Congratulations!![edit]

Lately, I've been trolling Commons for "Valued images." You are the photographer of 4 new ones, of Mohenjo-Daro. Congratulations!!

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:36, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --Saqib (talk) 16:48, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your edits to V. S. K. Valasai‎‎ and for fixing the format of my user page.

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:18, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mention it.--Saqib (talk) 22:20, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Revert[edit]

Hi, User:Saqib! Thank you for helping reverting the hooligan Boeing 737's vandalism. However as I returned the content to your user and talk pages and tagget VAVAVAVVA etc. for deletion, you reverted my edits. Why? ϒpsilon (talk) 10:02, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because the way you're dealing with things is incorrect. --Saqib (talk) 10:06, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ypsilon:. This is not the way to deal with page move vandalism. Redirects should not be created. @Ikan Kekek: I don't understand why you blocked Saqib. I can confirm that it isn't hijacked. An admin needs to delete all the nonsense pages created by the vandal. --Glaisher (talk) 10:06, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why am I blocked? --Saqib (talk) 10:13, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have unblocked the account. Like Glaisher I don't see evidence it is hijacked. On the contrary Saqib has been doing tremendous work fixing the vandalism. Nurg (talk) 10:14, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Nurg. This has left a stain of block on my account. --Saqib (talk) 10:16, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) OK, I didn't know that. ϒpsilon (talk) 10:17, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Saqib. I thought I had posted an explanation and apology for why I blocked your account for 20 minutes. It sure looked to me like your account was hijacked, because the histories of vandal articles looked like you had started them. Oh, I just realized: The explanation was in the User talk:Saqib that I deleted in order to restore this version, which had been moved to User talk:VAVAVAVA but had the history. Anyway, this is no stain at all on your record, but I highly recommend you change your password, in case I really am not wrong that your account was hijacked. And now, I'll go back to deleting more fake articles, if that's still needed. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:21, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And if I misunderstood what I was seeing in the histories of vandalism articles, I apologize. In any case, no ill will toward you whatsoever was intended. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:26, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) IK, I'm sure my account was not hijacked. All of edits I made today are done by me. I want you to check my today's contributions closely. You'll notice that I moved back the vandalised pages but over redirects and later I tagged those nonsense redirects for speedy deletion. The reason why I reverted YPSI edits on my user page because I wanted to move back User:VAVAVAVAVA to User:Saqib because otherwise the history of my user page was losing. --Saqib (talk) 10:28, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The thing that I don't understand is that your username appeared first on many of the vandalism pages I deleted, and it said things like "++++++++ moved to [name of policy page] over redirect". If you didn't create the page, why did the rest of the history before your action disappear? All that was there, often, was that action by you and then Ypsi's "speedy" notice. Can you understand why I was confused? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, this was just explained to me on my user talk page. I'm very sorry; you were not only an innocent bystander, but doing your best to help. I hope you can accept my apology, as I was acting in good faith and not to hurt you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:36, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! --Saqib (talk) 10:45, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Something should be done about how the wiki software works to prevent this in the future. I bet situations like these can and do happen much more often on WP. Also look who's allegedly replaced Saqib's user page and talk page as well as MoS and it's talk page with a delete tag :P ϒpsilon (talk) 10:56, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! Your bad YPSI. --Saqib (talk) 10:59, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
An abusefilter could be setup to prevent this. --Glaisher (talk) 11:08, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How? I should say, though, this amount of abuse this quickly is very unusual on this site, to date. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:13, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikan Kekek: Sorry for the delay. It would be easy to prevent page moves by newbies. There are two options; an abusefilter or changing the criteria for autoconfirmed status as only confirmed users can move pages. Currently, users are automatically confirmed after 4 days of account creation. An edit is not needed. If criteria for autoconfirmed is changed, then not only would this affect moving, but other permissions as well, such as editing semi-protected pages. See Special:ListGroupRights. On the other hand if an abusefilter is used, we can use it to prevent page moves by newbies, without affecting other permissions such as editing semi-protected pages. Of course, if an abusefilter is used more tweaks can be done. This should be discussed by the local community. Regards, --Glaisher (talk) 15:24, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:27, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This has been happening on a regular basis on other larger wikis; given that many vandals only hit English wikis, it was bound to happen sooner or later. --Rschen7754 20:15, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Map of Athens Needed[edit]

Hi Saqib! Athens' article is in pretty bad shape as I signposted in its talk page. I'm volunteering to help with city districtification. Unfortunately I experienced some troubles downloading a map from openstreet.org. Can you do it next days? Let me know, please. --Gobbler (talk) 02:06, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon me. I didn't get what you said. You want to insert a OSM in the article or you want me to draw a Wikivoyage-styled district map? --Saqib (talk) 12:48, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I want you to draw a Wikivoyage-styled district map. I know the city --Gobbler (talk) 21:21, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I once tried to draw a map based on current district-ification but couldn't able to as the current district-ification is way to complex but based on your proposed district-ification on the article's talk page, I can give it another try but I think first you've to make sure we're going to use your proposed district-ification. --Saqib (talk) 21:27, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I got it. So it's better to wait for user:Handrian --Gobbler (talk) 18:14, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine with me. --Saqib (talk) 20:17, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the districtification of Athens, a Wikivoyage-styled district map can be drawn now, however, I don't know how to do it. --Handrian (talk) 02:50, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, thank you for your kind words. You might have seen that i work a bit on Munich. The only district missing a map is Munich/South-West. It is wide, so an OSM map for the Get around section would be great. If you have time it would be great. The map would need to include the big train station in Pasing (last backbone station) and the commuter hub Solln in the south. I played a bit with OSM but didn't got a satisfying map. Hope you travel a lot and best regards, jan (talk) 14:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jan, all the district articles of Munich using dynamic maps and I think you're looking to insert the same dynamic map into Munich/South-West as well. Right? --Saqib (talk) 14:49, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Correct and thanks. jan (talk) 15:08, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dead Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque photo links[edit]

Hi, Saqib. Do you happen to have any friends in Oman who might be able to upload good new photos of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat to Commons? Most of the photos of the mosque seem to have been deleted from Commons, which is very unfortunate for several reasons, including its bad effects on the Muscat guide and its Dotm nomination.

