Rename to Outback NSW?

I didn't really realise this until recently, but it appears that the name "Far West" is quite ambiguous. Sometimes Dubbo, about 300km east of the eastern most point of the Far West region, is sometimes considered to be "Far West" or "Western NSW" but in actual fact, it's in the Central West (New South Wales) (according to ABC news). It appears that the name "Far west" is mainly used for health districts, but that's not the actual name of the region when it comes to a travel point of view, where this name is officially called "Outback NSW". From what I remember, the border between South Australia and New South Wales uses "Outback NSW" (I just checked Google Street Trekker for confirmation and not this one). So... instead of using NSW Health district names and use tourism regions? Especially when we're using tourism region borders, but Health District names? Banner

There is currently a discussion on Talk:Rail travel in Australia about changing this banner. In summary, the reason why I propose we use the current banner on Rail travel in Australia is because the current banner is grossly misleading – there are only two train routes, and both use the same tracks. This new banner is of Mungo National Park, which is arguably the region's most significant natural attraction, but I've cropped a photo near the Walls of China's western end to portray the mixed landscapes found throughout Outback NSW. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 09:34, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Subregions?

Category:Outback New South Wales has 22 city and park articles breadcrumbed underneath it. While 22 is not a lot to warrant regionalisation, there are many parks and towns in this region that don't have their own articles. I'll be a bit busy for the next two weeks (but I have some spare time on my hands today and will have some tomorrow), so I probably won't start this after Nov 27, but for now, what you see on the right are the proposed regions.

To put it simply, I propose that Outback NSW be divided into three subregions: Lower Darling, Far West, and Northwestern New South Wales. Some practical reasons for this:

• Lower Darling is often visited on a weekend trip by many Victorians. The other regions are not.
• The Far West is often said to be the true Outback, while Northwestern NSW and the Lower Darling can be argued either way.
• Northwestern New South Wales is a lot more developed, and noticeably home to many bore baths of the Great Artesian Basin.

One of the flaws you might notice is with the Lower Darling, which would only have four articles breadcrumbed to it as soon as this is regionalised. However, we do not have articles for Euston, Yanga National Park, and Pooncarie, adding this to seven, while Buronga is covered in Mildura. Being completely ignorant of the region, I'd just ask if this is a problem that could be solved by adding subheads to the `Cities` and other relevant subsections? One issue I've noticed with many subregion pages is the often barren See/Do/Buy/Eat/Etc sections. This page doesn't feel overwhelming to me as is, but IDK what you have planned. To answer your question, I suppose it could work, but it probably won't work for long. Although the sections are short, in particular the eat/drink, the simple answer is that there isn't a lot to say about eat/drink. LOL, yeah the answer to these questions is always, "Will it make things clearer for visitors AND do you have the bandwidth to create all the content?". If yes, than go for it. I support the proposal. It doesn't seem absolutely necessary to regionalise this going by the number of cities and other destinations, but due to the region's large area, and significant internal differences, I believe that it would be an improvement. Twsabin (talk) 11:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Need some opinions on a possible regionalisation

Apologies for the excessive brigading (if you perceive it that way), but I'm looking for some opinions before regionalising Outback New South Wales. I started the discussion on Nov 17 (11 days ago, as of writing this), have listed it on Wikivoyage:Requests for comment, but haven't received any comments. In particular, the reason I'm raising this in the pub is because I don't feel too comfortable regionalising a region article with no comment.
