Wikivoyage:Votes for deletion/May 2014

From Wikivoyage
April 2014 Votes for deletion archives for May 2014 (current) June 2014

A personal itinerary that hasn't been edited meaningfully since its creation by an anonymous IP editor in February 2012.

Result: Deleted -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 01:03, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is just a container for two island groups (Miyako Islands and Yaeyama Islands), with no content and senseless triplication of the island lists. I'd like to redirect this to Okinawa. Jpatokal (talk) 12:38, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not seeing how anything would be left in limbo. The whole page is already contained in the breakdown at Okinawa#Sakishima Islands. All you need to do is redirect it there, delink it, and fix the breadcrumbs of Miyako Islands and Yaeyama Islands to skip that step. Texugo (talk) 20:17, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jpatokal said he was working on reorganizing the section to make it more user-friendly or was that the reason he made the intermediary article? ChubbyWimbus (talk) 05:32, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that Jpatokal was not the creator of the intermediary article. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 05:52, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Reading it again, yes, he states it was made by someone else, but there is discussion above by him and you (Andre) regarding reorganizing the hierarchy or just the presentation on the Okinawa page. It'd be nice if it were reorganized first. Continuing to have the reorganization "in the works" is what I am saying would be in limbo, Texugo. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 06:10, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. In general I'm happy for someone with a clear idea of geographical organisation to propose it on the local talk pages, and implement it once consensus is gained there. Any articles no longer required should be redirected to the best target. --Inas (talk) 00:23, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Merged into Okinawa. Jpatokal (talk) 06:17, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Individual persons do as a rule NOT get articles here on WV. When I saw the article I first thought some vandal was copying articles from Pedia and was about to tag it for speedy deletion. However as I saw it's a contributor that has been around for longer than just five minutes I decided to give him a chance; this could potentially be developed into a travel topic similar to On the trail of Kipling's Kim. However I notified the user, Fnielsen on his talk page that it's likely that the article will be deleted. ϒpsilon (talk) 19:23, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - I find it strange that Wikivoyage travel guide should only revolve around geographical entities. There is actually a lot of travellers that travel for specific purposes: tv-series and film location hunting, culinary and literary travels, e.g., following the paths of Ulysses in Dublin, Second World War locations, etc. Fnielsen (talk) 19:37, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Comment- Yes, we do have articles for Travel topics and I'm glad to see that you're developing a proper travel topic out of it (that can be used on its own merits). Please understand that there has been cases where someone has just written a few lines and left it, like a Paintball article that got deleted a few months back. ϒpsilon (talk) 20:02, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We might want to reserve "On the trail" for persons (characters or otherwise) who are famous for their travels... there may be sites relevant to Andersen in a number of places, but did he really blaze a trail that could be followed? Powers (talk) 00:49, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you have a point there, but whatever we do, I would like to find a standard other than simply the person's name, something that makes it immediately clear that it's a travel article related to that person, rather than an article about that person. Texugo (talk) 01:06, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but move. I agree with Powers, however, that the "On the trail of..." prefix ought to be reserved for actual itineraries taken by real or fictional people. Additionally, perhaps it's time to make our policy regarding articles about real people a bit more fine-grained. While we certainly want to discourage the creation of content outside the scope of the project, as well as copypasta from Wikipedia and elsewhere, it's pretty clear to me that, assuming it's developed satisfactorily, this would be a worthwhile travel topic. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 00:55, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Considering Hans Christian Andersen isn't exactly known for his travels, and the lack of content, would it be better to merge this into a Literary Denmark article much like Literary London ? Andrewssi2 (talk) 01:00, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - That is, keep instead of deleting. What other step is taken (if any) doesn't matter to me as long as there is a wide consensus behind it, preferably with at least the acceptance if not agreement of Fnielsen, who took the quite reasonable step of creating this article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:26, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but Rename It's true that people don't get articles, but articles related to people certainly can/do. It just needs to be given an itinerary title, but fairy tale travel is quite fun when real places and inspired locations exist. Definitely useful. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 03:08, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any suggestions of a new name for this article?

  • Although I like the sound and conciseness of "Literary Denmark", to me that name suggests the tour will focus on locations in Denmark related to works by a variety of authors (and the authors themselves). It doesn't imply a Hans Christian Andersen focus. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 05:43, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds like Travels of Hans Christian Andersen is something we all can get behind. Barring any objections, I'll make the move imminently. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 06:18, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Moved to Travels of Hans Christian Andersen with original article retained as redirect. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 08:34, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This pagebanner is an image of a person, and the person is clearly identifiable. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 13:44, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Cannot be deleted because it's at Commons, not here, but was removed from the article. Texugo (talk) 11:50, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is now done. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:08, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Moved to Wikivoyage:Bad jokes and other deleted nonsense/Parappistan. Texugo (talk) 11:50, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