Also, let me take this opportunity to thank you again for all the magnificent work you do.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:54, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just transferred plenty of photographs from Flickr. Please have a look at commons:Category:Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. --Saqib (talk) 08:55, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful! I will have a look when I feel more awake. :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:15, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. It was my pleasure to assist you. --Saqib (talk) 09:22, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In the end, I was still awake long enough to use a couple of images. I still hope for a better image of the Svarovski crystal in the dome, which Commons used to have an outstandingly clear and impressive photo for. If you happen to come across a usable one without someone's name on the photo, please upload that, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:34, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I've got some bad news for you. See commons:User_talk:Saqib#File:Sultan_qaboos_grand_mosque_13.jpg. --Saqib (talk) 09:42, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's a shame. So it looks like we need someone to upload photos of this mosque (and eventually, other buildings in Oman) locally. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:45, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Under fair usage rule. --Saqib (talk) 09:48, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I posted about this to User:StellarD's talk page. Perhaps she has some photos. I hope so. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:49, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like your admin tools back?[edit]

Saqib, I think your behavior has been exemplary ever since you were promoted back to regular member. I would support a return of your admin tools with a nomination if you would like them back. Just let me know. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:50, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why not. I've been missing the tools since I lost them. --Saqib (talk) 11:40, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll make the nomination within 24 hours. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:45, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your trust and confidence. --Saqib (talk) 11:49, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:58, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're on the Administrator rolls again, Saqib. That is a sign of the faith and trust you have earned from the community. Congratulations. Powers (talk) 14:35, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --Saqib (talk) 14:37, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Voting[edit]

Saqib, as you know, i edit WV for about two weeks after the retirement last year because i got some feedback that the crosswiki Travemünde cooperation was not as easy as i hoped for. I took the time to read the stuff about your "free will" admin removal. I guess with the move to the WMF, implictly the rules of the foundation were part of the package. I'm not comfortable with some of the new rules incl. the enforcement and therefore will refrain from participating in policy discussions to not start emotions/discussions again. Personally i would prefer to abstain in your nomination because i believe many things went wrong in the whole process. You do good work and have my respect. I hope you understand my reasons. Regards, jan (talk) 15:21, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is not important at all to vote on my RfA. Whatever choice you make, it is entirely your own decision. --Saqib (talk) 15:52, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Saqib, i think participation is important and imho you have not been judged on a level playing field for your actions. I respect past decisions by the community but wanted to let you know the reasons because silence leaves room for interpretation. jan (talk) 16:19, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for letting me know. --Saqib (talk) 17:26, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqiq, I would ask you if on your spare time you could create the 6 regional maps for the 6 territories that compose the article in the subject. I've explicitely link the Italian version because in my opinion there's a big mess in the English version (I would comment it later). The details of each single map can be taken from the the map present also in en:voy, while territory division can be taken from the second map present on it:voy. Considering that Burma it's a "long" nation, I would cut each map focusing on the specific region. Please let me know, --Andyrom75 (talk) 07:28, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Andy. I'll look into it as early as possible. --Saqib (talk) 10:24, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit or create new maps of Manhattan/Chinatown and Manhattan/Lower East Side?[edit]

Hi, Saqib. On Talk:Manhattan/Chinatown, there's been agreement that the boundaries of the map for Manhattan's Chinatown should be extended further east from Pike Street and the East River to Allen St. and Delancey St. (specifically, I would say that both sides of Pike and Allen should be included, but only the southern side of Delancey, and I'd also say that NoLiTa, which is included in the article, should start just west of Bowery, with both sides of the Bowery between Delancey and Houston St. included in the Lower East Side). If you'd like to extend the static map, that could be tricky because a number of places now in the Manhattan/Lower East Side article should be inserted. The other tricky thing is that the map for the Lower East Side would have to be edited to exclude the area that's being moved from there to the Chinatown map. Perhaps it would be easy to just move that area from one map to the other? Otherwise, since User:PerryPlanet understandably isn't feeling motivated to edit static maps anymore, new dynamic maps would need to be created for the Chinatown article and the Lower East Side article. Would you like to create them?

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:26, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm having difficulty understanding it but I'm still willing to help you with this. I've tied both of the maps together. Can you please use an image editing program and draw new boundaries both for Chinatown and Lower East Side. --Saqib (talk) 12:29, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot, Saqib! However, that doesn't look right, as there's a bunch of empty (non-white) space between Chinatown and the Lower East Side that shouldn't be there. I may try to edit the image later today, but if it's too difficult, it may have to wait for a while. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:26, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This map is just for my reference so I can know about where is the new suggested boundary. The finished map will be free of glitches. --Saqib (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi IK, are you having trouble editing the map? --Saqib (talk) 13:18, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have time right now, so this will be delayed for at least a couple of days. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:30, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Shoot, I could not understand you due to language barrier but let me try. Is this what you suggested above? --Saqib (talk) 22:11, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If the boundaries are the solid orange lines, no, that would make Chinatown way too big. I'll try to make an edit after I'm finished with all my final grading and anything else that's urgent. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:28, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Saqib. I finally got the chance to try my hand at this map with Photoshop.
File:Manhattan mockup map edited.png
Map showing the boundaries I propose for Manhattan's Chinatown on Wikivoyage
. Everything to the west and south of the black line is in Chinatown; the rest, south of Houston St., is in the Lower East Side. Does this make sense to you? There should never be any space between Chinatown and the Lower East Side, which border and blend into each other. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:26, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi IK, I've made the changes to both of the maps. Please have a look and let me know if you want me further improve them. --Saqib (talk) 08:11, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! There is one more thing: The words "LOWER EAST SIDE" should be removed from the Chinatown map, as there is no longer room for them in the area we are now allotting to the Lower East Side article. And if you want to, at some future point, you could add some new listings to the Lower East Side map and move some listings from the Lower East Side map to the Chinatown map, but I don't think any of that is urgent. I'll move some of the listings themselves around. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:11, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Label "LOWER EAST SIDE" has been removed. I've moved a few listings from Lower East Side map to Chinatown map and then I compared the listings on the maps with the listings in articles and I found that except a one or two listings, everything else is already in place. --Saqib (talk) 09:23, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Eventually, there will be more listings. For example, there's a Quality Inn on Ludlow St. on the Lower East Side (I think; I have to check), and I hope some people will add listings of some of the more popular bars that I avoid, due to loud music, overcrowding, and expensive drinks. I guess I should add Pianos, though. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:58, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Once listings added to articles, please let me know and I'll update maps accordingly. --Saqib (talk) 10:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You bet, and thanks again! Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:16, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Howrah Railway Station[edit]

Walekum-as-salam saquib i have read your message. I wanted to tell you that if we merge the page with the Kolkata, won't it look bad. Because i wanted to give complete info on the station and merging won't make it look good. Do u have any other option? —The preceding comment was added by Shaane Khan (talkcontribs)

