Age of Consent

While reducing the amount of commentary about sex crimes by a contributor (which I thought was needed too) you added the age of consent for a few countries. What you wrote for some of them like Philippines and Cambodia doesn't match what Interpol says. I was trying to cross check a few places and did use some information from an AIDS awareness website called Avert and also a little from Unicef reports. I had not thought to check Interpol. I thought the colors were a bit muted in the torii picture, since it's at dusk, and therefore wasn't an ideal 'grabber'. And the formatting worked better with the long horizontal of the dance picture up top (as opposed to the more info-heavy 'See' section). Bhutan

The southeastern border of Bhutan has been allowing travelers to exit for some time. The problems were that there was no provision for offering exit stamps there, and so travelers still had to return to Phuentsholing to get the paper work done. Do you know if that has changed? I've not read anything in the local press to that effect. Also, the Indian authorities on the Assam border were only offering entry stamps to foreigners on a case by case basis. However, the only time this issue has been mentioned in the local press was a 9 Jan 2007 article that stated that the national assembly were considering opening this border. Millenium

Will it really be the new millennium in Ethiopia on September 11, 2007? One thing that always drove me nuts was when people would be preparing for the "millennium" in 1999, when in fact the new millennium didn't start until January 1, 2001 00:01. I can answer my own question and no, it will not be the new Ethiopian millennium this year on September 11th. We have to wait until 2008 year of the Gregorian calendar. Also, the new year actually begins on September 12, 2007 [2]. This is because the new year always starts a day later than normal, on years preceding the Gregorian leap year. Yes, I can confirm that the pictures I have added on the Guiyang, Guizhou and Anshun pages are mine. I took the Anshun and Guizhou pictures in 2004 while I was living in Zunyi. I took the picture of the Jiaxiu Pavilion in Guiyang earlier this week since I currently reside there.

Hi, I made edits to the Ubud article yesterday, and I see you cleaned them up some; thanks. I've just made some more and thought I should explain that the phone number format here is to use +62361... when calling from outside Indonesia, and to use 0361... for calls placed from inside the contry (handphones work with either format). Your site probably has guidelines on this sort of thing somewhere, but I've not seen them.

FYI, this is an internet cafe machine, so other may edit using it. This IP is used by many different places.

Coasters, Serendipity Beach. One of the older restaurant/hotels on the beach, with older wooden huts (fan only) and newer brick buildings (air-con). Location on the beach is superb, close to nightlife yet quiet, but rooms are basic, plumbing is dodgy. PLUMBING IS NOT DODGY THE ONLY THING THATS DODGY IS YOUR REVIEW. restaurant gets mixed reviews. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THERE A RESTAURANT THAT GETS STATIC REVIEWS? and service has drawn many complaints. PLEASE SHOW ME THE MANY COMPLAINTS ( How many?? From where? point me towards them?) Cagayan de Oro

I have read the policy on adult oriented links and find it reasonable. However in the case of Cagayan de Oro City especially in the Philippines, there has been efforts to rid of the sex image. Placing links to these type of bars does not help at all. In fact the first gay bar in the city was almost closed due to complaints from concern citizens. Personally I do not want my city to be known as such because of one single adult website. I hope you reconsider your web policy based on our local concerns. thanks

Kyoto Cheapest Inn

It's possible that they keep reverting the description on the Kyoto page because they offer transportation of convenience itself (which has recently begun to appear on shelves in Lawson's in sprayable form), and they want the description to reflect that, so travelers know they won't have to lug their bottles of convenience around with them. Baby Jesus

Just an observation, but I doubt Baby Jesus' break point is infoboxes in listings, especially considering what He went through one time – a flogging, having a crown of thorns placed on His head, being spat on while being struck with a stick on the head, then He was crucified, then He died, then a Roman stuck a spear in Jesus' side and drained His blood. Then Baby Jesus was dragged off and placed in a tomb for three days, until He arose.

Italic romanization?

I recently edited the style guideline to call for italicizing of romanizations because I noted we were doing it that way. So now I'm wondering if italicizing romanizations is actually what we should be doing or not and why we have been doing it.

Stockholm

Thanks for your feedback. I certainly didn't intend to break style guidelines - although I realise now that there were some details I didn't notice when quickly scanning them. However, I can't really see in what way I've made "large formatting changes" to existing text that has taken it from correct formatting to incorrect. Rather, the formatting of existing attractions in the Stockholm article seems to have been rather far from the Manual of Style for quite some time without anyone noticing, and I just copied some of the formatting already used in the article (but actually tried to bring my additions more in line with the prescribed format, e.g. adding phone numbers and opening times in some places). For example, I see now that what is called "front-linking" is frowned upon. This seemed to be the standard in the article's listing and I just kept with that. If you actually mean that I've changed things for the worse, it would be very helpful if you could be more specific.

