Hello, Jjtkk! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. sats (talk) 07:19, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi sats! I'm not really new, I just switched to my global account. Jjtkk (talk) 07:23, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Are you Jjtk? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:34, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
well you need something on your talk page :) - wow are you using the beta of the the global sign in that is starting soon - ? sats (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I switched because I started to upload to Commons. sats, see Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition‎, I'm trying it out for myself on some Polish destinations now. Jjtkk (talk) 07:48, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Btw the headings to the sections of dark green in that space (Banner Expedition page) render the text almost invisible, if you are into fixing that sort of problem at all... sats (talk) 07:55, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Nay, I have no idea how tables work. Jjtkk (talk) 16:03, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Great banner for Scotland!

[edit]

I really like the banner you put on the Scotland page; it's a brilliant choice of photo. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 23:25, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Yeah, the photo is stunning. Jjtkk (talk) 08:35, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Accommodation listing

[edit]

Hello there. I've noticed that you just reverted accommodation listing added by User:TDECHAUX on Paris/7th arrondissement‎ and Île-de-France and marked them as spam. Will you please check, if this listing should also be deleted? --Saqib (talk) 10:34, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, these are repeated on different levels (which is forbidden), badly formatted, provide no real information (only phrases like "mix leisure and business in a traditional ambiance"), no rates and are most likely written by an employee of the hotel. But after your intervention it's much better, so I don't know. O, see Jjtkk (talk) 10:44, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I would have deleted them all as clearly promotional. Touting is kind of a pernicious thing on a site like this one, because it makes our listings unreliable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:52, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ikan is right that's why I've removed that listing. --Saqib (talk) 11:05, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Thank you for making this change. It looks much better. Is there a specific tool you used, to get the dimensions right and create all the correct information at Commons:File:Naples Florida banner.jpg? Or did you do that manually? I noticed you removed the banner from Louisville (which didn't really fit right), but before manually creating a fitting replacement I'd like to know if there's an easier way. All the best, Quadell (talk) 18:29, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Follow-up: After reading Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition and trying out the "derivativeFX" Commons upload tool, I think I've got it figured out. I only had MS-Paint to work with, so if someone else wants to make a better banner, I certainly won't object, but for now I'm pretty happy with the results. What do you think? Quadell (talk) 19:03, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, very nice! Yeah, I also use the "derivativeFX" thing for upload and crop photos using Photoshop, but I think most basic programs are good for this task. Jjtkk (talk) 20:24, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the great work on adding page banners. --Saqib (talk) 09:07, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! It's no work, it's fun ;) Jjtkk (talk) 18:34, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

UNESCO

[edit]

Hey Jjtkk. I just wanted to confirm that after Danapit added some of them, you added the last few new sites for 2013? It's good to keep the list completely up-to-date each year, rather than there being patchiness with some 2013 sites listed but some missing. So just want to make sure that I can update the note at the top of the page to say it's completely up-to-date for this year. Thanks for your work. James Atalk 13:17, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Yes, it's up-to-date. Sorry, I should have changed the caption at the top of the page, I'll do it now. Jjtkk (talk) 18:30, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
No problem, that's great! Thanks for adding them. James Atalk 00:57, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
In fact I intended to add all of them, but after I interrupted the editing for a bit, Jjtkk took over. I appreciate it, great cooperation! Danapit (talk) 08:37, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I saw that. Thanks to you as well Danapit! Were you updating the list as they announced the new sites live? James Atalk 08:50, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Not really. I was just reading regular on-line news and there was a short article about Mt. Fuji UNESCO status. I was thinking about updating it at Wikivoyage and opened the UNESCO page for first-hand information only to find out about the other sites, as well. Danapit (talk) 09:20, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Wikivoyage Barncompass
Every time I check the Recent Changes, I seem to see your name popping up, adding yet another banner to some article. You're tireless work in creating beautiful page banners for our articles is appreciated. Thanks and please keep it up! :)

James Atalk 10:15, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Very well deserved. --Saqib (talk) 11:54, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks guys! Jjtkk (talk) 14:12, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Doha

[edit]

Hey Jjtkk. The Doha banner was recently deleted on Commons due to no FoP. However, as stated at Wikivoyage_talk:Banner_Expedition#Not_free_banners, we can upload it locally in that category I mentioned. So if you still have the file on your computer, you may want to reupload it :) James Atalk 02:34, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ach, I wanted to upload it here some days ago but something didn't work and later I forgot. I have the file, but now that the source file is deleted from Commons I don't know the author, licence etc. Jjtkk (talk) 08:49, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oooh, that's annoying. User:LtPowers is an admin on Commons I believe, so you may wish to nudge him for the info. James Atalk 14:00, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Jjtkk, you seem to be a cropping specialist. Is there a way to do it online without installing software? That is not allowed at my company computer. Otherwise i need an Ipad solution. Regards, jan (talk) 15:53, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I use Photoshop and I know there are also free equivalents but they all require installing. Another option is that when you find a great photo that could be used for banner you post on talk page of the article and another user with software comes and crops it later. For me finding the best photo takes the longest. Jjtkk (talk) 16:07, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here's the match! Actually finding the pics is easy. Commons has categories called Panorama xyz e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Panorama_di_Genova I just typ panorama and the name of the city / place and it offers huge options. You should be spoilt with choices. I might add a list on the my user page and share it with you if that is fine for you. jan (talk) 16:15, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm yet to find an online solution, although they probably do exist. The best free software would be Paint.NET and the Gimp. James Atalk 02:06, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I know of these categories on Commons. Finding pics is sometimes easy, but in other less popular areas (like parts of Africa) it becomes quite hard. Jjtkk (talk) 06:51, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

xl Travemünde

[edit]