Khan, it won't look bad if you merge only the useful part of information. You don't need to merge all the stuff into Kolkata article. Wikivoyage is not encyclopaedia and we only need information that is relevant and useful for a traveller. For instance, we don't need to write detailed history about the railway station. Why don't you take a look at "By train" section of Karachi article. And please when you make comments on talk pages, make sure to sign them by using four tildes "~". Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. --Saqib (talk) 11:49, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. As i am a new wikipedian i don't know much about these rules. —The preceding comment was added by Shaane Khan (talkcontribs)
No problem Khan. Feel free to ask me whenever you need any help. Enjoy your stay here. --Saqib (talk) 11:52, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would also request you to check the Ajmer article which I edited few days ago —The preceding comment was added by Shaane Khan (talkcontribs)
Yes, I saw that. Good work Khan. And again, when you make comments on talk pages, make sure to sign them by using four tildes "~" --Saqib (talk) 11:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to merge the Howrah Railway Station article. How do you delete an Article? Shaane Khan (talk) 12:02, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Once you're done, let me know and I will delete it. --Saqib (talk) 12:03, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
now i have merged the info in the kolkata page (you should look at it once) now please delete the page. Shaane Khan (talk) 12:11, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done. --Saqib (talk) 12:12, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for explaining me. Now please see the Kolkata page and check for any error(s). Shaane Khan (talk) 12:14, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
hey saquib i just found out a serious mistake in the Kolkata page and its adjoining pages. Would you like to help me out? Shaane Khan (talk) 12:21, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Which mistakes? --Saqib (talk) 12:44, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing copyvio issues[edit]

Hi Saqib,

I'm almost done fixing articles that previously contained copyvio content. In the meanwhile, do you mind sending me deleted articles ( Kelmend, Valbona, Gusinje, Plav, Prokletije National Park, Prijepolje, Novi Pazar, Sremski Karlovci)? What is the way to do this - email? Thanks Dronych (talk) 15:55, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for late response. I almost forgot to reply you back. Sure, I'll send you the deleted material by e-mail tomorrow. --Saqib (talk) 22:02, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, just wanted to remind you about sending me this deleted material. Thanks --Dronych (talk) 19:36, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done. --Saqib (talk) 20:17, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, man, thanks! --Dronych (talk) 21:36, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page deletion[edit]

Hi Saqib, Thank you for your interest in the Mid Canterbury page, I was creating. While I was creating it - it appears you deleted it for copyright issues. However I hold the permission/copyright to that content. Can you please undelete the page I was working on? Also, under regions of the page "Canterbury" it mentions "Mid and South Canterbury" as one listing - this is incorrect, as each have their own distinct attributes which should be represented. Is there a way to more accurately reflect this? Thanks for your help in advance. Looking forward to creating a complete and accurate picture of Mid Canterbury. Emct (talk) 21:45, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

But "Experience Mid Canterbury" website — from where you took most of the text — clearly mention that stuff on the website is copyrighted. --Saqib (talk) 21:57, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The content has been extracted from the website and the Official Visitors book, and I am an official working for Experience Mid Canterbury with permission to distribute the content as appropriate. Account name correlates with company "EMCT" Happy to send an email verification to your account. Emct (talk) 22:36, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Emct. I would encourage you to read Wikivoyage:Welcome, tourism professionals; it has some useful information on how you can help us improve our guide(s) to Canterbury... and some common pitfalls to avoid. Powers (talk) 00:50, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This edit does not seem to have worked, since on e.g. Ukraine the Ireland parameter disappeared in Read view once someone changed the code for it: cf. [1] and [2]. It Is Me Here t / c 20:43, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've fixed it. --Saqib (talk) 20:47, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sweden map[edit]

Remember this one?

Hi, map master!

Half a year ago you made a map of Sweden's regions. Me and PrinceGloria decided to change the regions again. I was about to modify the map, but then I noticed you've only uploaded the png. If you happen to have the svg version on your hard drive could you please make the following changes:

  1. Gotland, the large island in the middle of the Baltic Sea halfway to Latvia will split off Southeast Sweden and be a separate region organized directly under Sweden.
  2. The rest of Southeast Sweden should be merged with Western Sweden. The name of this region would be Götaland, just like before.

Thanks! ϒpsilon (talk) 14:45, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You gave me a good chuckle YPSI. I still remember my school teacher was used to call me "computer master" even actually when I wasn't and now you calling me "map master" although actually I'm not. Btw, strange I didn't uploaded the source file of Sweden map. Anyway. I've uploaded both the source file as well have modified the map as per you suggested. Please have a look and let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you. --Saqib (talk) 15:14, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Taxila[edit]

I'd like to do with Taxila#See something like what I did at Suzhou#See, list the sites which are included in the (linked) UNESCO listing, then other sites separately. It works for Suzhou with only 9 gardens on the UNESCO list; I'm not certain it would for Taxila with 18 sites. What do you think? Pashley (talk) 18:24, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On a related note, is Talk:Suzhou#Map_update.3F a problem you could solve? Pashley (talk) 18:30, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pashley, thanks for working on Taxila article. I truly appreciate and I think your suggestion is something I should definitely follow but I'll need to learn about each and every site. I've started to gather information about Taxila so hopefully we'll be able list each and every site as a separate listing. As for Suzhou map, I'm sorry but this is an external issue and I'm not into OSM. Feel free to let me know if you may need my assistance with any static map and I'll be happy to help you with that. Thanks! --Saqib (talk) 18:42, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Featurenomination templates[edit]

Hi, Saqib. It's good that you put these templates at the beginning of some articles, but some of the language isn't true in all cases. For example, Saba is not yet a successful nominee. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:42, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Right. At first, I was a bit hesitant to add the template to Saba article when I read on the table "pending fixes and stronger consensus to support" but due to nominations' inclusion in to the table, I added the template. I see no harm in this as if later, the nomination removed from the table due to lack of strong support, definitely the template would be removed too. --Saqib (talk) 05:39, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I just wonder if another template should be developed that says "This article is currently under consideration for x, y or z feature," etc. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:52, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not in favour of too many templates which serve almost same purpose. --Saqib (talk) 05:55, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess others would object, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:56, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I'm not either. Perhaps the text in the current template needs to be modified? Like "and is now a successful featured article candidate." for example.
Articles are nominated when they are put on the nomination page. If they do not get support votes it's because something in the article has to be fixed (if it has already been DotM or someone has nominated an outline etc. it should be slushed directly). On the other hand, there is almost certainly something to fix even in articles that gets support votes from everyone. ϒpsilon (talk) 07:01, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi YPSI, I don't think there is a need to change the text in the template. In my opinion, once a nomination is up there in table, its considered a successful featured article. I think we shouldn't move nominations in the table if something is need to be fixed in the article. --Saqib (talk) 13:18, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please check this over[edit]

I have added a section Islam#Understand. It is certainly incomplete and some of it may be wrong. Pashley (talk) 20:01, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Trunk Road itinerary?[edit]

Several articles -- at least Kim and Taxila, likely others -- mention this road, and it has considerable historical importance. w:Grand Trunk Road has a fair bit of info & a map.

