Hi,200.37.30.143. "Cuzco" is *no* mistake, just a different spelling. Both are usual.

Where not to stay?

I wonder how appropriate it would be to put down where not to stay. When I was in Cuzco, we booked a room at one place, but they played a shell game with us and put us up at the 'Eurohostal'; a cheaper place owned by the same guy. Of course, we were charged the higher rate. When we complained to the tourist police, the police said that the owner of those places had a history of pulling crap like that. --(WT-en) Bletch 20:36, 2 Mar 2005 (EST)

Agreed. Just a little editing work, and I could definitely see adding this to the list of Project:Destination of the Month candidates. Cusco

"Cuzco" is how Cusco is often spelled on American and European maps, but the local spelling and the spelling throughout Peru is "Cusco". "Cusco" is the official spelling used by all government offices.

I strongly recommend to use Cusco, not Cuzco, because it's used by all government offices, road signals, and Cuzco isn't a common English version, Cuzco is a misspelling. Turbo8000 (talk) 22:25, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Please becarefull if you are thinking of passing yourself off as a "voluntourist" at a serious charity such as Bruce Peru there are other touristy NGOs there who would be glad to entertain you with some short term feel good project. Just a word of warning.

Guide status

The Cuzco article has improved a lot and this certainly should be acknowledged. I think, however, that some things are still missing to make it a real guide, especially concerning the Manual fo Style:

• The listings are incomplete - no address and contact info
• There is Get out stuff on the Get in section, Do and Work stuff under See, etc. Those need to be placed under the correct sections according to Project:Where you can stick it
• There are 1st person pronouns ("I would recommend the Combis") scattered around
• Although its not a strict requirement of the Guide status rating, there is no real Understand section. Considering the thousands of years of Cuzco history, no real guide would be called a guide without a good explanation of this city's past.

Hence, I'm changing the status back to usable, and I'm also proposing Cuzco as Collaboration of the Week, because I think it has great potential to become destination of the month soon if we get more people to work on it. (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 18:57, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

Image help!

I was going to put one of the pictures of Cuzco as a 400px wide framed image although I can't seem to get the right code in

I was using [[Image:Plaza de Armas.jpg|right|frame|400px|description]] and for some reason it wouldnt do it at the size I had specified, it just blows up into the whole screen!! What am I doing wrong?! (WT-en) Tsandell 12:59, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

The trick is to use "thumb" instead of "frame". This tells the software that you want it shrunken to a "thumbnail" of the full-size image, so it will then pay attention to the size you specify. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 13:24, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Boleto Turistico sidebar

This tourist pass is required for entrance to alot of attractions here and in other local places. I have put a sidebar for the info here and on these other pages, as this stops browsers having to come to Cuzco#See for information, which is what they currently have to do... Is anyone going to Cusco soon that would be able to get some addresses and phone numbers for the bars and hostels? This article has great potential.

Beggars

Removed conflicting opinions on giving to beggars and replaced with a simple description of street beggars in Cuzco, and a link to the Begging article, which discusses pros and cons of giving hand-outs. If this approach is not acceptable, please revert.

Get out section

I was going to put up photos of the three of the four archaeological sites at the beginning of this section. However I noted the declaration at the beginning of the section that it does not conform to the Manual of Style. I don't understand why. I looked at Project:Where you can stick it as well and the places would seem to be correctly placed here. I think it is important because these and other sites could have considerable appeal to visitors to Cuzco. Could somebody please explain what needs changing?

Name

Hi, everyone. I don't have any personal stake in how we spell the name of this city, but: (1) the standard is what spelling is used most in English, not in Spanish or Quechua; (2) any change in the spelling of the article's name needs to be accepted by a consensus and the article needs to be moved accordingly before the city's name is changed throughout the article. Unilaterally changing all the spellings here and/or in links from other articles is essentially a form of vandalism, though not so intended.

Having said all that, I notice that both Commons and Wikipedia are using Cusco for their spelling. So is there any important reason for Wikivoyage not to also change the spelling of this article to Cusco? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:33, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Agreed that Wikipedia isn't the only source, but it is a very important one.

If an edit on Wikivoyage is inconsistent with Wikipedia, or directly contradicts Wikipedia, then we should at the very least discuss why that is so. As an English speaker who has never visited Latin America, I could very easily be wrong but ...

To me Cusco seems obviously correct, following our policy of the commonest English name. I had never even seen any other spelling until this controversy erupted. In a Google fight, Cusco gets 34 million hits & Cuzco only 13 million. WP uses Cusco though others, like Lonely Planet & UNESCO, use Cuzco. Pashley (talk) 08:02, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Google search results prove nothing, because they count Spanish-language uses. I have been familiar with the Cuzco spelling for decades, probably because my atlases and maps starting in the 1970s used it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:27, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
