per se is a proper noun? I don't. I think that to be a proper noun, it has to be the name of a particular convention. It's analogous to the difference between "I went to a political convention" and "I went to the 2016 Democratic National Convention" or "2016 Republican National Convention". Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:51, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

GOOD point! Sorry about that Mbrickn (talk) 18:46, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Not a big deal. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:05, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Autopatroller

[edit]

Hi, Mbrickn. I just made you an Autopatroller, because there's no reason for anyone to spend much time checking your fine work. Thanks for all you do.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:42, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

No problem! Thank you for your help! :D

Go next

[edit]

I think it is great that you are adding nearby locations to the Go next section of articles, however I am not sure about using the listing structure and adding wikipedia tags and other links and parameters to locations we have pages on. We generally only add a direct link to the other article and a little descriptive text. --Traveler100 (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I'm sorry about that. I noticed your correcting edit on the Perrysburg article and have begun following suit (See my edits a few minutes ago on the Van Buren article at https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Van_Buren_(Ohio)&action=history ). Over the next few days I'll be undoing my incorrect edits. Thank you for your time, and sorry for the trouble I've caused! Mbrickn (talk) 19:01, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for all the work you're doing on the article for Bowling Green (Ohio). However, as someone who doesn't know the place, I'd be interested to know how it got the name it has. I think that would be very useful to know, if you added it to the article.

Also, did you know that if the article for Bowling Green (Ohio) gets to guide status, you could nominate for Destination of the Month? Then it would go up on the home page for a whole month, either as a "Destination of the Month" or "Off the Beaten Path". It would be a great way to show people the work you've done. Another thing you could do with it eventually is nominate it for WV:Star nominations, for a similar reason. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:09, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'll look into why It's named that way, but locals usually say it's because the settlers thought it reminded the founders of Bowling Green Kentucky. I want to polish some things a bit more, but that seems like a good goal. Thanks again! ^ _ ^ Mbrickn (talk) 06:14, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Botanical tourism

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you added some topics to Botanical tourism, but there are some problems:

  • Amazonia is hardly a specific destitnation. I suggest you add more specific destinations - either specific locations or nature reserves
  • Great Barrier Reef isn't a botanical location at all. I suggest you delete it. The islands may or may not qualify as destinations themselves, but I think there are a lot other and more interesting botanical destinations in Australia.

Best regards, --Honymand (talk) 21:05, 5 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

You got it bud! Mbrickn (talk) 05:07, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Hi. I just removed the Wikipedia link you added in the Chocolate article for the second time. We don't use inline Wikipedia links on this site. Please have a look at Wikivoyage:Links to Wikipedia. If Ghirardelli's factory is visitable, why don't you instead link the section in the relevant SF district guide? There, there is (or should be) a listing that includes the WP link but also, more importantly, Ghirardelli's own website. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:41, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, if there are links like that, people click the link and suddenly find there on a completely different website with no obvious way to get back (other than the back button on their browser). --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:19, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

Sorry about that, I'll keep that in mind for the future, and try to clean up any direct wikipedia links I may have made in the past.

Thanks --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:07, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate it, too, but remember that it's fine and good to include Wikipedia links in listing templates. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:09, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, true. For example:

You've put quite a lot of work into that article lately. Also, I like your user page! It may come in handy when I'm writing a description about a small town. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:44, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Completing Pagebanners

[edit]

Hi! You've been doing an amazing job creating pagebanners for locations in Ohio, but I'm wondering if you would complete the process by inputting them into Wikidata. The pagebanners do not automatically load in Wikidata. Instead, they must be manually input. I've literally moved hundreds of banners to Wikidata since the end of last year.

There are instructions on how to input the pagebanners to Wikidata at Category:Banner missing from Wikidata. While the instructions may look long, its actually a very simple process, and there are photos to help as well. While I've added entries in Wikidata for most of the pagebanners you created yesterday, I have left a few for you to do. You can see the pagebanners that are left to be input in Wikidata by scrolling to the list below the instructions. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this information. Zcarstvnz (talk) 11:08, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that! I didn't realize I was dumping a bunch of work on someone else! D: I'll get them added and contact you if I have any questions! Mbrickn (talk) 18:31, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Patroller

[edit]

Would you like to be a patroller? This would give you the right to patrol, but you would not have as much responsibility as administrators (like me) have. In a way, it's the next step up from autopatroller. Would you like the position? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:54, 22 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Howdy! Thank you for the offer! If you think it would help, I'll patrol. Thanks! --Mbrickn (talk) 02:33, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'll give you the right to patrol, then. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:37, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
You now have the right to patrol. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:39, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
To patrol, you simply find an edit with a red exclamation point, go to the diff page, and click "mark as patrolled." Make sure, however, that you do not mark vandals' edits as patrolled. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:40, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Edit conflict

[edit]

Sorry about the edit conflict in the Skowhegan article. Do your stuff! I'll wait until later and then add the remaining info I can glean from the art school's website if that's still needed. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:10, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that! I hadn't realized I was creating edit conflicts earlier. Looking through the edit history it looks like I somehow deleted the address you added while editing. Sorry about that! --Mbrickn (talk) 00:12, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bentonville#Do

[edit]

Thanks for your work on the Bentonville article! I noticed in the article history that you had converted Bentonville#Do to listings. I wanted to let you know that I have converted it to prose, because unless you plan to expand those listings you created, I think that prose is more appropriate in that case. Thanks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:19, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

- That sounds better! I just saw some old style listings and was kind of at a loss for what to do to them, so I just upgraded them. I agree that prose is better. Thank you for your help! --Mbrickn (talk) 22:14, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Definitely! I’ve made some other changes as well. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:15, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