I think it might be a good basis for an itinerary. I am not likely to write one, though I might contribute. Pashley (talk) 18:04, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Trunk Rd or GT Rd, as it is known locally, is certainly one of the historical and important route in the region but I'm not convinced why it should have an article. If compare to Silk Rd, GT Rd doesn't have much significance in my opinion and on the other hand, GT Rd is just remains a major road connecting major cities along the route but it doesn't enjoy the attention of a tourist such is the case of Karakoram Highway. --Saqib (talk) 22:39, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I did one; it seems to me it can do no harm & may do some good per Wikivoyage_talk:Search_Expedition#Index_articles. It is at Grand Trunk Road Pashley (talk) 00:21, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your thoughts on superprotect[edit]

Hi, I see that you first signed, and then retracted your signature, here: meta:Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer

I am interested to know more about your thinking. In your edit summary you indicated that the statement here resonated for you: meta:User talk:LilaTretikov#Our Future and the role of the Foundation

Could you help me understand that connection? I read that statement; while I welcome any expression of what the Board is trying to do, it did not seem to me to address any of the issues brought up in the letter.

But I'm not here to argue, but to try to understand -- can you tell me more? -Pete F (talk) 16:10, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My signature was based on hearing only one side of the story. After going through various links posted in the pub, I've no strong feelings one way or the other so I'll take myself out of this drama. Please excuse. --Saqib (talk) 16:40, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for letting me know. Happy editing! -Pete F (talk) 19:15, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for writing in Usman but I don't like the idea of starting Urdu edition of Wikivoyage at the moment. Maps[edit]

Hi Saqiq, how are you? :-)

I'm writing you to ask a couple of favour.

  1. Very quick. To change the color of Crimea on Ukraine article from yellow to gray, because today is a part of a foreign country (Russia).
  2. More work. To convert the out-of-standard map on Southern Russia into a wikivoyage standard map. Possibly keeping the same colors, to vaoid to change the regionmap template. Once done (if done), could you substitute the map in any language version?

Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:09, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh hello Andy. Nice to hear from you. I'll definitely work on it but please allow me a couple of days. --Saqib (talk) 05:33, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot Saqib. I've spread your Southern Russia map on all the language version. One minor thing on the Ukraine map: the letter "e" of the word "Ukraine" exit from the square box. Could you fix it?
I take the chance to ask you another favour. I've noticed a mistake on the color of the map in Southern Thailand. Currently the color of Phuket island include by mistake also the Ko Yao. While in the Phuket article Ko Yao is listed in the "Go next" section and in the Northern Andaman Coast article is listed in "Other destination". To better visualize what I mean, see the map on the Wikipedia Italian article. Basically, the two big islands plus the minor islands on the east side of Puket should have the same color of the Northern Andaman Coast. ....I hope it's clear enough :-P --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:56, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. --Saqib (talk) 09:45, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for both your quick fixes :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 16:18, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please accept my congratulations for your excellent article "Wiki in Pakistan: Filling in the missing jigsaw pieces" in the Dawn newspaper. It is well written and summarises many facets.

Need help with Deletion Request[edit]

Hi Saqib,

I logged into my account today and found out that a photo that I uploaded for Wiki loves Monuments 2014 had been flagged as a possible copyrights violation. I assure you it is my own work. It has been published in the Caravan Magazine as well but as the creator of this work I enjoy all copyrights to this image.

I noticed that the I cannot take part in the deletion debate anymore please help me out if there is anything that can possibly be done to keep my image in the competition.

Regards, Fahd. (Cyclops1789)

Thanks for your confirmation Fahd. The photo has been kept and won't be deleted! --Saqib (talk) 18:11, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, could you fix in the Ethiopian map the southern border between Gambela and Southern Ethiopia regions according to this map? Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:03, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing. To be coherent with the Jutland map, the map of Funen and Surrounding Islands should be fixed in this way: the small yellow island shall become grey, the near grey island shall become green and the "dotted S" line, shall be removed. I hope it's clear :-P --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:30, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Andy but it was not easy as source files of both maps are missing. --Saqib (talk) 20:26, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, If you have time, could you maybe have a look at Wikivoyage:Star_nominations#Okayama? Chubbychimbus seems to have addressed all the issues we mentioned, so he's hoping we can all review our votes. He added a history section too. Thanks, JuliasTravels (talk)

CSS Testing[edit]

Hi Saqib - you might already know this, but just in case: if you're testing CSS, it's best to use User:Saqib/common.css, and then to copy to MediaWiki:common.css once you've got the changes working and want them deployed for everyone using the site. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:17, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested pictures in Pakistan[edit]

Hi Saqib,

Could you please have someone take a picture of a taxi in Karachi, and upload it to Wikimedia Commons?

Also, 176 pictures of objects/places in Karachi have been requested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_requested_photographs_in_Karachi

Chal Malook[edit]

Hi Saqib, best wishes for the new year! Could you have a look at Chak Malook? An anonymous user created it with just a copy-paste line from WP, which I deleted. I'm wondering though if this village is big enough or interesting enough to have an article in the first place. Maybe you have a better idea of that, I can't really find a lot of info. Thanks in advance, JuliasTravels (talk) 12:29, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Best wishes to you too and thanks for letting me know of this. I'm not aware of this place but it seems a tiny village so I don't thnk it merit its entry yet. Anyways, I've redirected it. --Saqib (talk) 12:38, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As an outsider who does not speak either language, I have a question. My understanding is that Hindi & Urdu overlap a lot. Is there any easy way (maybe translation software?) to get two guides for the effort of one? If someone writes in U, translate to H and vice versa. Pashley (talk) 02:28, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not aware of any such Pashley. --Saqib (talk) 10:21, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, could you fix the map in that article? I'm speaking of:

  • match title & title box
  • align "25 miles" with the legenda
  • change the two "Rose Isle" into "Rose Atoll"
  • change "Swains Isle" into "Swains Island"

Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:45, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andy: I've made some changes. BTW the title was correct. --Saqib (talk) 21:50, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The file was an svg, so "maybe" is rendered differently from brower to browser. However, now the title is fine. Please change the second "Rose Isle" into "Rose Atoll" (the one in the box), and then is perfect. Thanks! --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:46, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have made the changes. Such minor changes doesn't matter in my opinion. --Saqib (talk) 20:14, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nashik[edit]

Thanks :-) No matter, I'm going to clean Nashik up but... what a mess! --Gobbler (talk) 23:58, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting that article! There's a bit of information in the "See" and "Go next" sections of the Vadodara article that I was working on tonight which could be moved or copied to the new article and then considerably enlarged. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:04, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. --Saqib (talk) 11:04, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should we ignore vandals?[edit]