Grüezi Jjtkk, i reverted your last edit in Travemünde due to an issue with xl. It is common practice only to frontlink internal WV links. External links are in general not added in the brackets. Thank you for your contributions and please don't be set of by the reversion. jan (talk) 10:29, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, jan. It changed ;) See Xl#External link format Jjtkk (talk) 10:31, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
1st July changed, correct. ok, i was not up to date...jan (talk) 10:38, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

SIM card in Poland

[edit]

Hi Jjtkk! Thank you for updating the information in Tourist Office. Very helpful. Dziękuję! Danapit (talk) 17:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proszę bardzo! What areas will you visit in Poland? Jjtkk (talk) 08:02, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
We want to travel from N Germany to Finland via Poland a Baltic states (and back via Sweden and Denmark). In Poland we will drive along the coast toward Kaliningrad (and continue around it because we can't be bothered to do the visa thing) with no real plan except of stopping when we see something interesting. Without not much preparations in advance I think having data link is quite handy to consult WV as we move. :) Danapit (talk) 08:29, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deleting outline articles

[edit]

In case you didn't know, there's a discussion about deleting outlines at Wikivoyage talk:Deletion policy#Deleting empty articles. Globe-trotter (talk) 00:28, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I've seen parts of this discussion few weeks ago but forgot where it was and was afraid it died away. It's great it didn't. Jjtkk (talk) 06:45, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
But see also Wikivoyage:Deletion_policy#Deleting_vs._redirecting. Policy is to redirect real places not to delete them. There are three you have tagged for speedy deletion (Category:Speedy deletion candidates) that I think you should have just redirected. Pashley (talk) 03:58, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's been one week since you tagged those 3 articles for speedy deletion so I've redirected them to Świętokrzyskie per our policy. --Saqib (talk) 14:01, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Shouldn't they have been deleted and then possibly recreated, per linked above by Globe-trotter discussion? Sorry, I'm away. Jjtkk (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the banner

[edit]

Thank you for the banner at Winter driving. It is very nice. --LPfi (talk) 07:55, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Adding banners to Wikidata

[edit]

Hi! Thank you very much for all the nice banners you are making! But I have one question: why do you always put banners into the {{pagebanner}} template instead of directly adding them to the Wikidata element? If you added banners to Wikidata, they would automatically appear in all other language versions. --Alexander (talk) 13:26, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, sorry, I didn't know how, I know nothing about Wikidata. I just saw tutorial at Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition I'll try to do it that way now. Jjtkk (talk) 14:07, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
When you click the "Data item" link in the left panel, you get to the Wikidata page, where you can add the property "Wikivoyage banner" and ascribe the file name to it. Then the {{pagebanner}} template will read this filename and display the same banner in all language versions. --Alexander (talk) 16:29, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, in principle I don't have any objections adding banners to Wikidata, however there were some concerns raised. I have seen banners appearing on wv articles, that were added directly to wikidata with wrong sizes, and we have no control whatsoever over this process. When a banner item changes on wikidata, it won't appear on the watchlist either. Danapit (talk) 14:39, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Danapit! 100% of discussions here end in stalemate, but it is not the reason not to plunge forward. Wikivoyage should either stay out of Wikidata completely, or use it extensively. Reading interwiki's from Wikidata might lead to same problems as you mentioned above. Nevertheless, it does not, and therefore I hope that banners will work as well. In fact, the more language versions see the wrong banner (wrong size, wrong image, whatever...), the higher the chance someone will spot the problem and eventually correct it. --Alexander (talk) 16:29, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Toulouse

[edit]

The "thank" button wasn't showing up, so I'm doing the "old-fashioned" thing and posting a thank-you note on your user talk page. Great job! There's more to do, but the article is already looking a lot better. When we're done with Toulouse, Rouen needs help. I added 3 photos, but that's another French city I have yet to visit. I've already done work on all or virtually all the French cities and towns I've visited (which include Paris, Nice, several places in Provence, Burgundy, and the Loire Valley), and then some. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:20, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I haven't been to Toulouse either, luckily it's easy to find some nice shots on Commons (can't say that about many African destinations, like Mogadishu). Jjtkk (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Krakow/Katowice Airport

[edit]

Hi Guys! I wanted to upload the list of the destinations served from Katowice Airport, as it's the airport, which is s second airport serving Krakow city. the same is with Bergamo airport and Linate in Milan, or Sandefjord and Gardemoen in Oslo. Even despite lack of "Krakow" in its name, lots of people living in UK tend to chooose Katowice. What is more, the airport is a good alternative for the flights to/from Krakow, as the airlines operating from both are different, and offer different days or hours of flights.

Take care, thanks —The preceding comment was added by 83.29.167.174 (talkcontribs)

Hi, this discussion should take place at Talk page of corresponding article so I'll copy your argument and answer there.
All best. Jjtkk (talk) 16:29, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Tours in Bergen

[edit]

Regarding listing of tours in Bergen. I agree that these tours may not be fully appropriate according to policy, but on the other hand it is not clear that they should be deleted altogether. Best regards, --Erik den yngre (talk) 17:51, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
