Too many Cities?

[edit]

Removing the red links would reduce the list to 10 cities. Kaduna State has 3 cities, so, remove one of them. Then we have a list of 9 cities. But I'm not shure that we have to do this reduction now, because North West Nigeria is the lowest level region article. When new articles per State would be made, then the North West Nigeria is no longer the lowest level, but higher level region article, and the list should be reduced. --FredTC (talk) 12:57, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think for now, we should just cover the red links in invisible text until someone creates it. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:19, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Right now the red links make up a kind of to do list. That will disappear if you hide them. Maybe we must copy/move those links to a to do list in Wikivoyage:Nigeria café. --FredTC (talk) 13:29, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, just add a message in the Nigeria café. Hopefully it gets attention. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:39, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's fine to have more than nine cities listed in a bottom-level region, though it can sometimes be a sign that the article should be split into subregions. I don't think we're at that point yet for this article. —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:48, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Given the ongoing work on the Nigeria Expedition, let's leave the red links for now. If that project comes to an end, we can discuss this again. I don't know if we have a policy about lists of red links. We should, but that would be a discussion for the broader community. Ground Zero (talk) 16:54, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the assessments above. Right now we have our work cut out making sure the new destination articles are correct, and I think we should focus on keeping up with the basics. When the project is complete or the pace has slowed we can start to think about how to organize the content. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:58, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cities section

[edit]

I've mostly finished my intended cleanup of this region, to the point where Category:North West Nigeria now only lists articles of Nigerian states and I made a regionlist and coloured the map. However, the § Cities section now violates wv:7+2 as this is a non-bottom level region, and I don't know which ones should go and which should stay. Any thoughts? I was thinking of listing all capital cities, but it seems we don't have an article for all the capital cities of states. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:54, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Kambai Akau: can you help us select which nine cities should be included in the list in this article? The other cities would be only in the state articles for this region. Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 18:04, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Ground Zero. Of course. There are seven states in geopolitical North West Nigeria. The biggest cities and strongest contenders are obviously their state capitals: Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Gusau, Dutse, Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi. One of the other two slots could go to the Nok culture area where Kafanchan is the largest city and could take the slot; and the other could go to the mother historical city state of the Hausas, Daura. This is my view. Thanks and warm regards. Kambai Akau (talk) 19:25, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks for your help. Ground Zero (talk) 20:11, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