I didn't plan on notifying that vandal of the block, just gradually increasing the amount of time of the block, after having mentioned that any further vandalism would result in a block without notice. I'm keeping in mind the idea that vandals thrive on being noticed. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is very helpful to have a note on user talk page if the user has been blocked at some point. I usually check the user credibility and reputation through their user talk page. --Saqib (talk) 10:45, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. But perhaps further blocks shouldn't be noted? Do you think a day was enough? I think if the problem recurs, I will go straight to an indefinite block. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, 24hr block is enough. --Saqib (talk) 12:56, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket[edit]

Hi. As I found nothing that would make me think otherwise, I hope you have some knowledge concerning the topic of Cricket. We currently don't have an article about that, even though we have articles about association football, Rugby football, American football and Baseball in the United States. Even if you don't know anything about the topic, I would greatly appreciate your contribution here . Best wishes Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:35, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hobbitschuster: I'll look into it some time soon! --Saqib (talk) 19:16, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:28, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have you found time? I would like coverage on that subject, but other than "incredible confusing baseball-like game played by Commonwealth member nations and a huge deal in most of those" I know next to nothing about this sport. Hobbitschuster (talk) 16:24, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
After defeat of Pakistan in recent World Cup 2015, I've almost started to hate both our cricket team as well this pointless sport itself. You know it was such a shameful defeat but anyways, I'll soon begin working on the guide. I hope you will grant me some time. --Saqib (talk) 16:45, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I know that feeling. I was almost demanding a rule change after my favorite team lost the 2013 German American Football championship in the most dramatic fashion imaginable ;-). Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:33, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Telangana[edit]

Hello Saqib, I was wondering if you could update this map of Southern India, to include the Telangana region. Also maybe you could add Hyderabad to the map, because it is a major city, being a co-capital of two provinces. Thank you for your time. Abrahamic Faiths (talk) 16:10, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Done. --Saqib (talk) 19:02, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Irish map[edit]

I need a courtesy if possible. Could you create a new map for Ireland starting from the one that you find in en:voy but using the border that you see on it:voy and the motorway update that you can find in the link mentioned over here? It would be really great.

The new map would be used immediately in it:voy and fr:voy, while en:voy should wait that someone will work over all the current articles. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:58, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I can help with this but I cannot figure out what changes you want me to make. Come to IRC when you're free (preferably night) and let me know so we can discuss it. --Saqib (talk) 09:13, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Saqib, you always crack me up! :-DDD However, as usual you map is excellent; just add the arrow and the legenda. Thanks a lot! --Andyrom75 (talk) 19:50, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Andy. The MAP and its source file has been uploaded. Please try to restart the discussion here on Ireland talk page and get the new region list implemented. If the new region list makes sense for other versions of Wikivoyage, obviously it should work here, too. --Saqib (talk) 10:15, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot Saqib! :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:33, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Revdel[edit]

Hi, Saqib. Can I ask why you thought it was necessary to oversight this edit? It's certainly rude, but it's not vulgar nor did it contain personally identifying information. Powers (talk) 01:09, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found it really offenseive personal attack and I thought comments made could be harmful. --Saqib (talk) 09:09, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template deletions[edit]

Hi Saqib - you deleted a number of templates that are in use throughout the site earlier today. Based on the delete logs I'm guessing you may have imported something and then deleted what was imported, but please be very, very careful when doing so since it looks like you imported about 38 modules, overwriting some existing templates, and then deleted all of them, including the ones that were in use such as Template:Documentation and Template:Tl. We all make occasional mistakes - I've broken CSS, templates and JS at various times - but I did want to recommend that in the future you should probably import pages one at a time, rather than importing a template and all of its dependencies at once. -- Ryan • (talk) • 23:46, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan: Thank you for looking it this and restoring the deleted template(s). I was testing something and had no idea it will bring too much clutter over here. Anyways, will definatetely be careful in future. Applogoes for inconvinicen it may caused to you. --Saqib (talk) 08:55, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Saqib/Main page[edit]

I've recently tagged User:Saqib/MainPage for deletion. Now, I wouldn't write this if it wouldn't be the freaking fifth or sixth time someone other than you creates that page and fills it with some random Russian spam. As they've persisted in doing this so many times, I'm sure they will do it again in a week or two if the page is just deleted. Should this page not be protected? ϒpsilon (talk) 05:55, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the spam and protected it for administrators only - hopefully that's OK. Pages that are repeated targets of spambots can be useful as they allow us to easily identify and block IPs or accounts used for spamming, but if the repeated spamming is bothersome then it is easy to protect the page against future edits. -- Ryan • (talk) • 06:10, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
YPSI, Ryan: Thank you to both of you for taking care of it. It is really weird the same is happening since I posted this. --Saqib (talk) 08:15, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An Unusal request[edit]

Wikivoyage:Joke_articles/Time_travel#Golden_Age_of_the_Caliphate, are there culturally appropriate and notable sights that could reasonably be included, given the significance of the era and region?

Whilst parts of the article are in the tradition of an April 1st item, the intent I had in some of the sections, is to inspire the genuine traveller or scholar. (The section on India for example was written by a Wikisource contributor familiar with that region.).

The era and region are not one I am that familiar with, and so a contribution from someone that knows the region better than I do would be appreciated. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:21, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page deletion[edit]

Hi! I saw that you deleted a short entry I made under Kiparissi Lakonias (Peloponnese - Greece). Being a total newcomer to the field, I am working slowly, thus the entry appears unimportant, but in fact, it is one of the most beautiful on the peninsula. I shall put in the info as a whole, once I have finished with it. —The preceding comment was added by Nature lover (talkcontribs)

I've restored Kyparissi Lakonias as I'm not sure it qualifies for speedy deletion - it wasn't created as page creation vandalism and appears to be a real place, so if it doesn't merit an article it should either be redirected or nominated at WV:Votes for deletion. My preference would be to allow the creator time to work on it and see how it develops before taking any action. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nature lover: Please accept my aplogies for being so hasty. Ryan, your message well noted. Actually I Google to find about the place but found nothing of it. It seemed to me a small village with no defining features that would attract a tourist which according to this page doesn't merit an article. But you're right I should had redirected it instead of speedy deletig. My mistake. I will be careful next time. --Saqib (talk) 17:05, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Granada province[edit]

Hi. I saw you revert the Sleep listings in the Granada_(province) article. As a matter of fact, they're replicated from the Granada page, as they were made simultaneously. No need to keep them in the wrong place, I think. Ibaman (talk) 13:58, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Listing icons[edit]

Hi Saqib, I would ask you a very quick favour. Could you add in commons (if not already existing) the png vesions of the current svg version of the listing icons?

