India

Thank you for your updates to India, among many other places. You've made yourself a valuable editor on this site. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:30, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Changing pagebanners

Hi, Soumya-8974. It's great that you plunge forward and make so many great updates! In the case of non-obvious changes of pagebanner, though, the procedure is to post a thumbnail of the existing pagebanner and your proposed replacement on the talk page of the article in question and wait to see if a consensus develops, not to replace pagebanners unilaterally. In the event, I disagree somewhat with one of your replacements and strongly with another. Your input is requested at Talk:Kashmiri phrasebook and Talk:Ladakhi phrasebook. Thanks.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:47, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Changing categories to articles

Hi. I don't understand why you're doing that. Could you please respond to the points being made on this page? Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:15, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Default address parameters

Hi, Soumya-8974. You do fine work, but you haven't posted a single reply on this page, so I feel like you may not be reading any of this. I hope you are. If so, please read Wikivoyage:Listings#Template parameters:

  • address: the street address for the business or attraction. Do not include the city (if the same as the page title), the state/province or postal code (except for addresses in the United Kingdom and Germany, which should include the post code; see Wikivoyage:Abbreviations#Addresses, etc. for formatting guidelines).

So in the Amaravati guide, Amaravati should not appear in any address tab of any listing.

And take a few seconds to post one reply on this page, so we know you're reading. Thanks, and thanks for the good work you're doing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:22, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

List all cities in "Cities" sections of bottom-level regions

I saw that you deleted some city listings in Rayalaseema#Cities. They all have to be restored because that region is a bottom-level region not divided into any subregions. Otherwise, we have orphaned cities. I can only hope you're reading. You do great work but have been entirely uncommunicative, which is not the Wiki way. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:51, 28 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hyderabad Airport

Hi, Soumyabrata. I don't think HYD airport is big or complex enough to merit its own article. Before you put any more work into the article, please join me to discuss at Talk:Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Hope to see you there. All the best, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 09:59, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

To my knowledge, User:Soumya-8974 hasn't replied to any talk page post ever, so don't hold your breath. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:11, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
So I see. Soumya, is there anything we can do to help you feel more comfortable using talk pages? It's alright to be nervous (if indeed you are), but we're really quite friendly here. You obviously made your user page to introduce yourself to the wider community, and we only want to work in collaboration with you.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:30, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

An award for you

The Wikivoyage Barncompass
For your various contributions to Wikivoyage, and especially for your work in improving our coverage of Asian destinations. Ground Zero (talk) 12:41, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

"At the north(west)"

I guess this is Indian English for "to the north(west)", but to this American, it would seem to imply that it's the north(west) part of whatever (in this case, Mumbai). "To the [direction]" means that it is [direction] beyond the city limits. So I will change these phrases back, but let's discuss the language if "to the [direction]" is confusing to an Indian and find an expression that's clear to all English-speakers. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:53, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please do not make unilateral changes

Hi there, please do not make unilateral changes by just redirecting Kalwa to Thane because of how you feel it is. Discuss options on the talk page first. Also, can you please stop making unnecessary redirects. They provide no help and they'll end up being deleted in the end. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 07:49, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also I see you've a tendency to not reply on talk pages. But please inform about the change in Talk:Kalwa and not here before making unilateral changes. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 07:56, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I used to write edit summaries to describe unilateral changes, not talk pages. --Soumya-8974 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:05, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Since Kalwa has no attractions or activities for travellers, that city does not merit its own article. That is why I redirected the article to the nearby city Thane. If you believe that Kalwa still merits an article, then list attractions under "See" and activities under "Do" if you find one. --Soumya-8974 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:02, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's proper etiquette to use talk pages, and not edit summaries. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:08, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

New installment

You need to stop unilaterally editing an article like Eastern Europe and pay attention to the discussions on Talk:Eastern Europe and the Travellers' pub. Ignoring those threads and bullheadedly continuing is not a good idea. Please stop. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:07, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

vfd nominations

Hi Soumya-8974, I have nominated your redirects TW and MO for deletion. Please share your comments at vfd. Thanks, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:21, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Redirect and Disambiguation ban

There is a proposal to ban you from redirects and disambiguations for a certain period of time. It's currently being discussed on Wikivoyage:User ban nominations, and this is just a note to tell you about the proposal. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Kolkata map

Hello Sbb1413, you changed File:Kolkata Wikivoyage map PNG.png in such a way that now other language Wikivoyage's have a wrong map in their Kolkata page (color scheme). FredTC (talk) 09:38, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Will alter it soon. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 14:33, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done, thank you. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 18:17, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Redirects again

You've been making a lot of great edits, but why was it necessary to recreate a deleted redirect for East Bengal, for example? Though most of the redirects you're creating tonight look reasonable to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:56, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

