I've written some useful advice for editors who want to improve articles about places they aren't familiar with: User:Ypsilon/Tips for improving articles on unfamiliar destinations. I thought sharing this might inspire other voyagers to improve articles from parts of the world that we don't cover very well. What do you say, is this something worth moving into main space at some point (it's still work in progress ;)), or is it just captain obvious stuff? --ϒpsilon (talk) 17:48, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

On a quick scan, it looks good. One thing that seems to be missing is an explanation of setting user preferences to show dead links. Pashley (talk) 18:39, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

I like it and think that it can be really useful. In the least it might be a nice way to reassure editors that there is nothing important that they don't know that they don't know. Two thoughts: Perhaps it could be emphasized that this is a way and not the way to create new pages? We don't what to deter users from editing at all because they are not comfortable with this specific format. Secondly, perhaps it could also be useful to have a section discussing each of our standardized rubrics, e.g. "Tips for improving Eat sections in unfamiliar destinations" etc? It might cause some duplication, but it would also make the article much more navigable and useful for editors who don't want to write a full article at a time. Good points. And it's not even a way, but rather a collection of tools and the editor can pick and choose which ones of them they want and need to use. For instance, if Understand, Get in, Get around and See are in a decent shape you will probably not need to use Wikipedia. ϒpsilon (talk) 20:13, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

It looks useful. I think it would be good to highlight that in the case of a passage you don't know how to translate, it's much better to omit a piece of information than to mistranslate it in a way that makes it inaccurate. —Granger (talk · contribs) 21:36, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Wikidata