I would substitute them because I've just noticed that the old browsers (like IE8) do not show properly svg file so in the toolbar is possible to see only the mediawiki standard icons (already in png format). Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 16:29, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Helo Andy. I've no idea where SVG's of these listings icons are stored. Can you please provide me links to them. --Saqib (talk) 17:42, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
These are the icon names
  • Italian_traffic_signs_-_icona_museo.svg
  • Pictograms-nps-bicycle_trail-2.svg
  • Italian_traffic_signs_-_icona_supermercato.svg
  • Italian_traffic_signs_-_icona_ristorante.svg
  • Verre_cocktail.svg
  • Pictograms-nps-lodging.svg
  • Italian_traffic_signs_-_icona_informazioni.svg
You can save the png version with the same name, with just the different extension. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 00:16, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Saqib. Curiosity: why have you substituted ".svg" with "-png.png" instead of simply ".png"? --Andyrom75 (talk) 13:19, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have fixed them. --Saqib (talk) 13:33, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Duh, working on almost no sleep[edit]

Look at this silly edit summary I just wrote. Oh well. I'm sure glad I'm not operating any heavy machinery right now! It was a long day but a productive one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:12, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It happens and I think its time for you to get some sleep. --Saqib (talk) 03:39, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish maps[edit]

Hi Saqib, sorry for disturbing you again. Nastoshka is planning to reorganize the subdivision of Sweden on it:voy, according to Talk:Sweden. Some changes in the texts have already been made (here in en:voy as well), but we need updated maps.

Summarizing we've chosen to follow the modern administrative system going by counties in place of the old system based on historical provinces. Could you redraw these two maps:

  1. File:Sverigekarta-Landsdelar Götaland.svg (using File:Sweden location map.svg): just highlight the dark green area in the original map (preferably in red for homogeneity with other articles) cutting off Scania and Gotland (i.e. the southernmost county and the big separate isle on the right between Sweden and Finland). The new map filename could be: Map of northern Götaland.svg
  2. File:Goetaland.png: updating the subdivision using the same one in the previous map in order to show the counties and differentiate them with standard voy colors. All the rest can be kept untouched. The new map filename could be: Northern Götaland travel map.svg (and its relevant .png).

Thanks a lot, for your help, --Andyrom75 (talk) 14:14, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Andy. But I'm not being able to figure out whether you want me to make chanages in Sweden country level map or its region map (Northern Götaland)? Have you noticed that I made the changes you suggested in country level map in June last year. --Saqib (talk) 19:43, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Saqib, I'm sorry if I didn't ask you directly but I'm a bit shy and didn't know you before :-) I've seen your changes in Sweden country level map and it's perfect. Now we should modify the regional map of Northern Götaland. As you know in Talk:Sweden you decided to go by counties (this reorganization was the reason you were asked to redraw the map of Sweden). The map of Northern Götaland, nonetheless, is still organized according to the old provinces. Whence our request to redraw the maps (only the two maps of Götaland). If it is possible I'd ask you to create only the English svg map, then I'll translate it with Inkscape into italian and I'll create the derivative png. Thanks a lot! --Nastoshka (talk) 23:24, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nastoshka: I've created a map for Götaland and uploaded the source file on Commons. I'm aware that lables of many cities are missing but I'm afraid I won't be able to insert more labels as I don't know which cities and towns are worth to mention in the map so I hope you'll take care of it. --Saqib (talk) 13:18, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect Saqib, really thanks! I have some basic knowledge with Inkscape and Gimp and occasionally I create some maps too (naturally much less perfect than yours). With this map of Götaland I had some problem with paths and layers of the original file so I dared to disturb you. Just one question: Have you drawn also the map in point 1 of Andyrom's request? --Nastoshka (talk) 21:00, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nastoshka: You've crafted a nice map of Mallorca. As for #1. I guess Andy was talking about Sweden country-level map which is already fixed one year ago as I told you above or is there anything else? Anyways, feel free to let me know if you may any need any assistance. --Saqib (talk) 21:28, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Saqib and thanks for having changed my rights here. What I and Andyrom meant was indeed a country level map but not the same you fixed a year ago. In it:voy we use also locator maps on each region-level article in addition to the country level map that you fixed. See an example in the Quickbar on the right side here. On en.voy as far I know, you don't use this kind of maps. This green map is out of our standards and furthermore is not correct, since it has the old subdivision. So you should draw another map, with the same division you used in File:Northern Götaland travel map.png based on this one and the output should be something like this map i.e. the highlighted area should be red and not green. Could you take care of it? The name should be "Northern Götaland locator map.svg" or "Map of northern Götaland.svg" (I've seen these are the two most common ways to name this kind of maps on Commons)

P.s: I've made some changes to your map, adding an (hidden) layer with italian labels e reorganizing the railways and roads in a new separate layer. If it is a problem feel free to rollback my changes. -Nastoshka (talk) 22:23, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay. I got it. I've created the map. Your changes to map are perfect. Keep it up! --Saqib (talk) 22:37, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sqaib - I restored Bibbiena since it is a real place and the user who created that article has made other good contributions. I agree that the content was unusable as it existed, but I'm worried that a speedy delete would discourage the author from making further contributions. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:00, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shoot! I guess I like using "delete" button too much thats why always eager to speedy delete stuff that are otherwise doesn't merit speedy deletion. Honestly speaking, I forget the rules. But anyways I know that is serious and I should change my attitude. Thank you for taking care of it. --Saqib (talk) 16:12, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Warning to Newbys[edit]

Here's a summary of my experience on Wikivoyage. I found Wikivoyage a few weeks ago and thought what a good idea it was. I spent some time in the sandbox and reading various guidelines encouraging me to pitch in, and not to worry about getting things wrong, and telling me about the friendly and helpful community. I then thought about what I could add that would be useful to others, taking care to follow the relevant policies. Since there were a couple of tours that I went on last year that I could thoroughly recommend (because they provided lots of interesting information that was otherwise unavailable) I added them under Carcassonne and [Albi].

I checked back later to see if my edits had registered OK. There were no messages saying thank you for your effort. No message of welcome to the community. Nothing. Not even my edits. It took me some concerted effort to figure out that they had been deleted ("reverted") by Saqib. No explanation. No suggestions. No encouragement. Nothing. So I put the edits back and ask why they had been "reverted". In response they were once again reverted by Saqib. No explanation was given other than a link to Listings#Tour_listings, the policy on Tour listings. This was a bit puzzling because my edits obviously did comply with the policy - 100% as far as I could see. Anyone who knew the two places listed and who looked at what the details of the tours involved would have seen this immediately. On talk, I therefore asked this question "Saqib, Could you please explain why you are reverting my edits, even though they comply with the stated policy, as you will have known if you had followed the link included". But Saqib was clearly too important and too busy to provide a response.