It was originally created as an extraregion article and not as a redirect. I have now created this redirect as it is synonymous to Bangladesh. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 09:00, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
That article went through the VFD process in 2021, wherein the possibility of redirecting was considered and rejected. Accordingly, I have upheld last year's vote and deleted your redirect. If you want to go down that road, you need to make a proposal at Votes for undeletion and wait for a consensus to be reached before acting.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 11:51, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 13:10, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wrong formatting

With this edit you made correct formatted times like "7AM" wrong, like "7 AM". FredTC (talk) 09:36, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I didn't notice that mistake. It is probably because of my smartphone keyboard suggesting to add a space between the number and the AM/PM sign (I alter my editing between smartphone and computer). I have also noticed that the style guide proscribes such spacing. Thank you for pointing it out. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 09:43, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I argued for that space but was voted down. :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:48, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Some of your latest edits

Please look at Talk:Bay of Bengal. I don't agree with this redirect, or that we should have one for that term, but discuss it at the link.

I see new listings for a petrol pump and a jail. If you're going to list these types of establishments, you should explain why. Is it hard to find petrol in Palashi? Is the jail a beautiful building of a particular type or a historic one that has tours like Alcatraz? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:50, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Here's another one that needs more context: "Brindaban Chandra's Math". "Math" is short for "mathematics" in the U.S. I doubt most people from outside South Asia will know another meaning for the word. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:52, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Palashi is a rural area and it might be hard to find a gas station. Both the Hooghly Jail and the Alipore Jail are historic prisons used by the British people to imprison Indian freedom activists. In the case of Brindaban Chandra's Math, "Math" (pronounced /mɔʈʰ/ in Bengali and /məʈʰ/ in Hindi as opposed to /mæθ/) is an Indo-Aryan word for monastery, like Belur Math in Howrah. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:02, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Right, but you need to clarify those things in the articles in question, not here, where no-one will read them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:29, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done, thank you. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 07:55, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Size of images

On 29 July this year, with this edit, I made all images the same size by removing the "...px" from [[file: ...]]. At that time there were 18 images with 6 of a non-standard size. In my edit summary I wrote: 'All images same size, as specified by the user in "Preferences".' Letting the user decide how big the images (without "...px") must be, the user also influences the amount of data traffic involved with accessing the Wiki-page. The amount of data traffic can influence costs involved, as well as the time needed to load the page (specially in a shared internet connection). Having images with different sizes on the same page can look quite messy. So, all images the same size is an improvement. But since my edit you have been adding new images with "...px", and not just that, but you also added "...px" to many existing images, and you gave no explanation why. So: why do you do this? What is your problem with "let the user decide" about the size of the images via "Preferences"? --FredTC (talk) 10:41, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I had changed the image size as per Wikivoyage:How to add an image#Sizing and I will ignore the guideline if the guideline goes against the traveller's preferences. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 14:49, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for chiming, but to Fred, keep in mind that many travellers are unregistered users who cannot change the default size of images via Special:Preferences and will see the default 200px-image. I don't see the problem in Sbb's editing, for what it's worth. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:02, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Are you editing categories manually?

If so, why? I don't think that's done on this site. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:09, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean by this? I don't understand. I was just splitting Category:Asia itineraries into subcats. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 10:11, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I mean precisely that we don't manually edit or split categories. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:32, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Did you make the edits at Asia itineraries and the categories thereby were edited without your doing anything directly to them? That would be fine. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:36, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I understand why manual editing of categories are wrong. Wikivoyage:Categories says, "These categories are set automatically within the templates, not manually by users." However, I don't understand how the categories are set automatically within the templates I got it, thank you for pointing my mistake. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 10:47, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:35, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

A barncompass for you!

The Gold Barncompass
One year ago. Or to be a little more precise, about one and a half years ago. That should sum it all.

However, after a year-long break from this site, you've turned yourself from a contributor who, to keep in simple, did some rather unwanted things on this site, to a highly-valued contributor. Since your return, you've substantially improved Wikivoyage's coverage of not only West Bengal, but of India and Bangladesh too. Thanks to your great work on various different regionalisations, we no longer have region articles under Bangladesh with a single destination article, a long and unwieldy list of destinations on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, or on the flip side, regions that reflect the physical geography on Assam. In addition, you're now one of the few contributors who can make static maps (and I have to admit: my best static maps are nowhere near as what you'd consider your worst, if you have a particular selection).

Keep up the great work!

--SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 07:19, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

As a side note, I'm happy to help you get unblocked on enwiki if you need it. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 07:19, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the award. I'm looking forward to improving the destinations in South Asia. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:22, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'll be glad to be unblocked in enwiki, where I will put links to relevant Wikivoyage articles. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:22, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
It should be noted that the correspondence of the regions of Assam with its physical geography is a pure coincidence and the regions are actually based on the administrative divisions, with some changes to fit with the travel content. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 16:21, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Happy holidays!

Happy holidays, Sbb1413!

Template editor?

Hi Sbb1413, do you want me to give you the template editor right so you can edit complex templates like {{rint}}? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:53, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:54, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done. You should now be able to edit rint. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:56, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