As for linking to maps I must say I find the policy strange. Considering the Project:The traveller comes first slogan, I thought it would be better to actually be able to point to a small street not easily found on a map. Surely, "our own maps" would be better, but if I'm not prepared to draw them, the alternative is obviously no map at all. However, I realize I should take that over at the policy pages. Although I think I prefer to add useful information rather than engage in policy debates. Feel free to remove the Google Maps links if you wish. (WT-en) Alarm 08:36, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

I am less enthusiastic about the jokey (and in some cases inaccurate) section headings. On Wikipedia I'm used to choosing my own headings. Is this verboten on WikiTravel? For example I am unhappy about reclassifying a campsite as a budget hotel. I'm sure you were just following a format, but it seems to be a straightjacket and it affects the accessibility of the information.

Hey Jani, I'm trying to get the listings tags to work on the Russian language version, but am running into difficulties. I translated the list of tags here and tried to add the listings tags to ru:MediaWiki:Edittools, but perhaps I have done something wrong, because only the "email" and "url" tags seem to be working (which are by no coincidence, I presume, the only tags I did not transliterate into cyrillic). Here is an (WT-ru) example listing, not working. I thought I would ask you, since you got the listings tags working fine on :ja. ja: doesn't use listings tags at all, it uses a custom template hack system that actually predates listings. And yes, both me and the little imaginary gnomes at the Press hate translating listings into other languages -- you're making it much, much more difficult to manipulate them programmatically (wave buh-bye to ever seen a printed Russian guidebook!), and it's not meant to be human-visible information in the first place. WTP formatting guidelines

For publishing, I would assume that formatting guidelines will be more strict than a wiki would require. Are there any plans to have more precise formatting guidelines for, say, punctuation? The listing tags are a godsend for publishing, as we can just grab the data and reformat it as we like. For text in general, we already have a pretty detailed Manual of Style, and Press editors will just enforce it. I'd prefer to add any additional style guidelines for stuff not yet covered into the sitewise MoS, but naturally that will have to go through the consensus process. Just to clarify, the sorts of things I was thinking about are very minor, like dashes, or whether to put a period after abbreviations in addresses (e.g., N Michigan Ave or N. Michigan Ave.?). Provinces and regions in Finland

I'm not sure, but it seems like you did not understand the text which explained the difference between a "Province" and a "Region" in the main article about Finland when you reverted it to a old version. The areas mentioned "above" by you are not regions, but provinces. Within the provinces there are regions which were mentioned in the text. A little reading should have made that pretty clear. To know about these regions is valuable knowledge to travellers since locals refer more to them than the provinces mentioned on the main page. There was a text about this on the discussuon-page, and so far no one has disagreed.

The things that should be changed are the descriptions of the provinces, but I have no good ideas at the moment.

I'm going to change the text to the previous version, but if you do not agree with that please let me know.

No prob, but if the bot is going to be doing updates every day, we're going to run out of Project:Discover trivia, because they aren't being updated very often. Incidentally, looks like the bot may not be handling images correctly. It kept the phallic image around after the trivium referencing it was gone ... I don't see how this is an exception. It's not widely advertised, I'm not aware of it being prominently featured in other guidebooks, we're not short of Hoi An listings, and if it's prominently located, we don't even know where - we don't have an address. And why list the price of dinner if the recommendation is that people not have dinner? If it's on the river, as he seems to imply, it's among several blocks of several dozen restaurants and cafes packed together tightly - nearly everyone has a waterfront terrace and nobody stands out. Why exactly do you keep insiting on removing cited information? You removed a link from the stay safe section that showed that Helsinki has a murder rate around six times higher than other major European cities, and then removed text that stated that this was not a major problem for tourists, replacing it with not a problem at all for tourists. Vandalism policy?

I don't know about you folks (I'm sending the same message to several), but I for one am getting sick and tired of the intentional vandalism that's going on here. I am trying to start a discussion on Project:Community policies as to whether something more forceful needs to be in place to deal with it. Historically, we have bent far over backwards to avoid punitive action against vandals and have simply gone in and cleaned up the messes they create. However, the frequency of vandalism is growing, and I am not convinced that we are doing Wikivoyage a service by tolerating it. This said, I'm not at all sure what the "right" response is.

Hi, Thanks for your answer on shared. I downloaded the photo (Image:Holyrood_Palace_Edinburgh.jpg), started to upload, then didn't have a clue about the license. The en image says CC by-sa but no version (unless I just don't know where to look...), the original image on WikiMedia Commons specifies GFDL and "CC by-sa 2.0 Germany", is that the same as WT's GFDL and CC by-sa 2.0?