Instead, a response came from Ryan. No welcome. No offer of help. He said that there were two "issues". The first was that "guided tours are generally only considered appropriate when the destination cannot be visited without a guide.". This of course is not true. What the policy says is that Tours can be listed on Wikivoyage as long as they constitute a value-added activity. If a traveller could fulfill the substance of the tour on their own, the tour should not be listed. (my emboldening). As I kept pointing out, my edits complied fully with the stated policy at Listings#Tour_listings, (since they do constitute a value-added activity and a traveller could certainly not fulfill the substance of the tour on their own, even with all available audioguides, guidebooks, and everything else available). Ryan's second "issue", was that "the tours are being added as advertising for a tour operator, which is considered touting and is strongly discouraged...". I looked at touting and found that my edits did not count as "touting" under the policy. I was then, and am now, completely mystified how anyone could read either edit as advertising or touting.

I was so annoyed that I asked how to complain. My assumption was that Saqib and Ryan must be just kids messing about and that a responsible adult would be able to put them right. But no. There is apparently no complaints mechanism, so if a group of kids fail to understand a policy or get some wacky unwarranted idea into their heads, or take a dislike to you, or just decide to back each other up irrespective of the facts, then there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Of course, neither Saqib nor Ryan responded to my key point - that my edits were in line with stated policies. Instead of addressing the points made, Ikan Kekek now joined in and said this

"In any case, it looks to me like you may be ignoring this fundamental part of the tour policy Tours can be listed on Wikivoyage as long as they constitute a value-added activity. If a traveller could fulfill the substance of the tour on their own, the tour should not be listed.

The idea of quoting back to me the fundamental part of the policy that I had myself relied on and emboldened was little short of malign genius. Ikan Kekek then added

"That means, if individual travellers can see these Cathar-related sights without hiring you [sic], you [sic] don't get to list your [sic] tours or your [sic] company. As it further states "In practice this policy disallows listing most[...]guided tours since the substance of such tours can generally be fulfilled by an independent traveller[.]".

I don't need to belabor this, but Ikan Kekek has gone to considerable lengths to ignore the "value added" criterion and the key fact that the substance of these tours cannot be fulfilled by an independent traveller - the whole point of the policy. He is now firmly convinced that I own a tour company. I find it difficult to believe that these are genuine errors.

Normally, if three out of three separate people suggest that I'm in the wrong, then I tend to suspect that they are right. But I have looked pretty carefully at this over the last few days, and there really is no question about it. I don't believe that Saqib, Ryan or Ikan Kekek have understood the policy (which is simple enough), or visited the places concerned, or even bothered to consider what might constitute value added in this case. I might have thought this was just wilful ignorance, except that all three have all gone out of their way to ignore or misconstrue every point I have made, and have then invented a pretty zany excuse to justify their mistake - my "obvious anger" proves that they are right!

So Saqib, Ryan and Ikan Kekek, I have no idea how your minds are working or why you you might want to behave like this. Frankly, I find your behaviour baffling. I'm sure you'll be delighted to learn that I will not be troubling you or Wikivoyage ever again with eccentric ideas about basic courtesy, listing attractions, adding value, complying with policy, or with my "obvious anger" or indeed with anything else.

ErnieNode (talk) 17:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ErnieNode:: A Kenyan said "Sometimes when you get disappointment it is actually makes you stronger." So please don't get disappointed. Anyways, since you've posted the same message on multiple talk pages, I'll see how others respond. I hope Ryan and Ikan Kekek will be able to better convince you than I can do since my English is not good so there would be some language barrier. But in the mean time, please accept my apologies for not sending you welcome message and properly addressing the issue initially through talk pages. Best wishes from Pakistan! --Saqib (talk) 21:17, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

archiving VfDs[edit]

Hi Saqib! Thanks for archiving the Viazul VfD! For future reference, it would be very helpful if you could put the outcome of the deletion discussion (kept, deleted, merged) in the edit summary so that it's easy to tell what happened on a quick perusal. Alternatively, you could link the appropriate archive page in the edit summary, to make it easy to link to.

Also, please note that the archive page to use should have been the one for May, not April. =)

-- Powers (talk) 01:35, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Noted Powers. And yes, I've moved the Viazul entry to May. That was a mistake. Thank you! --Saqib (talk) 12:46, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

regarding the india wikivoyage page[edit]

Hey Saqib! Although links are already mentioned in bus area. They are again needed in the airline page as the travellers from outside India donot know that these portals serve both air and bus. It seems common sense from a local point of view but consider visiting an unknown country like Philippines, you would consider having links mentioned in both sections. Again the size of the article is too big, so travellers who donot read whole page might miss it. Regards Piyush —The preceding comment was added by 117.222.20.248 (talkcontribs)

Hi, Piyush. You forgot this part of Saqib's edit summary (in bold): "links have been mentined already for bus tickets. not required for air bookings". I've reverted your edit this time, per Wikivoyage:External links#What not to link to. Unless portals must be used, they cannot be linked. Sorry about that; I know you're trying to help, but we have these policies to avoid lots of promotional posts and links clogging up articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:40, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on my talk page[edit]

You left that shouting comment on my talk page. I did not know that Ikan Kekek was an administrator on Wikivoyage. I am still new to the community, and I am still learning. I'm glad that you let me know about him, but you said as a shout like, "Next thing you say about him you're outta here!" which I do not find pleasing. You even mocked me saying "I don't care how old you are, behave." I do appreciate what IK and you do here, but you could've told me before you and Ibaman blew up on my talk page. Penn Station banner[edit]

Saqib, why in the world did you close the discussion on File:Baltimore pennstation banner EDITED.jpg as KEEP?? Our deletion policy clearly states that if there's no consensus to keep, we delete. I cannot fathom what you were thinking. I request that you immediately revert your closure. Powers (talk) 17:08, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the comments made by IK and User:AlasdairW, it is very much clear that both are not in support of deletion of images unless the alternatives are provided. And my understanding says comments made by both parties are enough to keep the images, as of now. Are you sure we should re-open the 45 days old nomination? --Saqib (talk) 17:29, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Two people does not constitute a consensus to keep. In the absence of a consensus to keep, policy requires us to delete. If you're not comfortable deleting, you can't just close it as 'keep' unless there's a consensus for it. Powers (talk) 00:10, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that the banner was changed during the discussion is salient, but I don't remember anyone but you voting to delete the files. Are you suggesting that a single person can rule the day in a vfd thread? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:15, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am suggesting that our policy is that a file or page is deleted unless there is a consensus to keep it. That has always been the rule. Are you saying there was a consensus to keep? Powers (talk) 19:43, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Movement Wide Finance Report 2014[edit]

Dear Saqib,

I’m Alex, currently a finance fellow (i.e intern) at the Wikimedia Foundation. I worked before for Wikimedia France, planning the Hackathon Lyon 2015 mainly. I'm today contacting you because of your activity for Wikimedia Pakistan User Group.

Last year, Finance Fellows produced a financial report that included financial activity from every chapters. It was great and has been presented at the Wikimania in Mexico.

If you haven’t seen the results of the Report 2013, here they are: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Chapter-wide_Financial_Trends_Report_2013

We’re currently starting the Report 2014 and this year we also want to include user groups to improve the scope of our work. I want to tell you that I’ve tried to make the process as short and easy as possible, so that shouldn’t require a lot of your time.

The aim of such a report is global. It helps having an idea of how the money is used across the movement, it helps chapters and user groups to learn about best practice and finally it leads to more transparency through a qualitative work, which I believe is important.

Could you briefly tell me if you had any income and expenses in 2014? If you are not the person responsible for this, please tell me who is the user the most likely to know this information.

I’ll be your contact for this project this year, I’m looking forward to working with you!

Cheers, ACella (WMF) (talk) 22:57, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There have recently been a lot of changes to this article by me and several other editors. I do not think any of them were Muslims, though, so I'd like you to review it. Pashley (talk) 17:27, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib! I recreated Module:TableTools which was previously deleted by you. They were maps of proposed district boundaries we didn't go with. But why is it important to delete them? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:32, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Demoting star articles[edit]

Hi Saqib. I undid your more or less unilateral demotion of Sheki. There's a procedure to demote star articles. As you mentioned yourself, the article was apparently never actually nominated. There wasn't even a note on the talk page, except for yours, just yesterday. In such a case, you should nominate it properly after all, and not simply plunge ahead and demote on your own. I've done so now, see Wikivoyage:Star_nominations#Sheki. Feel free to give your opinion there. JuliasTravels (talk) 20:09, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being too hasty. --Saqib (talk) 20:21, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Amusement parks[edit]

Thank you very much for taking charge of moving those listings! It's a big job, and no-one else was willing to do it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:18, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. Due to my lack of local knowledge, it takes a lot of time to move those listings to relevant pages, but anyhow I have decided to do it. Hopefully will be able to finish it and close the VfD in next few couple of days. --Saqib (talk) 08:10, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for deletion[edit]

Hi, an answer to this is that the same user with many IP's is just writing nonsense on many Wikimedia projects, the same was also added here, here and here. And their edits on Meta-Wiki are deleted as well. But if you don't mind deleting nonsense on this project it's fine for me. Stryn (talk) 11:09, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for details. it has been deleted. --Saqib (talk) 11:24, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ağstafa and Kura-Araks Lowland deletion[edit]

Hi there. Why would we let Ağstafa and Kura-Araks Lowland lying around instead of deleting them. There was no real update for 2 years and these articles are not going to be filled in the foreseeable future, considering the general inactivity of the Azerbaijan articles. Also it leaves a bad impression with the readers, because often articles are referenced by default (.e.g. using ...) by editors but without checking the content of the destinations.

Or you just want me to bring up that topic with others to discuss it, or shall I redirect? Cheers, Ceever (talk) 11:47, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of guides on real places is not a good option in my opinion. You should either nominate them for deletion or simply redirect them. --Saqib (talk) 11:50, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

prevent division, its where you come from[edit]

Hi Saqib,

If I ask you, "what your name is?", and I do ask you politely, you are not going to tell me your name is "subname" are you?! Your name has a name to it and its called Saqib! Just the same way you must take pride in what your region is called too, its given a name; its where you come from, not me! Because I'm a western man from a western nation! But I do praise unity by being a fair, eradicating past colonial division even with words here on wikivoyage, and this is something that myself and many western people are not proud of coming from the west regarding past western colonial wrath. —The preceding comment was added by Neil Patters (talkcontribs)

Singapore maps[edit]

Hi Saqib,

There was a discussion on Talk:Singapore/Riverside#.22The_static_map_is_much_clearer_than_the_dynamic_map.2C_so_why_is_the_dynamic_map_being_used.3F.22 about maps and you said you could help.

I was taking a closer look at File:Singapore.svg and there is actually more there saved in different layers than I thought there is and updating most of the maps should be not as hard as I thought. For most of the districts, it is just going to be a question of drawing in some extra train lines, changing the areas and renumbering the listings, that should be well within what I'm able to do.

The real problem is that some of the areas have changed a lot since this was created in 2012 or are off the limits to the map. Especially this: Singapore/Marina_Bay. (It's on the southeastern corner of the big map). As you can see, somebody added some extra roads and buildings but as there's no SVG available, I'll have to readd those to the above SVG to then crop the map from there. I might have to do the same for some other outlying areas, as the regions have been recently changed a bit, so it would be a question of adding a couple roads, buildings and other features on the edges of the map.

I'm okay with doing that as I know the area quite well, but I'm not quite sure on how to go about it. How would you recommend going about this? Importing some street map as graphics into the SVG and then tracing from there? Or exporting them from OSM?

I would appreciate if you can give me some inputs on how to go about this!

@Drat70: Thank you for your message. If you know the area well and have experience with operating Inkscape or any other vector graphics editor, I suggest you to import OSM maps into the editor and trace the map as you like. --Saqib (talk) 08:39, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The sentence you wrote there doesn't make much sense. I tried to fix it, but I am not sure it is right. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:45, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No problem Yann bhai! --Saqib (talk) 10:18, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Islam Article[edit]

Hey there. I made some edits to the Islam article based on some things I have been hearing from Muslim debaters (among them, Mehdi Hasan). However, as I am not a Muslim myself, I was wondering if you could check the article to make sure that I am not mistaken about anything. Thanks. The dog2 (talk) 00:12, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@The dog2: I see no problem. --Saqib (talk) 04:25, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking. I want to make sure that everything on the religion pages is an accurate representation of the religion, and not some sensationalised stuff that is often portrayed in the media. Have a great day. The dog2 (talk) 06:24, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Any comment?[edit]

Why was [this page https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Thari_Mirwah&oldid=2816417] redirected without merging of content. Need to ask as the location has been created again as Tharri which is causing problems with places of similar names. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:22, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nicaragua map[edit]

Thanks for your work on the Nicaragua map. A few requests: Please add to the Nicaragua map the following cities: San Carlos, Peñas Blancas, Guasaule, San Benito, Las Manos. These are the border towns that would be referred to in the article and it would be useful to people to understand which is which. (They are listed in order). The site "El Castillo" should also be added, as it is a major destination and there is space in the map to label it. In addition, the Carribean Region should be spelled "Caribbean Region". If you need help determining where each should be, I can help. Eni2dad (talk) 13:02, 10 November 2018 (UTC) Enidad2[reply]

Removal of admin privileges[edit]

Swept in from the pub

I am voluntarily relinquishing my administrator privileges. I haven't been active lately and don't presently have need for admin tools. Maybe I'll request them back if I return one day. --Saqib (talk) 07:40, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll take care of that. Any time you want them back, just let me know. There would be no need for a new nomination to reinstate you.
All the best,
